Why do you play KSP?

I play KSP because it combines a space semi-simulator with building options so impressive that very few people's craft really end up looking alike with an utterly freeform sandbox-game experience that relies on the player to decide what his or her big goals are and what to do/where to go next. It is, wrinkles aside, one of the best games I've ever played for PC, and my first game was 'Police Quest' somewhere in the early 1990s.

For the main reason I play any game, for the fun. It doesn't have to be overly realistic I play enough of a realistic game called IRL everyday without a choice, and trust me it is not all that fun with all of its micro managing and rules (don't get me started on the permadeath and only one character thing). For me it is an escape from the ever day much like games were when I was young, no real end game to them just new challenges. I think of it like going to a movie, you go for enjoyment of the experience.

I'm a child of the Space Race, and grew up a NASA brat to boot. Saw all the Apollo launches (Skylab included) and several Gemini on-site. Ended up working for NASA for several years right out of university. Space is in my blood. KSP gives me the opportunity to test my knowledge, explore designs and missions that never came to pass, and do things my own way. I get to be Wernher von Braun with an astronaut corp of little green Oompa Loompas. What's not to love?

KSP is one of the most rewarding games I have ever played.

Playing ironman mode and having a mission come to fruition. The planning, the engineering, the execution. Add the extra difficulty of life support and RemoteTech, and KSP creates a sense of accomplishment that is higher than any other game I've played.

I play it.. well.. because..

I felt that this game expands the thoughts, creativity and ingenuity of a person while giving him goals to work on. I felt that it was a challenge, a challenge in your own way. It kept me building, engineering, with my imagination as my only limit. And It doesn't end there. Before encountering this, I thought that orbit was simply making it to 28,000 kph. But with this, I understood. It was burning prograde, retrograde, at the apoapsis, periapsis, and more. It's games like these that the world is lacking, and I felt was rare. And the developers are very concerned and supportive about the community's opinions, and developed a relationship with them. i can't believe this game isn't so known.

I mainly play KSP for its educational aspects. On the one hand the game is a good training for basic physics knowledge, a skill that in my case is slowly getting rusty, and on the other hand, by using the realism overhaul mods, KSP allows me to learn a lot about real spaceflight and some of the many challenges encountered by people working in that field. Of course a big portion of the fun lies in overcoming these challenges.

I play KSP because I love the idea of space flight. The fact that we can send something or someone too a different planet boggles my mind. But when I get to fly my own spacecraft, well it gets even better. We can do whatever we want even if it isn't possible, like sending a manned mission to land on Venus (if you haven't seen the video of that yet you need to look it up). But the biggest reason I play it is because I can either play it as a realistic space simulator where I try to roleplay as an actual space agency. Or I can play as ridiculous and silly as I want to.

The simple answer is because I enjoy it. As with most simple answers, that doesn't actually tell you anything, but it does make for a spiffy and memorable quote.

The complex answer is because it hits so many chords with how I like to entertain myself. It doesn't abuse the randomizer to introduce artificial difficulty. All challenge comes down to the player's decisions within the consistent framework of rules the game sets out for them, and the player gets meaningful feedback from their choices as well. There are elements of resource management, strategic planning, engineering, project management, and experimentation, all of which I find appealing. At a higher level, the game involves both air and space flight, which are fascinating subjects to me. It allows me to explore other worlds (artificial though they may be) and work within different gravitational contexts while doing so. Higher still, it lets me feel like I've actually accomplished something for all my hard work when a mission comes to a successful close, and like I've learned something even when my plans come undone.

Choose your answer from the above two. Both are correct, but one is more correct than the other.

I play KSP for it being one of the most awesome space games available...

And for all the creativity it allows me to be put into actual forms...

And for the serenity and beauty it offers...

And for allowing me to make my childhood dreams come true...

And for... oh come on, you know all of the story...

So many reasons.

For Starters, its that kind of a game that makes u learn new, interesting things in a sence of playing not working on it.

I reckon u can play it for 100 hours and i doesnt get boring.

U get a good picture of how hard it was to get to moon as a real person. - I think i have a way better understanding of NASA and the moon landing. Biggest respect ever

I play KSP because I have always had an interest in space. Always. I heard about it from a friend a while before I got it, so I looked it up when I was bored. Here I am a little more than a year later. An amateur rocket scientist, astronomer, and mission planner. I choose to play KSP, not because it is easy. But because it is challenging. And fun. And cool. And the best game for a would be rocket scientist ever.
