Make visiting a body force its explore contract to show, rather than preventing it

Recommended Posts

Those contracts that send you to a body to do a thorough examination are really a good source of income. But there are some problems that can make it almost impossible to get the contracts. When the triggers for making the contract show up are unclear, unintuitive, and easy to break, you have a situation in which players who don't know what they're doing will try going to a body they haven't been to, hoping to make some great discovery. The last thing you want to do is make that discovery be that they jinxed their contracts and prevented themselves from getting the explore for the place.

I would go further and suggest to auto-accept any "campaign" contracts when you meet a part goal of them (especially for the altitude contracts at the beginning ;)). As you cannot fail them, it is only money/rep wasted when you do not get the contracts. Also you could make the campaign contracts so that they do not count towards the maximum number of active contracts.

Personally, I think that these shouldn't be contracts at all, but instead a separate milestones system. You don't need to accept them, they don't take up space in your contract slots, and they're automatically rewarded when you fill the conditions for them.

Yeah, this should be true of all the "deadline: never" contracts.

I agree with the above but would also add "plant a flag on_" and "return a kerbal from_" to the objectives of each of the milestone contracts. That way manned return missions to each body is how you "complete" the game. The flag planting is to reward the player for at least getting a kerbal there even if their return fails. It could be switched to take surface sample just as well, I think either could work.

Is there one of these types of contracts for the sun/ escaping kerbin's SOI? If not there probably should be.
