[WIP] 0.3x RSS config / Kerbol Visual Pack - Discontinued/PAUSED

Hey again! This is my second development thread and am making a new one for a couple of different projects to avoid clogging up the one for my Interstellar visual changes.

In this thread, I'll be detailing changes and plans for a realistic EVE pack that is similar in style and quality to RVE with a few changes and a 0.3125 scale RSS config which is roughly the same size as GregroxMun's 3.2x stock Kerbin.

0.3x RSS Config [v0.1] - Discontinued.

All of the bodies and orbits of the Real Solar System pack have been rescaled to roughly 0.3x (0.3125 to be exact) of the original size. This presents some interesting new challenges compared to stock size, but is much more inviting for less experienced players compared to a full scale system. It takes roughly 5-5.7km/s to get to LEO (not 100% tested) and needs the addition of FAR or NEAR to be playable. I will be releasing a download very soon, I just have to test out some things a bit more and fix some atmospheric issues. Some in-game pictures and comparisons of the major bodies:

I did some tweaking and testing this morning, and have now 'deemed' it playable. There are still some height issues on several of the moons, and some visual issues with atmospheres (RSS, not me) so beware.

Download

gitHub - Feel free to help out! (Just give me a notice first! :))

License: CC-BY-NC-SA in compliance with the license in Real Solar System OP and readme.

Thanks to NathanKell for helping me out with this and providing the Real Solar System Mod.

Also thanks to pingopete for helping me out with some atmosphere issues.

Install instructions:

  1. First, install Real Solar System as instructed on the RSS page. Choose the desired textures. etc
  2. Download and place the files for the 0.3x into your gamedata folder.
  3. Install recommended mods as desired.
  4. Have fun!

Recommended Mods:

Some notes on this version:

  • Career mode (probably) won't work. I wouldn't try it if I was you.
  • Don't trust the atmosphere heights listed in the info tabs. Earth ends at 118km.
  • The other planets have not been tested. Only Earth and the Moon.
  • Atmospheres are black. Some moons are spikey-er than they should be.

This is discontinued because:

I can't get my head around some atmosphere issues that are present in the game. Not just the physical atmospheres but the cosmetics as well. It's mostly complete, though. If you want to take a stab at fixing it, the GitHub is there.

Kerbol Visual Enhancements - Paused

I have done quite a bit of tweaking and additions to some current EVE textures, as well as created entire new ones for the sake of visual realism in the game. Visual realism, I say? Every visual aspect of the game will be as realistic as possible, whether it looks good or not. Several factors influence my decisions as to designs and visuals (why things look like they do), such as element density, rarity etc and multiple real life anomalies. Right now, I am not working on this as the EVE overhaul is very buggy and some of the textures I have to work with are very tedious in the editing process. I'm looking for a partner for this project that has skills in either config editing, coding or texturing. School is also taking a fair chunk of my time (both school & homework) so my time is greatly reduced.

I do, however, plan to return to this as I think the idea is solid and I believe I have the skills to achieve it.

What have I done so far?

  • Reworked scaled space visuals. - Kerbin now has blue-r shores and much whiter mountains. A couple of examples can be seen below.
  • I have several volumetric textures and detail textures so clouds from the surface and orbit look as beautiful as possible.
  • Ven's stock Part Revamp is 'included'* for better looking stock parts.

*No donwload yet, but he said I could include it.

What do some things look like? Take a look!

*In the second album, planets are darker than they should be. A bug on the EVE side of things, not my problem.

*The pictures in the second album are outdated. I thought I'd include them, though, as they represent what the final colours may look like.

I'm now going off of this as a page of potential 'concept art'. I'm trying to create visuals similar to the looks of some of the bodies in game (Kerbin, Laythe, Kerbol for now).

One thing: I believe you mean 3.125x, not 0.3125x which would be very small. Otherwise looks nice.

Nope, I do mean 0.3125x. It's not referring to the Kerbin system, though, so it is roughly 3.2x larger than the stock system but 0.3x the Real Solar System size. If that makes sense.

Ohhhh, right. That makes more sense, then.

So it's like Jumbo32 for Real Solar System I can't read apparently. It says so in the OP. *glares at OP for stealing idea* :P

But seriously, if you need any help with some of the rescaling, just look at the Jumbo32 config. I noticed the atmospheres were kind of off.

EDIT: I just remembered I was already contacted by the OP about this. Disregard all comments previously made about industrial espionage.

Yeah! I did look at it but I'm afraid it wasn't much help. One of the main things I like about RSS compared to stock is the atmosphere heights, as it adds more of a challenge. So, this has a much higher atmo height than jumbo 32, which is desired. But, I think I'm going to have to put in a pressure curve as the legacy atmosphere is doing my head in. I still need to do the power curve as well. Did you alter it much?

Test 1 of a hurricane texture. Something I want KVRP to have is the most realistic storm clouds out of all of the packs. Right now it is just an 8k texture that looks a little dodgy from LKO, but I'll set up a detail layer in the future so it will be of the same (and hopefully better) quality of the other packs. Please only pay attention to the cloud and not the atmo, EVE is having issues right now :(

I will probably release the mod with just 8k textures, as detail layers can take quite a bit of time so I'll leave that until later. I've almost finished the Cumulonimbus cloud layer, just need to arrange the clouds better.
