  1. Whenever i can, i test mods. But i keep my installation as clean and as vanilla as possible and throw out installed mods every time KSP adds new stock content and features. But if you were limited to only 3 mods... which 3 would it be? And which one would you really miss? Here are mine: 1. Raster Prop Monitors: - For nice IVA flights and on-board cameras. I really love the functionality and the depth it adds without destroying the vanilla ksp experience. 2. ScanSAT: - The possibility to give real function to satellites and evaluate terrain, pick landing spots and identify anomalies is really fun and adds in a subtile but useful way to the gameplay. And it works hand in hand with Raster Prop Monitors, so you can view the scan-data in IVA when you have a link to your satellites. 3. Procedural Fairings: - Procedural Fairings are probably the most versatile procedural parts available. You can not only build different types of fairings but also improvise hull parts, aero-shells and heat-shields. Those few parts allow for wide variety of cool and creative ways to improve your ship designs. I use procedural fairings on every rocket launch and most vessels carry heat-shields, station modules and so on. And one Mod i would terribly miss, but the above are definitely the 3 of choice: Kerbal Attachement System - EVA with a purpose. Thanks for this great mod! As long as i can install more than 3 mods... this one is in the installation
  2. Jeb is currently returning from a mission to Jool, together with Ed, Macfried and Kurt Kerman... all very angry for sure, because it was planned as a Jool grand tour and the mission had to be aborted after visiting Laythe and Val due to issues with some fuel lines. They unbalanced the craft so badly, the tanks had to be jettisoned to get the IPV Kerbonov on a straight return course to kerbin... when Jeb finds out that Bill and Bob are about to launch in the new and modernized IPV Arthur C. Klarke... dont want to imagine... maybe they wave, when the ships pass each other
  3. I did not mean the mouseclicks. The thing itself is boring like hell, when you just fly a mission for maximum points and doing your standard science procedure. I find it much more pleasing and interesting to say, i want atmospheric data from Laythe and then design a thing that skims through the atmosphere instead of landing a complete science set and just click through the stuff f.e.
  4. A few days when looting science, about 3 - 6 years when actually playing the game in missions and setting personal goals. I prefer and recommend the second version for fun and real earned rewards. Looting science is like clicking monsters dead in diablo... Simply boring.
  5. Finally... i´ve been planning this for 2 months now... i finished the orbital assembly of the IPV Kerbonov 9001. It is designed for a grand tour to Jool where it will visit all moons, doing scans and especially lots of SCIENCE. The name Kerbonov 9001 is a tribute to the great story 2010 by Arthur C. Clarke. The most distinctive section of the Kerbonov is the massive 10 ton heavy heat shield, that will protect crew and ship during the aerobraking maneuver when arriving in the Jool system. It will be jettisoned later, when all critical maneuvers are completed. The Kerbonov features a command section - a MK1-2 command pod which also holds the heat shield, a habitat section with a hitchhiker module and a lab section with a mobile processing lab. It will carry 3 brave kerbals on its mission, with lots of spare room, so they feel comfortable on their long journey. The spine of the ship is constructed around an FL-T800 fuel tank, with lots of antennae, scientific equipment and RCS fuel tanks. Docked to the dorsal side of the ship, you can see the Scarab lander and the Locust rover, i posted earlier last month on the forums. Scarab will be able to pick up Locust and carry it back to orbit, so the dynamic duo will see more than just one moon of Jool. In the picture below, you see the winning shot of a successful test run on the Mün. Launch is scheduled for tomorrow. Today the crew will launch in an OSV bringing along some equipment in containers, that will help keep the mission running. The containers hold lots of spare parts like solar panels, electric generators, struts, struts, struts and some parts to construct a rover on site, if the Locust Rover is lost somehow. Below you see the crew transfer vehicle standing by for launch. Kurt, Macfried and Ed Kerman are confident, that everything will go well. This will be my first kerbaled mission to the joolian system... Godspeed!
  6. You know you play too much KSP when your friends yell at you something like "I said lunch, not launch"... You know your girlfriend plays too much KSP, when you come home late from a party and yellow sticker on the fridge says "I ate all the snacks..."
  7. I do, but mostley when there is a specific task, like building a space station or launch a series of satellites, where every component is roughly around the same weight and size. On the other hand i like to build stuff in KSP... f.e. i construct a new lander for every mission, because it is most fun to see your own creations advance from launch to launch.
  8. We have the asteroid thingy. .24 got delayed, because something big is coming. Squad wanted to make things crisp before releasing the next update. Just read the actual Developer Tuesday Article. And welcome back!
  9. I think, kerbals spend a lot of time watching the stars and dream about going to space... just like we do... and as they seem to have nothing to care about but how to fulfill their dreams... motivation is not a real question. The question is, how to keep them from trying to blast off into space in a rigged toaster wearing a backpack with snacks and juice-boxes as supply for a trip to duna...
  10. I saw this, this afternoon on gizmag and was stunned... This is such an awesome design. What really was most surprising is, that this design is actually done by NASA... maybe we will be granted a glimpse into interstellar travel in this lifetime... hmmmmm
  11. Oh man, how could i forget in my last post... some good old IDM... Access to Arasaka (for all you old school pen & paper rpg players, yes - that arasaka is meant ) <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/C1bJugdBmqI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And of course... Geomatic with their fabulous album 64 lightyears away... awesome in every aspect <iframe width="480" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/dKmwRle-FVQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Stendeck is an awesome band as well... spherical soundscapes meet nice dancable baselines (no oomz oomz... for those who fear) <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/cNYP8jp3MHc?list=RDcNYP8jp3MHc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> All 3 bands are under contract of Tympanik Audio... search them on youtube for more of this awesome sound Enjoy!
  12. I deorbited a kerbaled command pod, returning from Duna with only internal RCS of the capsule left for the maneuver. It took three aerobreaking rounds around kerbin to finally stay within the atmosphere and make it to the surface. Good i did not forget the RCS thrusters... which i am very good at usually
  13. please dont... Please!!!! Cant stand... Must... Hnnnnn...
  14. What about something really crazy.... Like skipping .25 and focus on .26 directly? That would be awesome!
  15. So awesome... i bought the cd back in the early 90th... and i saw them live last year.
  16. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TlBIQqIPaGg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  17. I fiddled around in the VAB to build a new scanSAT mapping satellite but did not got far... so i searched youtube for some inspiration and stumbled upon this great documentation which i could not resist to watch. Informative and lots of nice real and animated video material accompanied by a nice soundtrack and nice narrator. I strongly recommend to take a look, as xenon gas powered engines are explained. The whole thing feels like watching real life KSP (no Jeb though). http://youtu.be/4tA-3ghPUKA
  18. Hmmm... i could think of at least one or two things i would like to do more than cutting a movie into pieces and sort em... really at least one or two...
  19. I am in general a no-mod player with almost any game. But for KSP there are some not only useful but a lot of feel-good mods around. And some of them really integrate and add to the experience instead of destroying the game feeling. However i throw out mods, as KSP develops further and new features and parts are added. Some mods i can recommend are RasterPropMonitors for nice IVA flight, Environmental Visual Enhancemet and Active Texture Management for nice cloud effects and ScanSat for the abilty to do terrain scans and create planetary maps from orbit. Test them and enjoy. They wont kill the vanilla KSP experience and add to the gameplay in a good way.
  20. You call Whackjob a noob? You know you are a noob in KSP when you think that delta v is some mysterious engine stuff thingie.
  21. Dann mal herzlich willkommen! This forum is the nicest online community i´ve ever encountered. You´ll feel right at home with just a handful of posts. Lets launch some rockets!
