  1. Nice little GP40 there. I always liked the old Chessie paint jobs (and not because of the stupid cat). The black, orange, yellow scheme always looked good to me for some reason. Made the locos pop and stand out when mixed into a consist of other roads locos.
  2. I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. But it seems to me that the best thing for you to do is to get a lawyer and start protecting yourself. Take Two certainly isn't going to do that for you. If you are that concerned about your story, and/or have even the slightest idea about publishing it at any point in the future, it would be worth it to get a lawyer now to legally establish your copyright to all your existing works as well as try to negotiate a license with T2 for use of their IP in your story. At the very least, have your lawyer contact their lawyers for clarification on your concerns. Remember, any communication with them is going to go through their lawyers who have a vested interest in making things as one sided in Take Two's favor as they can get away with. If you don't know how to deal with that, you're going to get rolled.
  3. Get a Dremel. Best investment a hobbyist can make. Also, get the plug-in type vs a battery powered one. The batteries just dont last long enough IMO.
  4. My tables are in my basement, which has a poured concrete floor. I still have to shim the legs of my tables because the floor is uneven, so don't sweat things like that. As long as it is sturdy and stable, its good. In the end, nobody is going to care what your table looks like; they're going to be more interested in what you're running on top of it.
  5. I have absolutely no evidence to base this on, just my own speculation and personal paranoia and mistrust of corporations, but my guess is this change is being done in advance of the 1.4 update and Making History expansion because there are things coming that required a change to the TOS. What kind of things? Speculating again, I'd say they've laid the groundwork for some form of DRM or microtransactions. Why do I think this? Because I read both the new TOS and the new privacy policy, and they both read like the standard, boilerplate, corporate BS ala: "You agree to let us data mine the crap out of you and do whatever we want with the game and your personal information, and you also agree to get in return only that which we choose to give you with no recourse whatsoever on your part. We own you now. So dance, Rummy." ETA: These policies read no different to me than the ones they have in place for other games like GTA, etc. So, I don't mean to imply that this is something nefarious and unique to KSP. Its just sad to me to see KSP become another cog in the corporate machine. I love this game and I also felt a lot better about it when it was indie.
  6. Some more advice: When attaching your plywood deck to the frame, most people's first inclination is to zip down the four corners of the deck to the frame. And then they get irritated when the plywood is bowed in the middle or there is overhang on one side, etc. See, there is no such thing as a straight board; all boards have warp in them, especially if you are using a soft wood like pine and/or you live in an area where the humidity changes a lot. Even if you used a builder's square to ensure you had right angles in your frame, it will still be crooked. Better to start attaching the decking to the frame at one end and work your way down along both sides. That way you can use a rubber/plastic mallet to whack everything into the proper alignment as you go (or just kick it with your foot). Thats what I did, and my tables always turned out perfect when I was done. A nice flat and level tabletop with no overhang on any edge.
  7. Heres my 2 cents of advice on building train tables: 1) use screws not nails for assembly. 2) attach the legs to the table frame with carriage bolts. Use washers on both sides and countersink the bolt heads flush with the frame. I used 2x6 pine boards for the frames and legs and 5/8 inch thick plywood (not OSB). My tables weigh a ton but you could hit them with a real train and they’d probably survive it (not really, but you get the point).
  8. Pretty much exactly same circumstances and timeframe. A guy at work mentioned the game and I checked it out. Been playing ever since with the occasional hiatus of a month or three. I remember back then it secemed like they were releasing a new version every month. Kept the game fresh and exciting to see what new thing(s) were going to be added.
  9. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_home_video_game_consoles 1st gen were consoles like Pong and Magnavox Odyssey 2nd gen includes Atari 2600, Magnavox Odyssey2, ColecoVision, and Intellivision
  10. My profile picture was taken just after I foiled the plans of two would-be robbers inside a strip club with help from my buddies Rosewood and Taggert.
  11. If you are a railfan, check out this link: http://modeltrainjournal.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15463 It is a thread started about 4 years ago by a guy named Lucas who railfans mostly in the Detroit area. The thread is currently 25 pages long and still being updated today. It is full of a lot of great pics and information about the various railroad operations in that whole area. He focuses on metro Detroit, but also heads out to Ohio and other parts of Michigan as well.
  12. O is incredibly expensive and a space hog, so a lot of people just go HO. I prefer O. I grew up in the midwest (hence the CN stuff) and currently live on the east coast, so NS and occasionally CSX is pretty much all I see here. There is a small yard not too far from my house, but it doesn't get a whole lot of traffic. Maybe one consist a week. But its cool to drive by and catch one coming through and getting broken up and re-classified for local delivery.
  13. O gauge model railroader here. Mostly Lionel stuff from early 2000’s and before (prior to all the TMCC crap). My current locomotive roster consists of: 1) A pair of Norfolk Southern C40-8 (aka Dash 8). 2) Norfolk Southern SD60MAC 3) CSX SD60MAC 4) Canadian National C44-9W (aka Dash 9) 5) Canadian National (with GTW road designation) GP38-2 6) Boston and Maine NW2 switcher The NS Dash 8s have a cool easter egg: the engineer figure is mounted facing long hood forward, a homage to NS who was the last Class 1 railroad to regularly run their locos long hood forward. Everyone who catches that always asks “why is the driver backwards?” I have 20-30 cars of all types (boxcars, tankers, gondolas and flatbeds). A couple of them belonged to my father and his brothers when they were kids. My layout is four 8x4 plywood tables in a U shape in my basement. It sounds big, but really isnt because O scale is a massive space hog (I run Gargraves track with O-54 curves, and use Ross switches). Powering my layout is a 50s era Lionel ZW transformer along with a 1044 for the switches and accessories. One of these days, I’ll get the wife to clean out the basement and I’ll get back to running my stuff more often than I currently do.
  14. Sounds to me like the problem is less with docking and more with rendezvous. 5km separation is an eternity IMO. You should be able to get an intercept down to 500 METERS (not km) before trying to dock.
  15. Jeebus. I just eyeball it. You guys actually use protractors against your monitors?
  16. I thought it sucked. Too campy, and too cheesy, among other issues. I’m in my early 40’s and grew up with Star Wars. This movie made me finally realize that i’ve probably outgrown Star Wars if crap like this is what we’re going to get from now on. Thats fine if you liked it, but I was very disappointed, and glad I saw it for free and didnt pay for it. 1 star out of 4. Do not want.
  17. Sadly, this seems to be the direction that just about every major publisher is headed. Both EA and Ubisoft have made similar statements as to the future directions of their games. In another 20 years or so, we'll watch videos on whatever passes for YouTube then about the great video game crash of the late 2010's/early 2020s just like we can currently watch stuff about what happened with video games in the early 80s. That's the direction we're headed. People are quickly going to get tired of being constantly nickel and dimed for games and its going to kill the industry. And it may be a permanent death this time. Want a different EVA suit for your Kerbal? Pony up a buck. How about flags, decals, or stickers for the crafts you build? Buy a 5 pack for 5 bucks or a 10 pack for 9 bucks (and get a discount!). There's lots of ways to insert microtransactions into KSP. Heck, Valve has made millions selling hats to TF2 players for their in game characters. Hats!
  18. Yes, many times. Not necessarily because I underdesign my ships, but more so because I try to do more with them than I originally planned to do. For example, in my stock career game, my fifth mission is a manned landing on the Mun with a single Kerbal in a ship that should be able to land and then launch from the Mun to return to Kerbin. Last time I did this mission, I spotted an arch on my way down to the Mun surface and decided to change my landing site to land near it. This cost me enough delta-v that i barely had enough left to get back into Mun orbit and do my escape burn. I ended up with a periapsis above Kerbin at about 100k and needed to get out and push to lower that 50k or so into Kerbin's atmosphere to capture and reenter. It all worked out, and Jeb was safely recovered. FYI, for those of you who might not know this, you can warp time to 4X while doing an EVA push, which makes it go a lot faster. This is especially helpful if you need to do a lot of pushing and not just a short burst.
  19. This wams the cockles of my heart as well. That said, none of us outside of Squad know the details of the agreement between them and T2. My understanding was that the Kerbal IP was sold to T2, not necessarily the game, so T2 could make all kinds of other Kerbal related stuff (including games), but the current game remained firmly in the hands of Squad. Even if I'm wrong about this, we still don't know if there were special agreements made in the contract between the parties that guaranteed development of the game through a certain point. Game updates aren't decided on a whim; nobody woke up this morning and said "lets update the game to 1.4!" These things are planned well ahead of time, and for all we know, Squad could have had the 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 updates already planned before the sale and made assurances that these would be done before any hard stop to the game is made. I may not always agree with the decisions Squad has made with regards to the development of this game, but I can't say that they've done a bad job or haven't lived up to their word. Yes, there are still features that were promised many years ago that probably won't ever be implemented, but I'm willing to give a pass on that stuff since the core gameplay has been solid and continues to improve with every release. Squad has been very good stewards of this game since its inception and allowed the developers a lot of leeway to create the game we have today. Lets have a little faith in them to keep up the good work.
  20. Given the Internet's latest obsession with naming things like this, I hereby submit: Rockety McRocketface https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/22/world/europe/boaty-mcboatface-what-you-get-when-you-let-the-internet-decide.html http://theweek.com/speedreads/732102/swedish-public-votes-name-new-train-trainy-mctrainface-surprising-no
  21. I'm soon to be 42. I've always loved space travel and also grew up in the "golden age" of video games, starting with arcade machines and Atari 2600's, progressing through the C64 and NES eras, then into PC gaming (Doom, XWing, Tie Fighter, Wing Commander, Privateer, Fallout, etc), and right on through to today's console and PC generations. Video games, especially Sci-Fi and space based games have always been my favorites, regardless of genre (FPS, RTS, Flight Sim, etc). KSP lets me play out many of my fantasies of going to space and doing stuff there. I know there is a certain segment of this community that dumps on KSP for "not being realistic enough", but it hits the sweet spot for me and I love the game. Yeah, I get bored with it every once in a while, but I just take a break and come back to it refreshed and ready to build, launch, and explore!
  22. SAS itself is most likely the culprit. In low gravity environments, SAS will try to hold the last orientation. Best thing would be to turn off SAS as soon as you touch down, let gravity settle you down, and then turn SAS back on once you're stable if you need it.
  23. Oh sweet Jeebus.....lets not re-open that can of dead horse. Please.
  24. I never put that together, but now that you've brought it up, it's going to bother me too. Lol. I always remember that Bob is the scientist because my boss is named Bob, and he has graduate degrees in sciency things.
  25. So, from the pre-release changelog, I see this gem: Default throttle setting to 0% Now, I've been around long enough to remember when this was the original setting. In one of the releases, Squad changed it to 50% with the reasoning that too many noobs were too stupid or lazy to figure out the controls before playing and were getting upset that they'd hit the space bar to launch and nothing happened. This change to 50% setting by default was met in these very forums with much weeping, gnashing of teeth, and butthurt. And the response to all the outrage was essentially "you'll get over it." I'm curious why the change back to the original setting now?
