  1. 40. We shall fight on the thirties, we shall fight on the fourties, we shall fight in the fifties and in the sixties, we shall fight in the seventies, we shall shamelessly rip off Churchill, we shall never surrender.
  2. Tintin flies to the island. One day he might fly to the Mun. Making something that looks like the classic cartoon rocket and flies like a plane took me way too long. The fins are a bit fat, but better to have too much wing than too little.
  3. A challenge that's based mainly on some sort of metric becomes an optimisation challenge. Whether that's good or bad is subjective. As for luggage. I think the only extent I'd use it would be to say that designs using external seats need to provide cargo space. For designs using crew cabins, those cabins can be assumed to have plenty of luggage space. It's desirable that external seat versus cabin be balanced.
  4. If you wanted to keep it as a primarily-judged challenge, it might be an idea to say that entrants must judge two previous submissions for each entry of their own. While different entrants might not have very comparable reviewing, with a bit of momentum we'd hopefully get a "wisdom of the crowds". Alternatively you could go over to using objective measures. Cost, capacity, range, speed, and fuel burn are all straight from the game. Perhaps by using stock craft and the real-life airline business as a reference point we could make some sort of an operating costs estimate.
  5. Very nicely demonstrated by AllenLi. On the general topic. All parts that produces drag will also produce lift if they have a non-zero angle of attack. (In KSP and in real life). The non-wing parts just have a really lousy lift-to-drag ratio, and usually a bad lift-to-mass ratio too. Selected parts produce "wing lift" which gives them a better L/D ratio. They include the wings (dur), control surfaces, and Mk2 parts. They will show a lift value in the part information window on the left in the VAB/SPH.
  6. I'll wait for reviews. I'm not too worried about the core gameplay, but I need to see a game that's free of serious bugs and will run acceptably on my PC. I'd also prefer it to run well on Linux, whether that's using Proton or a native port. If the game's good it's worth AAA pricing, though I might begrudge it a little. If the game's no good it's not worth any price.
