  2. Hey Haf
I have been in the planet modding community for a while so is there any part in the configs that will allow me to remove volumetric clouds form all around the globe or remove them completly

    1. HafCoJoe

      HafCoJoe

No, not exactly. You'll want to remove the entire object, not just the portion that says macrocloudmaterial.

Ex. on kerbin you'll want to delete these two bits:

You would have to manually remove the lines you don't like for each planet inside GameData/Spectra/Spectra_Configs/EVEAtmo_Main.cfg

I did a video tutorial about how to remove the planet glow effects and you could use it as an example but for clouds instead-

I hope this helps? Don't be afraid to as if you have more questions :)

  4. Hello Matt,

In one of your latest videos (the one with the ssto carrying two mini sats to orbit) you use a nice mod, that gives the rapiers a nice plume. You called it "wutible mod" or something like that. I can't find it due to my wrong spelling as a not-native-speaker. Can you tell me where to get it and whats the correct spelling?

Also: what other visual mods have you installed? I never saw clouds in such a great visual effect as in your video. What did you install from where and how did you configure it? I'm no expert in KSP-Modding.

Matt Lowne's user page probably isn't the best place to discuss but, but both Eve Redux and Spectra are more CPU bound.

I tend to build things around 300-500 parts before the framerate drops low enough that it gets annoying :P  I don't do hardly anything above 500

@Weak Player you're only getting 33-40 fps with stock? That's worryingly low on its own :/ you are correct though; it is indeed the volumetrics that are causing the lag; they're particles drawn across the globe at varying opacities depending on the opacity of the overlay texture. Spectra uses the most optimized number of particles I could get with them still looking not-tiling.

@Rakete it is indeed, and in fact I use Eve Redux myself :) My system is an i7-6700k, GTX 1080ti, and 16 GP of ram. Your CPU and RAM are better than mine, but your GPU is a little bit worse. I also play on 1440p. I'm guessing that because your CPU is better, you might be able to launch higher part count vessels than me, but your fps at lower part count vessels will be lower than mine? It's all just a guess though haha

I have been summoned! Lol, got a notification that ye linked my post :)

Yeah! I actually did my damndest to optimize Spectra to its absolute maximum so it has just about as good of performance as any visual pack there is; if you do try these and have lag problems let me know and I might have a few solutions too

  7. So, life updates, again?

I think the main thing is, despite my government's efforts on decimating its own population, I'm still alive. That's already a lot to expect in The Year of Our Lord MMXXI, and I'm so happy to see a lot of familiar faces still active here.

I've switched jobs a few times since we last spoke, and as of early this year I've landed on a carreer I've been desiring for quite a while, and am now in a senior position working with data science and machine learning. Still happily married, still happily childless (tho slowly changing my mind), at the moment living at my mother's, but with my own house being built (was already slowly due to budget, and then the whole world fell apart...)

And... I guess that's it. The itch to play the game never came back, tho I haven't lost hope. To the two or three of you that I've on my Steam contacts list of Gtalk (seriously, is that still a thing???), I may not chat with you, but my heart still warms to see you online from time to time. To everyone else, if you ever wanna check if I'm alive, twitter is for the time being my platform of choice, where you can catch up on my very, very low sense of humour and leftist excrementsposts. Or just add me on steam. I... guess my handle there is "Monstah"...? Here, it's this one: steamcommunity.com/id/monstrim

Stay alive, everyone. Keep safe. Love!

It's good to hear from you! Take care man, I know from experience that trying to do something you don't have the drive for feels awful. I've been on a hiatus myself for a good half-year now, though I'm hoping I get the drive to come back soon too. Still checking the forums on a daily basis, though :) old habits never die.

I sent you a friend request! You should see something from a certain HafCoJoe. I'm not sure if we have any other games in common, but there's only one way to find out.

      Take care, Monstah.

  8. So, since you've changed your name- which half are you in? The above average(joe) half, or the below average(joe) half? ;)

    1. HafCoJoe

      HafCoJoe

Ha! I'll leave that up for debate :) This name change has been a long time coming now, and I finally took the jump.

  9. Hey all! I just revamped my forum avatar to use perfect curves instead of the varied curves I had before. It's a subtle difference but makes the whole arrowhead a bit sleeker. What do you think?

    1. HafCoJoe

      HafCoJoe

Awww yeah. Yeah it's subtle unless you see the old and the new alongside each other:

      Old:dM0ThuX.png

      New:kLmQjjp.jpg

For some fun trivia, the curves in the icon are brachistochrones, I.E. the shortest route a falling object would take to get from the top of the curve to the bottom.

It is in a sense yeah :/ I always recognize you by your pooch :) I've been disliking having my Volta fighter jet as my indicator across the internet recently and wanted to go with a more streamlined icon. If I ever start my own company, this would be its logo.

  14. Hello, everyone. So. Life updates!

I haven't played KSP since last time I saw you. Actually, I uninstalled it for the first time in years. I'll probably take at least a year of time out from it, which is fine considering I'd been playing it almost nonstop for some five years.

I have a new job: I now do BI for a (big) insurance broker (which is opening up for other products). I knew nothing of insurance before this, so I'm doing homework all day long. At first I thought I couldn't access the forum even if I wanted to, but recently I discovered the company has both a Corporate and a Pesonal wi-fi networks, and I can use the Personal without a firewall. That means I might be around here more often that I thought at first :) (I may not feel the same about the game as I once did, but know this: I miss the forum. You guys are in my heart)

Unlike my previous job, however, I've been busy the whole friggin' day, and I get home tired as hell. I used to moderate from work, now I can barely catch my Feed. Also, I'm now co-worker with a childhood friend, and that's pretty damn awesome.

My wife's employed again, after a year without a job. She's teaching classes at a university! So, between that and my slightly improved paycheck, our household income has increased by some 110%, which is great for our plans of building our new house.

I guess that's it for now! Hope you guys are doing fine.

Just read that there's an 1.4.3 coming up, I'm crossing my fingers you get a product you can call "THE game". 1.3.2 was so close to being it, in my opinion! 1.4.0 was a big let down to me, but I wouldn't have left the forum if not for a combination of factors including changes in my personal life. Even if I never play KSP again, it was a big part of my life, and I think you guys deserve a definitive edition, just like the game itself deserves to be in a worthy shape of a larger market.

    o/

  15. Still spinning!

Looks like the journey took the craft above the 250 altitude limit, forcing it to the ground. Anyways I"m impressed. It sailed all night.

    1. HafCoJoe

      HafCoJoe

Ah you got it - while the engines can technically lift 500t, I definitely don't suggest it with how low it's operating altitude is :D it couldn't even reach the top of the VAB before the atmosphere thinned too much to increase altitude. Here's the engine data I uncovered  with SumGuy, and here's the craft file if anyone wants it too.

      Procedure to launch:

      1. Press stage 1, wait 2 seconds, press stage 2. If either engine fails to be grabbed by the claw revert to launch and reset
      2. Extend both inflatable airlocks (This docks them to the claw to make step 3 more rigid)
      3. Free the pivot on both claws.
      4. Press final stage and throttle up to max. Craft should lift off when the wheesley's reach 1~09.5 kN of thrust

You can also skip the engine gimbal by switching stage 3 to the start and simply launching. The engine gimbal is still pretty finicky, and changing yaw with the gimbals free causes the engines to fly off so beware of that as well...

Note to Azimech: I increased the number of RCS ports that hold the rotor the farthest joint (the one at the bottom where the gyroscopic precession is the worst) from three to six and also went with a hybrid of six spectro-variometers to keep the bearing centered (since they're massless and don't move much from their parent), and six large landing gear (to share the load from gyroscopic precession when turning at high Gs). I found that the combination worked better than either on their own, and now it's more likely for the pilot error to be the cause of crash than the blades unseating themselves.

Yeah! It's currently a debate between using goliaths or going all out with a pair of massive propellers. I've got very little practice with propellers though so I might ask your help in the future. Needs to survive time warp... and maybe phys... Concept

  20. After a six month hiatus I'm back playing Kerbal again, and to coincide with that Twitch just sent me an invitation to their Affiliate program! I'm hoping to do some more streaming later this week, if not tonight. :)

    - as a closing note to why I've been away for so long, this isn't the first time I've taken an extensive break from KSP. Not the second either. There's something that keeps drawing me back... Curiosity? Nostalgia? Community? Opportunity? Who knows.

    1. HafCoJoe

      HafCoJoe

Huh, I feel it'd be nice to talk w/ you on stream one evening if you're interested - I find I play for around a month or two and then go on a break to other games for a while before taking it back up again. What's your twitch? I'll give you a follow!

  22. I may have big news this day, at least this week.

Hint: It's not related to Evolution, or anything planet or Kopernicus related for that matter.

    ...

Okay, because it's the holiday season, I'll drop another hint: it's a project I've been working on non-stop for several days now. It's already working in-game, but I'll have to fine tune some settings before release. The mod aims to stand alongside TextureReplacer, EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements and Scatterer.

  23. Heh dude,

The old girls finally died on me. :( Was thinking one of these two as a replacement:
