how to complete mission "Test RT-5"

Recommended Posts

Hi.

The mission titled: Test RT-5 "Flea" Solid Fuel Booster in flight over Kerbin.

Required conditions are:

1. Test RT-5 "Flea" Solid Fuel Booster
2. kerbin
3. flying
4. Alt: 30000 to 34000
5. Spd: 450.0m/s to 530.0m/s

I built a rocket with three RT-5 engine cascaded and fulfilled 2. to 5. above

requirements except for 1.

How can I complete this mission?

What does "Test RT-5" mean? I thought just igniting the engine fulfill it.

Thanks,

aki

There should be a condition that the contract content "run in stage sequence".
There are two types of test missions, one that operates in the stage sequence and the other that tests with the parts menu.

Note: You can totally create a new stage in-flight, with a spent booster in it, and hit the spacebar to "ignite" that empty booster and test it.

I was just going to comment "don't stage prematurely", when I saw this gem. Thanks for the heads up, 5th!

You need to meet all conditions simultaneously.  In your case activate a RT-5 engine while your altitude is between 30-34km AND your speed is between 450-530m/s

What matters is when you ignite the engine (either from context menu ou staging).  Suppose you activate it at 29.800m and 445m/s, keeping it running until it climbs to 30km and speed up to 450 don't complete the contract.  OTOH activating at 31km and 470m/s work even if you don't have fuel to feed the engine.

Also notice that the game pick random requeriment for the test contracts which may result in contracts being inconvenience (test a Kickback in orbit above 150km) or downright difficult (test a Kickback bellow 3km and speed between 1120-1230m/s) make sure a contract is worth the trouble before accepting.

Note that you can drain all fuel from the Flea.

Cant provide a Pic at moment but try this simple design:

MK1 pod + parachute

decoupler

Flea without Fuel

-no decoupler  -

Tanks + Swivel to take off and reach the designated altitude and speed.

Staging:

Swivel

Flea

decoupler

parachute

On the launch pad rightclick on the contract symbol so its displayed all time.

Launch, observe the contract and when all conditions are marked green press spacebar.

You may add more chutes and remove the decoupler to recover all of the vessel.
