I posted the first part on the what you did today thread. but I feel it suited more to here.

Let's go to every body.

Let's land on every body*.

Let's return from every boooody.

And hopefully not die as well.

I may have jumped the gun a bit but this isn't my first time.

I will probably merge the 2 together.

*except Eve

And it's just about ready to go.

First stop will probably be Jool so I can unload some mass. Which includes this little guy.

Ok, so taking your guys comments into consideration...

I'm jacking up the plane with these on each wing.

Well... It worked

Not really off the ground though...

Ok and this design, a forklift

I got it on, it that just the landing legs are not lifting the plane up. (this may be it, all it needs is more landing gear)

Try maybe building it like a giant lever. Perhaps with either an empty and full orange tank through which you can transfer ballast and make it tip.

Or maybe the giant lever with a lot of SAS units on it. Then use the sas to tip the lever forklift system up.

Are you trying to keep this all stock?

Scientists at Laythe have been complaining for years about lousy radio-signal reception.

So I'm trying to pack a super-mega-ultra-high-range TV antenna(Let's just pretend that this is what it is) in the form of composite cargo, so the men can enjoy their favorite shows, even on the most distant worlds!

Thanks to some external testing I found the second stage of my CTV is lacking in fuel. With that being one of only 3 issues I feel it is nearing completion.

The others being offset thrust is causing powered landings to be almost impossible and angled RCS ports causing some spin while docking.

Here's some more work on my giant capsule with an appropriately sized service module.

And reentry, which I thought looked cool.

Got rid of one of the decouplers, which seems to have been extraneous, looks better.

It has a max of 2,220 dV, but I would prefer to cap it at a lot less. I'm envisioning this as an 8 Kerbal crew transport vehicle to LKO for an even more massive interplanetary vessel. I have no idea what that would look like though. I'm not great at making things like that.

Impressive. I wouldn't worry about the crafts in question, although I'm surprised you haven't made some already.

Because It's been over a year since the first Tropis was released and since then I've been working on something to celebrate. That's all I'll say.

Something I was working on last weekend.

Not 100% finished yet still working a few things out.

Javascript is disabled. View full album

Can take off vertical or horizontal but its kinda hard to land so i put a few chutes on for now to land it on the tail.

Has Ion engines inside the turbojets and lots of battery power to use them with low or no sunlight.

It can also circularize/deorbit using rcs.

And has 2 sets of landing gear one for tail and one for belly.

Very interesting craft there. You could save a lot of weight and therefore increase performance by removing those big batteries!

They allow me to launch at anytime of day/night and still circularize using ions. Plus they look cool

I am happy to say I just had a breakthrough on the trolley system for my biggest, most complicated, best balanced SSTO yet. With almost 70% of GLOW to orbit, ~36% payload (>1.5 mass ratio!), and a tidy 100mT takeoff mass (yes, you guessed right, the payload is a big red, plus the MMUs to move it), not only is it awesome by numbers, now every feature also works beautifully smooth.

irvFSr2.png

The biggest bird in my SSTO fleet, the Nodachi, is coming, and it is coming standard with a stock reloading mechanism and a payload rack that doubles as bay door and MMU rack for payload handling (and opening and closing the bay of course) that will make anybody capable of actually reusing it! Crew is a nominal three, one pilot and two payload specialists to handle EVAs (totally roleplay, but it does have two MMUs that you need to use, might as well put the kerbals on it). And it flies smoother than it has any right to, given its size.

Rune. Can you tell I like it?

Testing stock hinges:

Turns out those radial ant engines are pretty flexible! :)

Edit: This system seems to work better than structural pylons:

Above is a retrofitted ZF-21 with new stock hinges. I haven't adjusted the docking port positions yet, so the engine's sitting at a weird position right now.

I would like some assistance, I cannot decide how to do the wings on this

http://imgur.com/a/1FVm6

Should I make it a high-wing?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/09/C-5_Galaxy_-_060505-F-0000J-002.jpg/1280px-C-5_Galaxy_-_060505-F-0000J-002.jpg

or a low-wing?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2c/Boeing_747-400LCF_Dreamlifter.jpg

And yes the drop-down door will be in the back, no not in the nose. Yes I plan to fly planes off the top of it. Yes I plan to paradrop loads of Kerbals out of it.

Thanks.

Well having the wings low will give you the risk of hitting the ground on takeoff, lift off, or taxi. Also the wings might be too low for the engines... but I think having the wings low looks better than having the wings high. I feel like if the wings are high... the plane would just flip out. Anyway just test both wing positions out, test it and see how it performs.

These are all valid points. Well, I suppose the comment about looks is an opinion, but engine concerns and cround collision is a concern given the size and flex that may be encountered.

I feel like if the wings are high... the plane would just flip out.

Actually, quite the opposite. High mounted wings are inherently more stable (even in KSP's basic aero model) than low mounted wings. In fact, if they are too high then the aircraft can be overly stable, making it hard to maneuver.

If you look at something large and high wing (like Fred the C-5 there, or a C-17), the wings are also angled slightly down (adding instability) to offset the high wing.

C-5-Galaxy-011.preview.jpg

While if you look at a low wing large plane (like a 747) the wings are pointed slightly up.
