  1. Xbone makes sense since it is our will soon be running Win10 so I imagine it takes very little to port it over. It probably explains why they have decided to upgrade to Unity 5 since the consoles are so underpowered and dependent on threaded applications. It's possible the consoles requirements are resulting in a better KSP for the PC.
  2. Everyone knows the game was no where near ready when they launched. They said they had to release for undisclosed reasons, I assume major investors wanted a cash injection. You should just read the millions of posts about it rather than going on about it again. You're really late to the 'it's not ready' table. You just need to post in the problems forum without the whining at this point. I would suggest just playing as stock as you can with keyboard and mouse. There are some mods you just need like Kerbal Engineer and Kerbal Alarm Clock. The game will still crash but not as frequently. The devs aren't going to spend any time fixing this build with the Unity 5 build looming.
  3. I wasn't actually posting on here for tech support with Linux, I was just sharing my experience so people know it's just all roses on the Linux bandwagon. I do appreciate people making suggestions and trying to help however. I didn't pay for a copy of Linux but they do ask for donations and more users means more donations. Also if they get enough traffic on their site some banner ads would bring in some revenue as well. I haven't tried VESA modes. I started to look at them but honestly I just got tired of fiddling with it. I also wonder if my BIOS setting are correct for it. I have fast boot etc disabled but there is mention of other options which I have on or selected for my Windows install that might be a problem. I'll take another look at it some time because as it stands I just can't play KSP due to the frequency of of memory leak crashes in 32 bit. 16GB RAM would take a whole lot longer to fill with a memory leak that the 3.7GB I'm currently able to use.
  4. I think I would of caved and gone 12 parts. 3 legs would of been well worth it to save the hassle of landing on that delicate engine. An impressive venture though.
  5. Yeah I have done this. I was able to get it too boot with software rendering mode but never using the GPU hardware. Did this also, though I read it as add nomodeset after quiet spash. Did both of these things. Also making the OS more user friendly and attracting more users is precisely what Linux distros are trying to achieve. More users means more money coming in and more development and support their OS will receive. The reason Nvidia and AMD don't bother as much as we might like with Linux is because only 1.5% of PC users are running Linux. That's a tiny percentage for them to spend much money and time with. Hopefully SteamOS will see a large influx of users and Linux will get some much needed love and support. It's hard to believe but I didn't sit around for 4 days just pressing the power button and praying. I tried everything I could find on the forums and tried a half dozen different distros. All the same issue. I'll double check the IGPU is disabled. It normally is but I do occasionally reset the BIOS and forget various settings.
  6. Well I have spent all my spare time for the last 4 days or so trying to get a linux distro to work with a GTX 970 and how now given up. Black screen on boot no matter what I do. If linux every hopes to become more main stream they really have to sort out this stupid nouveau driver issue. Both times I've tried to use Linux I've spent days fighting with it. First time I had a win this time I failed.
  7. Can't say I have had any problems with heating at all. I was wondering if it's even working. 3000m/sec aim for Peri of about 25-30km lands every time unless I mess up something like not deploying chutes or attempt a powered landing and botch it.
  8. I can copy paste too. However, the name 'aluminium' was adopted to conform with the -ium names of most other elements. In 1925, the American Chemical Society decided to go back to the original aluminum, so the United States uses a different name from most other countries.
  9. Are you talking about aluminium? I only ask because if your going to critique someone on how they pronounce a word you should probably understand how it is first spelt. It's true Yanks mispronounce aluminium as aluminum but that doesn't mean that is how it's spelt or properly pronounced. Just saying.
  10. Remote tech solves that with a computer to program in burns and commands whilst out of comms range.
  11. It needs to be customisable so it can work like remote tech or dumbed down like they are mentioning. In my eyes it makes no sense to have the tracking station have complete range at level 3. Why would anyone bother with an elaborate relay setup when for less money you can just cover the entire solar system. Plus without life support, satellites with limitations placed on them make no sense anyway. You can just put a kerball'd craft up instead and avoid the hastle of signals. Their adding the core mechanic but with none of the intricacies that make it worth while.
  12. I had a Mun lander suffer a Kraken attack resulting in it's engine going missing, it slammed into the ground shortly there after. The game then crashed and when I reloaded I had a capsule for that ship sitting on the surface of the Mun with the Kerbal inside. A rescue mission is now needed. The I had a Minmus lander arrive for landing which I messed up and clipped a high point on the surface at 300+ m/sec. This resulted in the ship disintegrating but the capsule bouncing back to 10k sub-orbital height, I then EVA'd and put the Kerbal into an orbit with his jet pack. I was quite chuffed with my effort to save one of the Kerbals on-board (the others in the crew can died on impact) requiring a rescue from orbit. Then the game crashed and when I reloaded the ship was in stable orbit before the impact. I can live with the Kraken attacks as it sometimes leads to interesting scenarios but the constant crashing from a memory leak is extremely annoying. I have to save constantly and I keep the Windows resource use window open on the second monitor so I can occasionally save and quit before the crash at a more opportune time.
  13. I tried recently to run SLI in Mint and was unable to get it too function. Spent 3 days playing with it. I stopped using the Linux version as I had just as many crashes as with Windows. I think it might of been the two video cards and the dodgy Nvidia drivers causing the issue though. Now I'm on one card I have a mind to try it again. I was able to get two monitors to work in Linux easy enough. Not in game but for a browser screen it worked fine.
  14. According to CKAN they are. I had the clouds working with texture manager on but on it's own the game crashes.
  15. I do get the problem. I just switch back to the KSC and go to the tracker screen and recover that way.
  16. What would be even better if you didn't have to launch either. An improvement on that would be not having to build ships either. Image how good it would be if we just double clicked the KSP icon on the desktop and BOOM and big 'You Win' comes up on the screen and then closes after a few seconds on its own and then your computer shuts down automatically a few seconds after that. What an amazing experience that would be. All the tedious game play removed and just being acknowledged as a winner. I don't need to skip the time warping as I run many missions at the same time. I use time warp for small parts, like I have just set up a manoeuvre node 3 mins in the future so I warp to it at 50x speed. Perform my manoeuvre and the by-product is my long term mission has moved a little more towards it's KAC alarm time. I can have missions happening with ancient tech to distant planets while my missions around Kerbin are rocking modern tech. It's a fun way to play and always has something about to happen without the need to flash light years in an instant.
  17. I tried the advice given here. I have definitely improved memory use. Since taking off Texture Manager though I can not get clouds to work. Tried clean install with just the clouds from EVE and Astronomers. Removed the City lights component. Crashes after the modules are loaded and the loading icon comes up in the bottom right just before the menu should appear.
  18. I run contract packs, Remote tech contracts etc. I've only done one tourist mission so far but I incorporated it in with a Kerbal rescue mission from LKO. 4 Capsules on top of each other, 1 Pilot, 2 passengers, 1 spare for the rescue. All with an SSTO rocket which cost very little. I made shed loads of cash from that mission. I think I've only had one other tourist mission offered which I have yet to accept for a Mun and Minmus flyby. I guess it's a bit random which missions you get.
  19. Kerbal Alarm Clock works perfectly. It never over shoots. I don't see any need to over complicate the issue. If your not using KAC already then your not playing KSP correctly. It should honestly be brought into the KSP fold as default.
  20. I haven't tried OpenGl on the current build so i will give that another go. edit: I just tried OpenGl mode and it starts the game at about 1.7GB usage down from 3Gb so that's a fairly big saving and should provide some extra headroom. edit 2: I played for about 10 mins and the memory usage has gone up about 300mb. Still the OpenGl setting should provide 30-40 minutes of play before crashing which is a lot better than before. edit 3: Nvidia OpenGl exception error - crashed to desktop. Guess it's not the answer after all. I'm not sure what ATM is? The memory usage usually starts out at about 3GB for KSP then slowly creeps up to 3.6 or so, then crashes. It seems to be associated with flipping around screens. So if I pilot a ship then go back to the KSC then to the hanger etc it won't release the memory and continues to increase. My System is: Intel I5 2500k @ 4.4ghz Asrock Z68 Extreme4 16GB DDR3 Nvidia GTX 970 Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B51LnE86eEvJZE1YWXJqUzZtT2s/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B51LnE86eEvJN2UtekxnaVpVT28/view?usp=sharing
  21. I haven't tried deleting any ships but I can't play for more than 10 minutes at a time without a memory crash. I decided to give up on the game until 1.1 is released. I really wanted to play again though so I tried again on 1.04 since I haven't played in a month or so. Crashed within minutes so I'm back to waiting on 1.1.
  22. They have sold over a million copies. Probably at an average of $20 per copy. $20M income from game sales lets say. 10 full time devs at $100k/yr each (this is a huge figure for your average dev, and more devs than I believe squad is actually employing. $1M/yr expenses. 5yrs of development x $1M/yr = $5M out of $20M. Someone has made a lot of money already. I see no reason to give them any more to improve this game. I would see it as fair if they supported and added content for another 5 years and kept $10M in profits or funding for their next project so they don't need to stuff around with crowd funding. KSP 2 done with a larger budget from the outset for example. Obviously this is a dumbed down version and doesn't factor is many expenses (Steam's cut etc) but it also doesn't factor in ongoing income from future sales of game copies and merchandise.
  23. The problem with TAC-LS is the all in one tanks carry the amount of supplies to be consumed at the same rate. It makes no sense to carry anything but the all in one tanks for that reason. It might as well just be LS instead of 3 different consumables because they all run out at the same time anyway.
