  1. I think it can land without the chutes, but yes it uses some. The rover lands too, and Might manage without chutes. Orbit was around 70-100km. The lander has ejectable fuel tanks if needed, but had more than enough fuel to make [edit] Zenith, the upgraded upgrade version of the upgrade is now up and running. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/39160-Zenith-Duna-transport-interplanetary-ship?p=500775#post500775 80 parts including launch towers!
  2. Yeah, it's large for a Kerbal, not necessarily for KSP. But I wanted to make it as big as possible without overdoing the part count. Will refine it a bit (drop my rovers etc) and up the craft file for others. The next project is even lower part count, and has a launcher all in at under 100 parts... just got to figure out landing on duna with the Habitats right side up...
  3. I'm guessing smoothing on the polys/edges. You need to set the bottom/top as "hard/sharp". A workaround is to separate the end caps to force sharpness (in some instances). What editing/modelling software are you using?
  4. Managed to return them in the Collosus 1, turns out they dropped the Collusus 0.5 and 2 in Sol orbit... think I might bill them for that! Not to worry, the new project "Titan" is being constructed. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/36206-Titan-Huge-%28but-under-150-parts%29-interstellat-craft?p=456499#post456499
  5. After the somewhat technically successful "Colossus" project(s), the Kerbals decided to try for an upgrade. With more power, more DV, more landers/rovers but slightly less "wobbly". The project kept the requirements of reduced part count, re-usability and reconfigurability all in one interplanetary craft. Built in orbit, through around 8 or so launches, they finished "Titan". With 1 multipurpose tug/engine/lander unit. 1 atmospheric re-usable lander. 1 Planetary base pod/orbital observatory. 1 large rover. 1 ion probe/solar antenna. 1 RCS powered EVA sled. And four fuel tanks providing OVER 10K DeltaV!!! Even the engines on the tug can decouple should they be required to. The docking video is a flyby of the craft, from the return from Duna (did around 3 landings/returns I think, refueling from orbit each time ).
  6. Nice, congrats. Hope the mod goes well. Very nice, and hopefully a start to some really in depth adaptable parts.
  7. Could you make the 2 ion engines into 2 ion engine "groups"? So as to improve thrust?
  8. Same here, though mine is a "unlocked" 955 (really a 720 IIRC) and the game still works well.
  9. Also to KasperVid. Thanks for the heads up. Had already backuped just in case, but will hold off till 0.20.2 to upgrade then. I've got a temporary fix for "spontaneous self destruction" bugs, so can do without the upgrade for another day or two.
  10. No, just docking. As long as you far enough out that you can show your piloting.
  11. Lol, I could do that in orbit but probably not during a burn. Some of my contraptions are down to 2 rcs groups. I'm currently thinking of dropping it to 1 RCS or RCS group to lower the part counts even further.
  12. Here is my attempt... Dock successfully with internal view only and no GUI = +10 Awesome points Cockpit facing the wrong way! = +5 Awesome points Dock with an unbalanced RCS/ship = +4 Awesome points Align correctly = +3 Awesome points Dock on first attempt (Overshoots allowed, but no "bouncing" off the station) = +2 Awesome points Smash up the station in your attempts = +1 Awesome point Points also awarded for: No SAS/ASAS = + 1 Regular point No RCS = + 1 Regular point I'd rate my attempt at 24 on the Awesome scale. So how will you get on?
  13. That makes my attempt sound better. Thanks. The Kerbals got to their destination with 2 spare tanks of fuel after all. I knew bringing extra was worth it.
  14. Could not figure out why I could not hit Duna after my main burn... turns out I keep getting intercepted by the Mun... get out of my way! Not sure how much Dv I've lost to it, but I'm now attempting a second burn, but I'll have to wait for another window (as I've missed this one by too far). Have you had any planets or moons get in your way?
  15. Hmmm. Is one of the docking pods on backwards? that's all I can think of.
  16. Kerbal branded air and water rockets!
  17. It will have to be part of my designs for aerobraking interstellar craft. Will have to think it through, but should be possible.
  18. After finishing the mega project named "Titan", the Kerbs drop off the last bit of fuel before attempting to fly it to Duna.
  19. Well, the rescue craft ran out of fuel too! It had just enough for a careful rendezvous with the orbiter though. The Colossus V2 is on the way now with hopefully at least 1 fuel tank worth of fuel.
  20. Ah ok, if that's all, I'll make do with oranges. My mega project needs 1 more orange tank and it's good to go.
  21. Nice. Can I ask a question though. Why the small white tanks? Are the orange ones no good for some reason?
  22. Thanks! About to attempt some planned concurrent missions, so will be a real help. Especially as my original lander, the prototype recovery and now the upgraded version are all on Moho recovering the stranded crew. As they have 1 lander each, I've decided to give them a race back to kerbin!
