  1. I'm a rather new player and I accepted a mission to put a satellite into a designated orbit around the Mun. So I built the sat and put it into orbit and all mission critical circumstances were fulfilled except the: Reach the designated equatorial orbit around the Mun with reasonable deviation. The Periapsis is supposed to be 241,665m and the sat. is at 241,653m, and the Apoapsis is supposed to be 252,929m and my sats is 252,958. In my book that is a reasonable deviation. Especially since in all the videos I watched on youtube they usualy had far greater deviations. The orbit is pretty much spot on with only a few dozen meters difference, yet it won't let me accomplish the mission. Is that a bug? or is there something I'm doing wrong?
  2. Greetings. Firstly let me just explain that I am quite new to the game as I have only been playing for a week or so. I'm having a bit of difficulty getting my Mun lander into orbit of Kerbin, let alone to the Mun. My main issue is loss of control - the rocket spins, flips and does whatever it wants, even with SAS enabled, whenever I engage the main liquid engine. It's fairly stable whilst using the initial boosters to get off the ground though...until I fire up the main engine that is... I have tried many different setups using my brain to design them but to no avail, so I thought i'd ask you guys for some help. I'm not asking for someone to design a rocket for me (i'm not that lazy), however if what I am doing needs to be binned, then I will happily accept any help that is offered. My lander and command module is 13T in mass...which might be my first problem. Here is a screenshot (not including AE-FF1 protective shell - is this needed?) without any of the many rocket designs I have tried below it. I have tried both slim and fat launch vehicles, usually with 2/4 boosters at the bottom. I have tried attaching some boosters further up near my payload to "tug" it unto orbit and that also doesn't work. Perhaps I need to learn more about launch profiles, perhaps just rocket design. Either way, I have been trying all day to launch this to no avail. I can get to 80km+ but when I try to round off my orbit, the rocket spins out of control even on quite a low throttle. Redesigning my lander isn't out of the question either. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions or help please? Many thanks in advance.
  3. My first 10-ish hours in Kerbal Space Program have been an absolute blast. Since I'm not the biggest fan of simulators I didn't expect to be drawn in this fast and deeply, but lo and behold if I didn't have last year of vocational school and other social responsibilities, I'd be playing it non-stop. My 10 hours have passed as such: First 2 hours spent flying one engine rockets and or blowing up the faculty buildings (sorry scientists and engineers). Then for 3 hours collecting data and unlocking new parts to toy with, also made my first airplane and took it for a joyride (landing is okay except the tail is too long and always breaks on touchdown). Around my 6th or 7th hour I achieved orbit and started setting up a satellite network, gotta get paid yo. With the new dosh I upgraded most of the faculty buildings. Now with second level tracking and administration building I can set maneuvers and I've spent the rest of the time flying towards the Mun, by the Mun and once even into the Mun. Just 15~ mins ago I managed my first Mun landing, it involved a lot of bouncing and non-important parts exploding since I ran out of fuel when it came time to break. Now Jeb is stuck there with the remnants of his rocket and our company flag. Pictures of Jeb on the Mun -> http://imgur.com/a/xKRRF And I already have ideas on what to do next (set up a satellite network on the moon so Jeb can talk to his wife, get a rover somehow on the Mun and if there's time, get him home). Also to those wondering, the amount of dead Kerbans (Kerbals? Kerbins? Kerbonauts??) is: yes
  4. So ive been working on a mun base recently. ive designed the modules and did the maths. but i still have a problem: resupply missions. i have usi life support installed and crew cant just stay there forever (ive made it self suffiecent using planetary base systems, but usi ls also includes hab and home, so u need to change the crew every now and then). thing is, that im not the best with accuracy landings. i also know that mechjeb can do it for u but im a type of guy that enjoys lko station resupply missions. so, how do i transport kerbals and supplies from lander to base? are there any tools to show you more accurate landing predictions? should i move that to another thread? tnx for reading and (hopefully) responding.
  5. ola pessoal. eu não consigo chegar um mun. mas eu uso hyperedit é melhor bem pessoal nos eu uso mod hyperedit é melhor de mod
  6. Hello, fellows! Today I share my trip to Minmus, it was kinda risky and fun. My Rocket: (It is my Mun lander) Engineer's report: totally overengineered. The Lower Stage: It's a Mainsail with 3 Skipper Liquid Fuel Boosters, which are connected to the main part. On top of that, there are 3 Thumpers. The Upper Stage: It's the mighty Poodle Engine(!!!!) with 2-and-a-half X200-16 Fuel Tanks. The Lander: It's a Mk1 Command Pod with some Material Bays, 16 (Yes, I said 16) Mystery Goo Containers, an Inline Stabilizer, parachutes, moar science stuff etc. aaaaaand the Terrier with a flat Rockomax Tank (Patent Pending). The album: http://imgur.com/gallery/8NlzB ( I forgot to take the pictures before the landing, basically the Liquid fuel Boosters ran out in the high atmosphere and I had an AP of 100km. With the full main part, I orbited, changed Inclination and did 3/4 of the burn to Minmus.) Hope you liked my first report of a mission. Let's hope for me (13,from Germany) that there are no grammar or spelling mistakes. (I know that I can't reveal my age if I'm 12 or below) DarkFighter Thanks to the moderator who approves this
  7. So in my career game, as usual, I'm holding off on upgrades as long as possible because I hate running grind missions for cash and later missions are worth more. This makes me incredibly selective as to what, and when, I upgrade. Because of that, I've gotten reasonably handy at free return missions for Mun flyby's with tourists and the like. You can even pull off some stunts like doing a really really high orbit for cheap then pushing it back out to where you started if you've got 3-400 d/v left over when you slip past. However, I find myself wanting some low orbit science, so my little science visitor, quicksave, and myself decided to play some Munar chicken. I figured I'd share for those who'd like to know. Some caveats: This was done by hand, no conics, from a roughly circular orbit at 70.3k above Kerbin. Burns are pure prograde burns starting at Munar rise, which means there's some slight variance as to when I got the time warp back to zero. Thus, YMMV, but this should give some rough help for those interested: 10 million: ~2.1kk - ~23k Peri (Escape to Kerbin) 11 million: ~135k - ~18kk apo, ~4.8kk peri 11.08 million: 30-55k Peri - ~25.4 - 30kk apo, ~6.7- 7.4kk Peri (lower you go higher these get) 11.1 - 11.9 million: Welcome to Mun - You're not coming home. 11.95 million: ~40k retro - ~7.5kk Peri 12 million: ~80k retro - ~7kk Peri 12.5 million: ~535k retro - ~1.5kk Peri 13 million: ~950k retro - ~415k Peri 13.5 million: ~1.3kk retro - ~77k Peri 14.0 million: ~1.5kk retro - Landing on Kerbin Because of this, For a low orbit flyby I've found that the best general method is to aim for the 11.08 million line and get retro'd out into deep Kerbin orbit. At the high apoapsis drop periapsis down to your typical 30-35k re-entry height (bring a heat shield) and head home. MET goes way up (9 - 12 days) but it's efficient, as it only takes around 150 d/v to get yourself back to re-entry. Just watch out for heat.
  8. I had a vessel in fairly low orbit of the mun (5km to 6km). Although this is lower than the highest point on the mun, I watched it make a full orbit before leaving it. I then sent another craft to rendezvous with it, but as I switched between map view, it suddenly stopped appearing on the map. Unable to complete the maneuver (as I had no target), I reverted to launch and watched the craft orbit the moon fully again without crashing. Is this a bug? Is there a point where a craft that's on rails will crash by default?
  9. Has anyone else noticed this? Today i updated x science, and started checking to see which places i needed to revisit, during a flight to the southern ice shelf. It listed 4 different lowlands on the mun. Back at ksc, my science archives also had four different lowlands in the biome filter. I thought it was just my save, but, the wiki page for the mun has Lowlands (4x). Does this mean there really are four different lowland areas on the mun?, I haven't been there yet, but how would we know the difference between them?
  10. This is my ship can hover it is for mining enjoy! please comment what you think! i let the video at the bottom enjoy! Video here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5lvAqdChDU
  11. This is a mission for everyone. If you've been to the Mun, you remember the struggle to design something awesome enough to reach its cratered surface, the long, perilous descent onto the surface itself, and the inevitable failure of your landing legs. If you've been to the Mun you know what pain is. If you haven't been to the Mun, your one goal is your worst enemy: the Mun. It mocks you, even when you shut down your computer. The Mun is visible in real life, so it taunts you in real life. No matter where you go, you cannot escape the eventuality: you cannot be a rocketeer without travelling to the Mun. After reaching orbit, you go to the Mun, that's just the way it works. Dramatic preamble aside, this challenge is more or less exactly in the spirit of something entirely different from the Dres Awareness challenge. The Mun needs nothing, but we need revenge. The challenge is simple: send a mission to the Mun that's suitably massive enough that you can say to yourself: "I have conquered the Mun; there is no mission to the Munar surface that I could not succeed in completing." One rule: no hyperedit. Other mods are totally fine, and don't in any way challenge the legitimacy of your mission (I'd like a list of mods nevertheless, but it's not neccessary). This challenge is about self-fulfillment. Hyperedit is an excellent tool, but in this case, it's counter-intuitive to purpose of this challenge. Mods are perfectly reasonable. NOTE: I'm willing to discuss the no-hyperedit rule. I want lots of pictures! Not for confirmation or anything, I just want to see what everyone comes up with. 13. i uploaded to youtube i titled kerbal space program - kerballo 2 (ryan900) the kerballo 2 enter mun of mission of mun watch here my video
  14. hi hey how's it going I was bored so here's some fanart i made
  15. So I managed to land on the mun, but I didn't do it very economically. I've managed to reach mylar orbit but I now need a lift, is there a way of recovering a capsule from Mubarak orbit that doesnt have a docking port?
  16. To complete this challange you must build a rocket using only mk 1 engines, fuel tanks, etc. but the rocket must cost under 15,000 funds it must also go to the Mun and back with 3 kerbals mods allowed

  18. Hey guys, I'm just wondering which moon i should visit first. Mun or Minmus? I haven't been to either in my own game. So which do you think i should go to first?
  19. So, anyone care to explain the natural phenomena that results in this? It kind of moved as I did, so felt like it was a natural occurrence rather than a graphical glitch, but I'm at a bit of loss to explain it exactly.
  20. I've been trying to mount a rescue mission to pick up Jebediah who is orbiting around the Mun. He ran out of fuel and is simply unable to get home O_o For the life of me I can't seem to build a ship capable of making it to the Mun, performing intercept maneuvers to get close to him, and then has enough fuel to make it home. Most of my ships seem to just falter even getting into orbit at this moment due to how much fuel I'm trying to carry. All my previous ships can -get- to the Mun, but once they get there they too are unable to make it back. So what's my best option here? Should I build a low orbit docking + fuel station, or is there some way to build a ship capable of doing everything I need with tier 4 branching into tier 5 tech?
  21. Well, I decided to make an absurd challenge: beat my personal record in sending Kerbals to the Mun in one flight. If you can shove more than 36 Kerbals in one spacecraft, and SAFELY land them on the Mun (without docking or refueling on the way there.), then you win the challenge. A vehicle can qualify for multiple challenges. Re-entry heating must exist, and the craft must have flown in 1.0.5 or later. Any inappropriately shaped (offensive or mature symbols) vehicles are disqualified. Only mods such as Mechjeb, Kerbal Alarm Clock, and similar "utility" mods may be used. 22. I've been working through the tutorials for ksp on ps4. I'm trying to get into Mun orbit. I understand the mechanics of maneuvers and I can get fairly close to the Mun. The tutorial wants me to have a relatively circular orbit under 200,000. My closest periapsis has been ~132,000 while my apoapsis has been ~240,000. My eccentricity has been 0.2. However, I run out of fuel to get any closer because the tutorial has me creating all these maneuvers and burning retrograde at least three times. Any suggestions. (Sometimes I get estimated burns to be 3-10 seconds. Is this a glitch or should I just roll with it?)
  23. I would like to start a discussion about Nitrogen on the Moon, and by extension on the Kerbalized version, the Mun The problem is Nitrogen is very rare or hard to acquire on the Moon. It is a relevant problem because Nitrogen is essential if you want to manufacture any Hypergolic Rocket fuel, oxidizer or monopropellant . There ain’t no easy accessible nitrogen deposits on the moon. Nitrogen is part of the Solar Wind deposited in the top soil but only in few part per million. Our only realistic hope of finding significant amount of Nitrogen is in encapsulated in Pyroxene and Olivine deposits that have not been liquefied near the surface (and lost their gas content). But these can only be found deep in the mantle which means they are hard to access. A 5 meter drill is certainly not going to find any significant amount of Nitrogen rock Ore. Therefore my conclusion is the stock IRSU system which requires nitrogen to manufacture LiquidFuel, Oxidiser and Monopropelant is highly unfeasible.
  24. Have you ever thought about it? The Mun seems like a super lame planet. It's the closest to Kerbin, it's copied off the Moon. It looks boring. But when you put your imagination to it, you could turn the whole Mun into a completely new Kerbin! You could build a futuristic new base! You could make a racecourse for you and your friends to drive on! So scrap Duna, and Eeloo, and Dres, and stick with the basics. Stick with the Mun ( Or low Kerbin Orbit )
