The original 3 are special and i usually send no important mission up without at least one of them on board. However, over time, new crews have also earned their boosters... Macfried, Kurt and Ed Kerman are my next favorite 3 crew members. I wish one could assign them suits or helmets in individual colours without using mods.

I use probes for mapping purposes, as i like to play with the ScanSAT mod installed which is useful and fun. They are also essential to test out the necessary delta V needed to land on worlds, if you dont like to use the calculator too frequently. Sending a kerbaled mission will always give you more science in return and the option to react to changing mission conditions. And kerbaled missions add to the tension of the situation if you like to keep your guys alive.

I promised a complete set of pictures of my Grand Tour a few pages back... Here they are: [edit] The descriptions are for people who dont know KSP as i posted this on facebook as well. So dont wonder.

He has just arrived back home from Jool with Bill, Bob, Ed, Macfried and Kurt. Take a look here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/84993-Grand-Tour-to-Jool

I promised a complete set of pictures of my Grand Tour to Jool back in the "What did you do in KSP today?" thread. Regardless that the mission had to be aborted due to insufficiency of the lander, here they are. It was a quite fun and an experience leaving me with lots of new ideas. The album is documented for new or non KSP players, as i posted it on my facebook page as well. So do not wonder about explaining things on the pictures you all already know. Enjoy! Met a friend at a party a few hours ago and he said, i owe him 200 hours of his life-time... when i posted some KSP videos on facebook he instantly bought the game and could not get off it since then and that it is completely my fault (so HE said)... Seems like the sins have reached real life... and finally a friend who plays KSP...

While waiting on .23.5 i did a lot of crazy vehicle testing in ksp... things i usually dont do in "serious" missions. Try some new designs... take a look at Vaos´ Dragonfly for example... just do wild stuff or upgrade existing designs. Link to the Dragonfly video on youtube: Well now that i have my kerbals home safe back from the Jool mission, i will give Watchdogs some time until .24 is out. There are lots of other games out there to be played... and ksp isnt hard to get back to... its like a magnet...

And here as promised, the screenshots from the returning crew from Jool. Leaving the Jool system – Tanks away – Arriving at the Kerbin system – Preparing for aerobraking Shield and Lander separation – Good bye to the Arthur C. Kerman – Heroes home safe* – What a beautiful place to land... * No plant life was harmed by landing capsules... And now... Onward to new adventures.

I set course for home for my 6 brave kerbals, returning from their failed Grand Tour to Jool. However they have a whole load of samples and stuff on board that needs to be attended to with SCIENCE when they get home. And regardless of the grave dangers they were in, they will return with no casualties. So, the ship performed well, the outcome was lossless and they will be rewarded with a whole load of new unlocked parts... so at least i call it a partial success . I´ll post pictures of the returning craft and the landing. Maybe tomorrow.

You have radar altitude inside the pit, allowing you a landing by instruments... Works well unless you lande on a slope or hit a crater rim during horizontal deceleration
-
In january i felt lucky, getting a rocket into orbit. Now kerbaled mun landings are just everydays practice. No nodes or else needed.

Grand Tour Update (continued from page 847, 849 and 852) Well... BIG TIME FAILURE... The grand tour II to Jool has to be aborted due to an insufficient lander... When attempting to land on Tylo, Jeb and Ed aborted the descent after using up nearly half of their fuel to slow down the horizontal speed... Mission command (me) totally underestimated the power of this massive moon. Well... its a ticket home for six, yet again disappointed kerbonauts. While they are on their way back home, its back to the drawing board for me. No new launch before .24 is out. I will start a complete new career then, with the goal to construct a new ship in orbit and go on a successful grand tour then. The data i collected will help a lot, to get things right the next time. And maybe the new mission system will make me sending probes to the joolian system to get more data, before the next attempt will be undertaken.

Better too late than never... Godspeed! And Minmus has no atmosphere, so no aerobraking. You have to rely on powered braking.

After 1000+ hours of game time, I finally tried MechJeb.
Frank_G replied to Voculus's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I still use VOID for the information i want. And i like piloting my constructions manually. MechJeb is tempting and i installed it for a few weeks. But in general i stick to mods, that add no additional parts... So MechJeb lost the race. Hopefully KSP will have some more information options at some point in the future, so i can rely on KSP alone. -
Rover assembly building
Frank_G replied to LexDavis's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I dont see any needs in that. There are all necessary tools in the SPH. -
Where's KSP going?
Frank_G replied to Kerbonautical's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I tried that, but i wasnt able to reach escape velocity... My wish to stop till .24 is out lasted for about a week - then i had so many ship and mission concepts in my head, that i instantly needed to visit the VAB... Its a kurse... -
All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream Id love to have an export option in the VAB for exporting your design as a blueprint...

Those plates and iBeams withstand impacts of 80 m/s... if it landed on the roof, it is most likely to survive A LOT.

Grand Tour Update (continued from page 847 and 849) Today Kurt Kerman explored Laythe with the Spaceplane III and brought back a whole load of samples and scientific recordings from both atmosphere and surface for further analysis in the mobile processing lab. After cruising through a dense cloud soup he successfully landed on an island south of the equator and took a long walk on the surface before returning to the Arthur C. Kerman, waiting in a 75 km parking orbit. Mods used on Spaceplane III: ScanSAT and Spaceplane Plus

Need Help Aerobreaking
Frank_G replied to mbrittb00's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I recently did a successful aerobraking in Jools atmosphere. I sent a ship on a course with a periapsis of 115 km around Jool, loosing hundreds of dV and escaping unharmed. I dont use FAR and i dont use any calculator... i think, sending in some probes to test it, is the best (and most fun) way to do it. -
The grand tour starts. (continued from page 847... I´ll make a detailed thread with more pictures and info, when the mission is done) T+ 19 minutes 25 seconds - Departing Kerbin (first row of tanks jettisoned) T+ 3 years 321 days 5 hours 16 minutes – Arriving in the Jool system Point of no return - Preparing for aero-braking Jeb´s at the helm... what can go wrong, even when skimming through a green hell at 8000 m/s... Like phoenix from the ashes - Escaping Jools atmosphere Departing Jool after successful aero-braking - Arriving at Laythe - Rendezvous with the old engine core - The Arthur C. Kerman takes a sip - Good bye engine core. You may have failed your main purpose, but you served well still.

Deploying a complete duna base in just one landing. 4 kerbals landed together with 2 rovers (can combine to form a construction vehicle), kethane drill and converter, power system, science unit (can be clipped onto a rover for surface exploration), flood light tower, containers with lots of stuff to build little rovers or science stuff and an ascension vehicle, serving as a habitat as well (the middle section of the base with the 4 enginges... the sides will be jettisoned before launch). [EDIT] Mods used: Procedural Fairings - for the Aeroshell / KAS - for the containers / Infernal Robotics - for the construction crane on the rovers / Kethane - to refuel the ascension vehicle (which wasn´t necessary, there was enough fuel left to make it back into orbit) Currently i am undertaking a grand tour to the joolian system. This will be my next great achievement (hopefully )

The Arthur C. Kerman nearing its launch window for the grand tour through the joolian system...
-
Today i finished a milestone in orbital construction... A total of 18 launches were required to bring all the parts for this ship into orbit... each package designed to fit inside regular fairings (excluding only the shield) ...and dozens of hours of testing, testing, testing, docking and re-docking. The next 3 launches will bring the lander, rover, spaceplane and the six brave kerbals who will launch to Jool in 15 kerbin days. And here it is: Behold – The IPV Arthur C. Kerman. My first grand tour attempt had to be aborted after visiting only 2 of the 5 moons of Jool, due to instability in the fuel mass... a fuel line was misplaced and made maneuvering almost impossible... i had to jettison a whole load of full fuel tanks to get the guys home. The tanks are now orbiting Laythe an will serve as a refuel-depot for the upcoming mission. [EDIT] Spaceplane, Lander and Rover have arrived.
