You know i just realized that we are really close to the release of The Martian. I mean October 2nd is less than a month away. So I would like to jump start the discussion to the book readers. What absolutely needs to be in the movie? They can cut everything else out what absolutely needs to be in the movie? Kinda a similar question but what are you looking forward most to seeing on the big screen. For me honestly I am just happy to 1) Go to the movies and not see a huge superhero summer blockbuster. 2) See a movie that is 100% derivative of earlier movies. 3) a remake of a cherished childhood movie. 4) The conclusion of a series of movies that just has to be split into two. The martian is the answer to all of those things. As I said there is a reason hollywood sunk its teeth into the martian. In many ways its a unique movie. Obviously the stranded alone idea has been done but this the martian is a hugely optmistic book. Watney never gives up. The human race unites around him. Even the idea of us visiting and exploring mars is hugely optimistic. So that is what I am really just excited to see. Even if the movie isn't that great there is always the book. I am just happy its something different. I suppose to answer my own questions from above. I am really looking forward to seeing all of the space infrastructure. The hermes, the rovers, the mav, the hab, the suits, etc. It should all look wonderful. Also say what you want about movies like Prometheus, even though the story wasn't all that great. It was a gorgeous movie. All of Ridley Scotts movies are beautiful to look at, along with the props, and practical effects. So even if it sucks, at the very least will look beautiful.

The last iteration of the CSS during the ascent there was a noticeable click or pop coming from the SSMEs. This comes from an improper sound loop. This loop is cleaned up and it removes the clicking noise every 7 seconds. Also I can do more than sound. No I understand. You guys asked for references at the end and I just wanted to add Mike to my references because of what I was doing for him before. But its definitely good to have an explanation here and you should probably put it in the OP so all you have to say is "the explanation is in the OP" if anyone asks again.

I did my application too. Mike-nz can be a refernce too, I redid the ssme sounds for him and I was testing and doing the sounds for the x-15 for him.

I totally understand your concerns. However you could preface the series with a warning that your infrastructure is based on your interpretation or imagining of the book. Honestly it would be fantastic to see your replicas from the movie AND it would be fantastic to see what you could do with your imagination. Also an RSS version would be different from anything else that might exist or will exist. Let's be honest people are gonna make stock kerbal versions of the Martian. No one does RSS series like you. So maybe do a poll and put out feelers because I guarantee KSP fans that have read the Martian want to see YOUR interpretation. Of course it's all up to you. You have to want to do it. But if you think that people won't watch because of the movie coming out.....trust me people will watch.

Honestly Bob if you get bored.....seriously I think it would be great timing in terms of views and it would most likely be great fun for you and us all if you did A Martian series.

This thread has evolved quite a bit. It really was meant to be a discussion thread about the book but honestly how could we not talk about the movie. It really does look like its going to be great. I think maybe this should be a general discussion thread about the book and movie. Once the the movie comes out people aren't gonna want to talk about the book. So I suppose it will be both.

At a high resolution the game lags or doesn't load. If you lower the resolution you can play with more mods. Sacrificing graphics quality of game play. I only lower by one just so I can enjoy the game looking good while being able to play with a moderate amount of mods. I've seen people lower the texture resolution and rendering down to a point where it looks like a Commodore 64. But you can get more bang for your buck mod wise of you lower the resolution and texture settings.

Will FASA has some nova parts. I suppose a dive in to the Apollo Applications Program would be really interesting.

Sadly I can't play at a higher resolution to play with the mods that want to play with. Is there any other way to fix this?

You do all realize that with the exception of the Ares-1 the SLS program is essentially the Constellation program. Honestly many people are skeptical about the SLS I however really do believe in it. I mean I have had the NASA Kool-Aid hundreds of times over. I am a true fan boy. However the SLS program is essentially the same program. The goal with the SLS is an eventual voyage to Mars. Although cool looking placing a manned capsule on top of a SRB was crazy. I can't honestly imagine sitting on top of a SRB. But the capsule that was supposed to go on top was the Orion and they are way to far into developing that to just cancel it. Constellation=SLS different name with alot of changes, and longer timeline still the same end game with with essentially the same means.
