Squadcast Summary (2015-02-07) - The 'Not Very Interesting' Edition

I feel like they're finally taking their game seriously... Can we get thrust and g0 corrected?

Also really annoying that Reddit, Twitter, and SA are now the "official" source of information about KSP. So I need four accounts and ~tenbux~ to get all the news without relying on other people, fantastic.

I actually kind of like the scavenger hunt aspect, personally. It makes finding the information more fun. I suppose I might have a different perspective if I didn't have an SA account, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What I want to know is how this information sat for 3 days on SA without ANYBODY mentioning it.

I still hope that someday, Squad will be able to host their own, official site, where they can post all sorts of information and communicate with their community.

Some day this may be a reality. Until then, we just have to do our best to gather all the disparate information together here on these unofficial forums.

(off-hand, also wondering if the "Tippis" in your picture there is the legendary "Tippia" from the EVE-O forums...) Edited by regex

[are] You gonna remove the second link from your signature when 1.0 comes out, assuming Squad somehow doesn't screw it up?

Is this like, really important to you? If so, why?

Yes please! I'm hoping their coy remarks about fixing 'longstanding issues' indicate that they are going to hit those things.

(I'm expecting that the remarks are just lies and that they're actually removing specific impulse from the game entirely, of course - hope for the best, expect the worst 'n' all)

Agreed.

However, I'd like to thank all the people who bring tidbits of information forward, like GusTurbo, and those who provide summaries for Squadcasts, like ObsessedWithKSP.

Unless they've said otherwise, I don't think they intentionally put in flaps and spoilers code. Rather, flaps and spoilers are something you would expect to work from realistic aero, because they work in real life (that's probably the main advantage of realistic physics, after all: it means that applying concepts from real-world engineering works even if the devs hadn't explicitly thought of and designed that concept).

Yeah but it is a bit disappointing they aren't going to put native support for it. I was hoping to see "Flaps" and "Spoilers" become basic action groups instead of custom ones. At the very least, simply add tweakable functionality like FAR. It's really kind of silly to add new aerodynamics and not include these since most larger real-world planes use them.

Yes please! Stock actually needs that right now even. Not being able to set roll rate can cause some real problems on a 1.25m rocket when you try to roll slightly using tailfins due to the really low rolling inertia from the long narrow shape...

More like zero rolling inertia since parts are treated as mass points and they all are at zero distance from the center.

Oh right, good point! Even worse... I guess the only inertia would then be from .. the tailfins themselves?

Er wait.. wouldn't that mean that say an RCS-based capsule (as the quads are massless; or for that matter, one just using it's internal wheels) rolling would have infinite acceleration? O.o Is there some sort of hardcoded safety that protects against that?
