Mini stock bearing assembly and sentry gun turret example craft.

Well, since the turret is unbalanced I had to add a bunch of reaction wheels to it, but it works quite well. You just have to be careful with rotation since it tends to pop out of the bearing somehow. I haven't even modified the bearing, I just made it a subassembly.

KATEC's MOD loves the auto gyro feature on the cannon. It will prove useful for sinking r̶e̶f̶u̶g̶e̶e̶ ̶v̶e̶s̶s̶e̶l̶s̶ enemy warships.

Ah, I see you've circumvented the collider issues of the smaller wheels by using a lot of them. I was so upset I couldn't build turbines with small wheels back then ... my helicopters were too heavy to be really practical that way.

Edit, I tried building a turbine with it but I'm afraid it won't work, unless there are too bearings with the turbine blades in between.

Here's a picture of my old turbine experiments.

Good effort man. For choppers the only thing that really works are the landing gears, give them a go!

Hey man. That's a decent tank you made there. The wheels look a little off but a good effort! And of course I'm very happy you used my bearing, thanks man.

:)MJ

:D Yeah, the bearing works very well with a small turret (don't think any other bearing would have fit) The real problem however is the constant breakage of the lower bogeys when I try to turn at high speeds :/

I can give you the craft file if you want to fiddle with it.

I'm not sure what I could do to help mate.. What are bogeys?

you know those little wheel things at the bottom of the tank? I have the tank down now, but I just need to get some way of preventing them from breaking off suddenly and randomly

You need to make sure they don't take any weight. Place landing gear underneath or some other wheels to take the weight off the small rover wheels.

Ahhh, ok. Makes sense. But I still want the illusion of suspension from the bogeys. Anyways here is the finished (maybe) product:

Completely modified the chassis but it looks much better.

I have been playing around with your bearing design, Majorjim. I must say, it is quite robust even as is. I did do some tweaking of the design a bit to modify it for use as a rotor-craft bearing. Swapped out the wheels you've used for landing gear so that the bearing can handle the much higher rotational stresses of being spun at speed by jet engines. I also added standard nosecones to the inside of the bearing so I can increase its lateral hold strength. It holds up quite well even using wheels only at the 4 corners. No clue yet how much stress it'll be able to handle with an 8 point gear setup, yet. Very good design you have! I had been struggling to make a bearing that can handle the loads of a high speed spinning rotor for some time.

As for the Rotor-craft... Well, it's ugly looking, even for being just a test bed. I also still have a LOT to learn about Kerbaling together a rotor-craft for the current design is barely flyable... There is something I am missing when it comes to making it stable and fully controllable.

But as for the bearing. This is a closeup of one of the modified bearing sets. You can see where I added the nosecone to allow the wheels to hold it better at high speeds. This setup holds up to having the two engines running at 75% thrust, any faster and the rotors fly apart, even with the reinforcing struts.

Thats great man! Keep tinkering and you will perfect it.
