Rocket roll

Recommended Posts

[snip] By "rotating", I'm going to assume that you mean endwise. That is such a common problem for newbies that there is an entire FAQ thread in this forum called "Why is my flipping rocket flipping?" It happens in general because the drag on the front end of your rocket is higher than the drag at the back end of your rocket.

Ok, so last time my rockets were "dancing" at 8,000 meters, now they are rotating uncontrollably... I am literally gonna go insane and throw my computer out the window, its like trying to have a normal conversation with cleverbot evie, Its impossible!!!!!!

Add struts, add fins.

Basically, a rocket that looks right flies right.

As long you keep the engines facing into the right direction! :)

Oh, thank you for your response, I know the thread old but I was stressed out and I tried to find help, ill try to properly reshape the airstream protective shell, I think I made the airstream shell a little to pointy at the end which might be the reason why.

Tried adding struts and fins, those made it worse :/ (My rocket did not have boosters so I could not add struts but I tried anyway)

Did you switch on SAS? Default key is T

Or use gimbal engines and moving fins. Reaction wheels, rcs...

Can you post a screenshot of your rocket, please?

"Pointy in the front, CoM near the front, fins at the back" is the standard answer.  However, KSP provides so many different ways to build rockets that it's just about impossible for anyone to help you without seeing your rocket.

(It's kind of like, suppose you had a problem with your car, so you walk into an auto repair shop without your car and say "My car doesn't work, what should I do?"  Well, the first thing the mechanics are going to want to do is to take a look at the car.)  ;)

There are some very simple design principles in KSP that will make it very easy to design rockets that don't flip-- but even though they're simple, they're not obvious if you're new to the game and don't know what they are.  Chances are high that there's something very simple about your rocket, that will be obvious at a glance for an experienced player.  So, if you can just post a picture of your rocket, it's fairly likely that we can give you specific and helpful advice.

Oh! Looks like somehow my rockets heat shield had something to do with the rotation, so I rebuilt my rocket and now its fine. (It was a custom version of the Apollo 12)

Are you sure it wasn't just struck by lightning?
