  1. I try to use as few addons as possible. I have 4 and that is enough for me.
  2. When I explore a planet I do it with a mobile base with a pair of science labs and full sized converter.
  3. Last night I cheat landed a rocket boosted glider on Eve to test if it was a practical way to explore the purple world. Spoiler Alert: It isn't. You lose velocity too vast to get very far, even after burning 200 m/s of Delta-V. Then while lying in bed trying to sleep I remembered Breaking Ground included new parts that spin, and it occurred to me that these make electrical aircraft or boat propulsion possible. So I got out of bed and messed around with them for a bit. I got a few nuk powered toys off the ground, and discovered what kind of autostructing to use and not to use. I've been working on my second mobile base for Eve for the better part of a month, and now I think I'll either scrap it or send two; one to explore land, one to explore the seas. A fan boat hydroplane might work pretty well on Eve. If anyone has pointer on turning the new rotors into propellers, feel free to reply with them. How did you solve the icing problem? Counter rotating props? What did you send the spin rates to?
  4. I there an addon that will display a line where the atmosphere atmosphere of a planet begins in the map view? I really need this ability.
  5. How do I set up and use the new Ionographer PD-22, and what does it actually do?
  6. Still sounds good. My mobile base will carry 9 sets and use Bon Voyage to travel will I do other things.
  7. Is there a limit to the number of sets of the new deployable science parts? I'm incorporating them into a new mobile base I'm preparing for Eve. Also, is it worth it to mount one of those new Curiosity arms on a manned mobile base?
  8. I have a plane en route to Laythe right now, and it will arrive with enough leftover delta-v to stop dead over Laythe and maybe even land vertically. I just need to know how much velocity I should dump.
  9. I've used a rocket similar to yours successfully once on Mun, but had to cheat on Moho. Gravity is a pain in the hindquarters and maneuvering over the shipwreck is a royal pain too. If I ever accept another surface salvage mission I won't do it that way. I think the best course of action is to mount the Klaw on the side of your rocket and land on a set of powered wheels, and just drive up to the shipwreck to grab it. Then lift off and ditch the drive wheel, using reaction wheels and RCS jets to compensate for the rocket now being a bit out of balance.
  10. What is the best way to bring a jet aircraft into Laythe's atmosphere safely? Should I dump as much velocity with rockets as possible before insertion, or dump just enough so my perigee is just above the ocean's surface? I've done the latter once before and it almost ended with a flat spin stall and crash; I managed to land safely some how.
  11. I've been tinkering with a new Bon Voyage equipped mobile base that I might send to Eve for the last week or so. It uses the 5 pairs of the largest landing gear to hold most of its weight so there is less strain on the drive wheels. It also has under half the parts of my first mobile Eve base. Anywho tonight I decided to try an insertion test. I used all the cheats to find trouble spots without having to start over. Long story short the drive wheels need more protection and a shallow insertion vector would be ideal. Also since I didn't actually choose my landing spot, rather just ran the deorbit stage for 30 seconds, the test article ended up going down over a body of explodium, so I couldn't test it on land. Here are a few pictures. This is an earlier version. It stayed pointing in the right direction most of the way. Right after I took this picture I tried to fast forward to when it hit the water, and it krakened. So that was the end of the test.
  12. Will an aeroshell protect a vehicle during entry to Eve's atmosphere?
  13. I caught an asteroid. Just a little D-Class. This is actually a space station I placed over Moho today.
  14. Is there a way to override the built in offset limit in the VAB? I can't get a part more than 35 or 40 meters away from the root part.
  15. I have a contract for a station orbiting Duna, so I built this. It's not quite ready, and still needs RCS jets.
  16. Do rocket assisted gliders work well in Eve's crazy atmosphere? Something with huge wings and a bunch of rocket to give it a push?
  17. Yes, I get the "unsupported addon" error every time I start up the game, and when I try to use Bon Voyage (also out of date) I get the same catastrophic results that caused me to install world stabilizer in the first place

  19. I launched a sizable flotilla to Jool. 13 craft, mostly unmanned.
  20. You can use the offset tool to tuck the segments in so you don't have those unsightly gaps everywhere. Also I prefer the structural tubing for the spokes of my ring stations over empty boosters. Granted they don't look quite as good. You know I've never built a ring out of those huge passenger cabins. Maybe I should.
  21. I don't have a picture available on this computer, but I launched my largest single launch space station yet last night. It's a hemispherical cage designed to fit around an E-Class asteroid. 48 m tall by 84 m in diameter, and it looked rather ridiculous on its launch vehicle; like a woman with very long legs wearing a hoop skirt. It's also designed to accommodate the attachment of the other half of the cage, which I might design to build and launch at some point in the future. When this station arrives at its station orbiting Tylo and docks with its asteroid, a suitable one I already have in place, it will be named "Androndicus Station, after Shakespear's best play. Until its arrival it is simply the "Tylo Asteroid Cage". Okay here are some pictures. Lifting off. And here it is during the final parking burn. This is from an asteroid fit test of an earlier version. That is an E-Class asteroid.
  22. Just use MechJeb. In the real world computers do the flying. Safer and cheap that way.
