  1. The aptly named Navball docking alignment indicator?
  2. Wow, that's beautiful! Let's give this thread a well deserved bump.
  3. I am very interested in this. FAR aerodynamics are way more complex than I want, but stock falls short. Thanks!
  4. Basically, we're saying that's what has already occured.
  5. Tried that, and there is no improvement. It currently seems to be all or nothing for me. Not that the slowdown is -terrible- for me. It is roughly half speed, making launches seem to take a long time and aircraft seem to handle sluggishly. -Note that the game runs at normal speed if I switch to map view.
  6. A basic requirement for something to be considered alive is that it have a metabolism. Bacteria are alive; fire is not. Viruses are probably not alive by this definition, even though they borrow a metabolism now and then. The silicone cave intelligence is interesting as an example of intelligence without life.
  7. I will need to check that out. I started by removing all volumetric layers to no effect, and then the rest of the layers. Only thed did KSP run at proper speed. Adding the default clouds (EVE default I guess?) back in afterwards using the in game editor does not affect my game speed.
  8. By deleting all of Kerbin's cloud layers, I have no more lag on Kerbin. I really need to get a big ship to another planet and test it there. Duna ahoy!
  9. Well, if my problem is in any way related to this, let me fill you in some details. I'm running Linux 64, so memory limit should be a non-issue. I've only noticed slowdown on, or orbiting and looking at, Kerbin. (Kerbin is the only place I have tested that has an atmosphere) There is no difference in what resolution pack I use. Using alt-N, if I either delete or reset the cloud layers to default EVE, the problems go away. I have to delete ALL the cloud layers though, and even adjusting them (turning off volumetric cloud layers, for example) doesn't do anything. Hope that helps!
  10. Best tip ever. Why didn't I think of that?
  11. This is really, really beautiful. Unfortunately, something in the pack is killing my FPS on Kerbin. Even running the low-res pack is substantially slower than using my previous setup with EVE, Custom Asteroids, and Texture Replacer. FPS are unaffected in space unless looking at Kerbin, and I have not checked out other planets. Could anyone suggest what might be the culprit?
  12. Yes, Gyrocopters. The trickiness is in adjusting the propeller throttle without also adjusting hover altitude. Both use SHIFT and CONTROL, so as I go slower, I go lower. EDIT: After a brief bit of research on gyrocopters, I should point out that the main rotor is powered in this case. So, a helicopter with propellers?
  13. The new prerelease is fantastic, Snjo! It's great that you got rid of "FScoolant" and the new hover function is very easy, and fun, to use. Rotor placement guides are working flawlessly, and are very useful. Things that I've noticed that may not be quite right: - Hover height control is a little tricky to use with an autogyro setup. - Tweakable gas engines do not have an "activate/deactivate engine" option for action groups. - Electric rotors do not have a hover function. - Helicopter takeoff using tweakable rotors seems too fast (Probably due to greater in flight responsiveness.) All in all, wow!
  14. I still dream of green glass and fried chicken. Thanks for that.
  15. You should find Ubuntu very friendly towards setting up a dual boot. However, there are several other good distro's out there if, like me, you find Ubuntu a little... ugly. Mint is Ububtu based, and very good. Lesser known is Pinguy, but when I used it, I found it to be very well made, and preloaded with almost everything I needed.
  16. Well, supposing a unit square of sides length =1, we have sqrt(1^2+1^2) for the length of the diagonal. A unit cube will be sqrt(1^2+(the diagonal of the square)^2 , or sqrt(1+2). A tesseract will be sqrt(1^2+(the diagonal of the cube)^2) , or sqrt(1+3) which = 2, and so on. It's a really neat relation. Good work noticing it on your own!
  17. That's probably a capacitor in your PSU. Not necessarily harmful, but if it bothers you then unplugging the computer should let it fully discharge. It might even stop it from starting to hum again. YMMV.
  18. Thank you for the recommendation, but I would still like to know an answer on how to transfer the OS from one drive to another. You are likely correct that reinstalling is a the superior option, but I like to get all the facts before I make a decision. So, would anyone like to tell me a good method of transferring an OS from an old HDD to SSD? Also, as I run a dual-boot system, is there any problems with partitioning my SSD for the two OS's?
  19. Before I get my new motherboard, I might have to give up one of my hard drives. Unfortunately, it is the system drive. So, what is the best way to transfer my OS from an older drive to a SSD?
  20. After one too many problems like that, I found bugmenot, and skip the problem entirely. I just checked and at least one of their profiles (@ bugmenot.com/view/dd-wrt.com work for the site. Good luck with your problem!
  21. So, I posted way back here with my computer specs, and I'm thinking of finally upgrading my motherboard. With a budget of about $300, what can I expect to get? Bear in mind, I'm a huge fan of silent and fanless components. Thanks! Edit: I've played around on PcPartpicker, and put this together, with some of the stuff that is already in the computer. How's that look?
  22. Well, I've always been keen for someone to model an Ionocraft. Anything that travels using electrohydrodynamic effects to fly just sounds sciency!
  23. Very sexy rocket parts going on here. You have a great vision going, and I look forward to the final product!
  24. Hopefully this will put an end to all those videos and pictures that are just "vast expanse of black." Nice work.
