Nearly 3 years playing KSP and the same old failures happen
Frank_G replied to Boris_T_Roach's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Putting your abort actions into the staging action group also never gets old... -
RasterPropMonitors might be the one you are looking for.

Bored? Play something else until that new idea flashes into your head. Return to KSP and have some real fun. Fun and excitement cannot be forced.

Sending science as data. Help!
Frank_G replied to Marick73's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The first run will deliver some science, the next less... The third flyby will deliver something around null. And you need a kerbaled mission and bring back the results to get the remaining science. -
Welcome on board! Youll be at home here in notime. Godspeed!

You can take a look at Bob Fitch's (named felbourn here on the forums) youtube channel for some inspiration when it comes to welded parts and performance optimization. There are lost of infos there. I can also recommend the Duna One series on youtube by Vaos, when it comes to nice scene setup without using any mods. Good luck on your mission

Drop some probes and probably a robotic return vehicle first to get some experience in mostly unpowered descents in Eves atmosphere. I found that very helpful. Gaining experience from failure or probe missions is the most thrilling and fun part of the game in my opinion. There is no shame in using hyperedit, but you would miss a lot of fun for sure, especially when going for the big things. There is nothing more rewarding then actually succeeding in a mission completely by yourself.

You need an efficient lander, that doesnt waste fuel during landing, so go for a chute assisted landing. And you need a very large amount of delta V... around 10.000 m/s to make it back up. Personally, i prefer smaller landers with less parts. Makes it more easy during ascend. You can take a look at my Eve mission profile, by selecting the link in my signature, if you like.

Want to go to Eve and back? Try this.
Frank_G replied to Redshift OTF's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
10k of delta V at least. Otherwise it wouldnt make it back. Congratulations on the achievement!!! Returning from Eve really was a big milestone for me too. -
I am online here almost every day, at least for a post or three... and i see many people that are posting frequently. It has become a little more quiet after .24.2 but that isnt the baddest thing. Sometimes structures simply rearrange.

You know you overbuilt your rocket when...
Frank_G replied to Deadpangod3's topic in KSP1 Discussion
...when your SRB powered munar transfer ends in a Jool encounter... -
You can send a probe to an excentric eliptical orbit around the target body and do some scientific measurements on different sections of the orbit to explore and answer that question yourself.

Today i created the MARV-II out of its now decommissioned predecessor MARV-I. The "Mostly-Automatic-Rescue-Vehicle" Mk. II performed well and reached an 80km LKO on SRBs alone with a final boost of its LV-909 LFO engine for circularization. It had plenty of delta V left and it was confirmed that it can easily do any rescue mission around Kerbin or even the Mün and Minmus if necessary. Top row (left to right): The MARV-II under construction - MARV II on the launch pad - Launching Row 2 - 4 (top to bottom): A few seconds till MECO - Fairings away - MARV II in stable equatorial orbit. ...and i did a little excursion to one of the Mün-Archs, close to my permanent Mün base. I tried to reach it with a rover, but i had to cancel the mission and go up using the brand new Ferret Mk.I science lander. Bill and Jerlin were quite happy, reaching the destination, after their failed attempt with the rover. Top - Bill and Jerlin returning from their failed attempt to reach the strange object by rover. It was simply too dangerous. Middle - Jerlin enjoying the view from the top of the Ferret Mk. I while Bill plants a flag at the anomaly, identified as one of those strange Mün-Archs. Bottom - All safe and in place back at Münar Camp I.

Tier One Space Center CONFIRMED: It's a barn!
Frank_G replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I am just imagining Jeb, riding a solid rocket booster and crashing into a barn, while laughing madly... Call the Update... KSP: CATTLETECH! -
Multiple docking ports?
Frank_G replied to Strainborm's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
When you plan your ship precisely, docking it together isnt so hard in my opinion. Plan the parts with an eye on center of mass, add some RCS (maybe even detachable RCS) and docking is a cakewalk... However you will need patience. You cant slam em together like with single ports. [edit] a heavy (meaning lots of mass) construction vehicle to push things in place is also a big help, when it comes to dock long or assymetric parts. The construction vehicle pulls the combined mass towards its own, allowing very acurate controlled maneuvers. -
Multiple docking ports?
Frank_G replied to Strainborm's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Take a look at my mission to Jool (link in the signature). It is not only possible to use multiple docking ports on a single ship link, it also delivers rock solid connections. And besides that... Orbital assembly is one of the most fun things to do in KSP. Good luck on your project -
Today two of my new Münar Mule Mk. I service vehicles began their mission on the Mün. Each rover can carry up to 5 kerbals in pressurized environment and can be reconfigured for different mission setups with modular trailers. Currently a science trailer is parked at the base camp. More will follow soon.
-
My new münar ground base went operational today. And the new Münar Mule Mk. I rover successfully began its tour of duty on the Mün. It can be configured for various missions, by attaching different type of trailers to it. It also features a C.L.A.W. to haul things not meant for docking. Currently two mules and one trailer are active on the Mün with more to follow soon.

What is the coolest thing you've done in KSP?
Frank_G replied to BarackOshizzle's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, those 3 missions mentioned in my signature... detailed mission reports and screenshots included. Enjoy A mission to the 5 moons of Jool and a complex constellation style mission to Duna with multiple ground bases, SSTOs and orbtial stations: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/84993-Grand-Tour-to-Jool Kerbaled mission to the surface of Eve... and back: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/93236-A-kerbaled-mission-to-Eve -
Fire and fun it was... Actually my solid rocket boosters decoupled and launched, leaving the main rocket on the pad with the above mentioned deployed parachute before tipping over. I have never encountered a game, where failing is so much fun... I guess this is, what kept me going. For almost a year now... With no end in sight

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
Frank_G replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
i already dropped a ramp into the pool... Just in case -
Well... i havent crashed or destroyed any building while flying. The only thing i destroyed was the launchpad, when i ignited an SLS rocket with 2 3.75 LFO Boosters... it just blew up at 50% throttle... just like diomedeas launch attempt. Not fair!!! However, the rocket ascended as desired and delivered everything into orbit. And i bet, we can upgrade the launchpad to a more tough version soon.
