  1. Thats why there is sandbox mode, no space program starts with "future" technologies, you have have to build your way to the better techs, however I can also pull the "there is probably a mod for that" card.
  2. So we all have had failures in ksp, but what is the absolute worst one you have had to deal with? For me it would be one of two missions, after Valentina made a round trip to Duna she was killed after I realized that my parachute for landing on Kerbin was already used when I landed on Duna's surface. She splashed into the ocean at around 500 mph, losing about 3000 science and over 1,000,000 funds. The second mission was also supposed to be for Duna, I spent three days building an interplanetary ship in LKO for six kerbals, however I had greatly underestimated how much fuel I would need to get in an escape trajectory and ended up having to slingshot around the mun to get the required delta V, but of course something had to go horribly wrong. While passing a few hundred meters over the moon I started a burn with my mailsail engine that I had not used yet. Well the stress was too much for my poor docking ports to handle and the ship split into four pieces, that proceeded to smash into each other. Half the crew was instantly killed while the other half (Propelled by the collisions) smashed straight into the mun's surface. There were no survivors
  3. When you begin to overheat three seconds after entering the atmosphere of Kerbin
  4. I've never sent kerbals to Eve, Jool and its moons, Moho or Eeloo mainly because I have been working on a Minmus refuel base that takes up a lot of my time (and funds)
  5. So the whole crashing problem is becoming kinda unbearable, at first it was every other flight but now it is about a minute or two after starting up KSP. I'm not here to just complain, I understand that any new release will have a few bugs but does anyone know how to help with the problem? Also sorry for adding to the numerous threads about crashing problems.
  6. I have a challenge that I have always wanted to do; try to land on the moon and return in first person only (only map view can be used for maneuver nodes)
  7. One problem I and many others are experiencing is crashing, this is a HUGE problem in career mode when it is on hard mode. I did a whole mission to the moon and right as I hit the atmosphere of Kerbin to return the game crashed. Valentina and her craft was lost along with most of my funds and the science aboard her ship. Now I don't want to complain too much because I understand that every release will be buggy at first, but I think squad should really focus on the stability issues. Note: I have no mods installed so this is purely a stock problem.
  8. I'm not sure if this is old news but if you want to take a crew report, but already have one, you can go EVA and collect stored experiments then go back into your ship. This stores the crew report as an experiment allowing you to take another report. This helps on long missions to maximise science, and can be done as many times as needed. I hope this helps!
  9. It's a sunny clear day where I am, however knowing Kansas weather it won't last long.
  10. I was just about to make a thread about this, I thought I was the only one that noticed!
  11. Probably, but knowing how greedy I am for science points I couldn't pass up an opportunity to get a few hundred more from Duna.
  12. After Valentina got stuck on Ike I used the remaining fuel to pilot her down to Duna's surface and launched a probe to go pick her up, the mission was successful and Valentina was returned safely to Kerbin.
  13. I was wondering, how did your first Mun landing (or attempt) go? On my first attempt I missed the capture and orbited another 60 days until I finally entered the Mun's SOI, after a few burns I was heading in for a one way landing, at the time I had no idea how to return so Jebediah was going to be in a one man Mun base for a while, well it turns out you need to slow down in advance to land so time warping until I was just above the ground was a poor decision. They say you could see the explosion from Kerbin.
  14. After getting a probe around Eve I realized that I had way too much fuel left, so I decided to get into orbit around it's moon Gilly. Even after achieving orbit I still had a ton of fuel to spare, so I had an idea, time to land on Gilly! Note: This probe was never meant to land on something and had no landing legs or gears. So after doing a few burns I was in a suborbital trajectory. Using my nuclear engine I managed to slow the probe down and land. But what did I use to land? The solar panels of course! Thanks to Gilly's low gravity and the power of SAS I managed to balance the ship on it's panels and return to orbit around Eve. Looks like Jeb has some competition when it comes to landing skills Also I decoupled the nuclear engine and fuel tank before landing to reduce weight.
  15. Am I the only one that keeps forgetting about Dres? Sometimes when i'm in the tracking station I think to myself "Wait, what the heck is that rock between Duna and Jool?" and then after looking at it i'm like oh its you Dres!
  16. I always liked Minmus because of it's low gravity and icy look.
  17. Voiced by the god of KSP himself, can't get much better than that.
  18. Ok so I had an idea today, since we can now redirect asteroids would it be possible to put one in such a low orbit that you could see it from the ground of kerbin? Also, would it be possible to put one in an orbit around the mun or minmus where it hovers just over the ground? Imagine landing and seeing a death boulder flying at orbital velocity zoom past your ship!
  19. After launching a probe controlled piece of a space station I realized that in order to dock I would have to decouple the command pod with Bob and another nameless kerbal in it, after some thought I decided to move them both onto a ladder. Well it turns out that kerbals have butter fingers because as soon as I throttled up they bumped into each other and went flying right into my engine exhaust. Bob managed to survive the intense heat but the other kerbal was instantly vaporized. The powerful thrust jettisoned Bob into the upper atmosphere where he inevitably burnt up.
