The Original 3

Mister Kerman

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody. Sorry if this topic has been done before. I was wondering what roles you original 3 kerbals; Jeb, Bill, and Bob fill.

I imagine them all to be the very best pilots KSP has to offer, but I tend to split them up except on missions of great importance.

Jeb is my Ace pilot, Bill also fills the ace pilot role, and Bob pilots space labs or space stations until he can be picked up.

I have a few other Kerbals who I like a lot, and use even more than my original 3. I'd like to hear about your guys' favorite kerbals too.

I've got:

-Mally - He tests prototypes and I also consider him a very capable pilot

-Shepmore - Scientist

-Dilson - Scientist

I have a third scientist type which I'll edit into this post later on when I'm near my computer.

Jeb is my test pilot. he is the first one to try out new crafts

Bill is the one to send to dangerous/long/tedious missions because his stupidity is high enough that he doesn't complain too much :D

Bob is somewhat intelligent for a kerbal, so he fills the role of mission specialist. he deploys and maintains new tech.

Jeb is my tester-of-stuff.

If he manages to fly it, it can be flown. If he fails to break it, it is ready for public release.

Was my tester, i should say.

Seems that under the Interstellar mod a thermal overload can be.... violent.

Rest in peace pieces, Jeb.

Bob is the functional pilot. He goes places.

Bill is there to do those pesky eva-for-science trips. Unless on a cool planet, then BoB gets it.

And Rose Kerman is there to make fun of his name. (or her figure, depending on the current vote for his/her gender)

at the moment they are all assigned to the space station in mun orbit, the most boring job any kerbal can have, they will stay in exile there until they learn not to sneak into empty capsules or steal other kerbal's seats.

I have Jeb, Bob, Bill and Steve Kerman as a 4 man team that pilot my motherships to Jool/Eve/Sentar (when I have PF installed). I then have the twins, Enemy & Kenemy Kerman do 2 crew missions to other bodies, then the single crew missions are usually carried out by Cammond, Mitbald or Kirbin Kerman. That's all the ones I know, my stations crews are generic because I rotate them reasonably regularly, and I can't remember anymore single crew pilots I use...

I actually don't use them that much anymore.

Back when I was going to the Mun, the original three ran out of fuel and were trapped there. This, combined with a few other failures, led me to question their abilities as pilots, and stop using all of them. They would always fail, and Robin Kerman would always succeed. As a result, I started using Robin Kerman for everything and Bill/Bob/Jeb for nothing. That said, Jeb recently started sneaking onto test flights, so he's become the official ship tester.

The Kerbals I do use:

Robin Kerman - All the historical stuff. He was the first to orbit the Mun, first to land and return (Jeb and the others landed, but they didn't return) from the Mun, I think the first to land orbit+land on Minmus but I forget, and also I think the first to orbit Kerman. Also the first to step foot on another planet (Dres).

Neillie aka "Icarus" Kerman - First Kerbal to return to Kerbin after leaving its SOI. He was the pilot of the successful manned flights of Icarus program, a series of spaceships designed to try to get "in space near" Kerbol. It finished after he brought a manned spaceship which had the heavier (Goo, science Jr) science equipment near Kerbol and then back to Kerbin, but I have used him occasionally since then. He's generally the first Kerbal I use if I need another one besides Robin.

Bilory Kerman - Scientist. No stupidity, lots of experience. He and Lomy always man the science lab in non-test flights.

Lomy Kerman - Scientist. No stupidity, lots of experience. Also quite a bit of courage. He and Bilory always man the science lab in non-test flights. Also works for NSA and is always watching you. He flew the missions where I set up polar orbits of the Mun and Minmus to spy on them get EVA report+gravity scan of every biome.

Jenrod Kerman - Survivor. First Kerbal to leave Kerbin's SOI. Ran out of electricity. 30 years later (During which I did tons of other stuff), I sent up a probe with a klaw to bring him back. Next, he gets sent on a mission to Jool (Along with Neillie, Bilory, and Lomy. Also Robin, but Robin's ship was separate). While I was focusing on another ship, Laythe (I think) gravity assisted his ship and shot it out of Kerbolar Orbit. It took 50 years (During which I max-timewarped and left KSP running in the background) but ultimately he and the others made it back to Kerbin unharmed. (Robin, the one who was flying around to all the moons, made it back to Kerbin in a much shorter time).

Other Kerbals I occasionally use:

The other scientists whose names I forget - Several Kerbals with no stupidity, they accompany Jeb on test flights with a science lab.

Jengan Kerman - I used him once on a flight where one ship broke up into 9, because I needed 9 pilots. Also I used another Kerbal I can't remember, because Jenrod was still orbiting the sun at at that point and the original 3+the usual ones+Jengan=8.

They are the command crew of (mostly) all bigger missions, sometimes splitting up to lead different crews of rookies into space.

!

That's what I like to do too. I don't like to recruit kerbals until I actually need an applicable applicant. So far I have 3 good pilots, and 3 scientists; which has been all I need up to this point. I prefer to have a team leader who also happens to be an orange suit kerbal on missions that require more than one kerbal. Mally is working his way up to a promotion though. If I need a spare leader, it will definitely be him because of the sheer amount of missions he has under his belt.

The original 3 are special and i usually send no important mission up without at least one of them on board. However, over time, new crews have also earned their boosters... Macfried, Kurt and Ed Kerman are my next favorite 3 crew members. I wish one could assign them suits or helmets in individual colours without using mods.

I tend not to use them due to their ability to respawn. (Though I just learned that ability was removed recently, so perhaps that'll change.) I may start using them as permanent station or planetary base crew. I'm also convinced that Jeb was the first Kerbal in space. I certainly buy into the idea of Jebediah as a fearless, badass test pilot who can't get enough boosters, but the other two don't have enough of an identity in the community for me to care much about them. I kinda like the idea of the three as siblings, though.

They are some of the lucky few kerbals that I feel bad about killing.

Jeb is a brave all-around explorer and pilot. He is in all the first-time missions (except for the... "permanent research base" ones)

Bill is an airplane pilot. He likes to buzz the space center buildings.

Bob is the scientist, so I keep him aboard space stations and things.

I got tired of all three of them, so now Jeb is stuck on Gilly for now. Bill and Bob are prepping the Munar orbit space station. My two main pilots are Ronke Kerman (he's actually got the badS tag, never gets afraid) and Geofbles Kerman as a trusty copilot. Right now Ronke and Gregner are prepping for a circumnavigation of the Mun by rover.

When I start me new career in 0.24, I may end up using Jeb, Bob, and Bill as my "Mercury 7" equivalent. That is, they get to do all the nice early experimental flights, the suborbital and orbital tests, and so on. The after that, they may end up on occasional missions, and not on the same mission teams. :)

I'm pretty ordinary in this regard and just consider them the "senior pilots". Thus they usually get sent on maiden voyages for new ships, either alone or alongside the other Kerbals as a mentor. The rest of the time I mostly keep them at or near the Space Center in case I need a test pilot.

Does the BadS tag go to random kerbals or is it specifically reserved for Jeb?
