Ever have a Kerbal just stand there, dazed?
RW-1 replied to tater's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Now there is the standard Kerbal answer - just hit him with something and he'll work! -
Use of Space Stations & Probes
RW-1 replied to EnderSpace's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Science - if a science module is placed in orbit around a planet of exploration - you can renew experiments to go to multiple locations and redock, etc. Cool looking factor as well. Probes - have to have your science instruments to really make work, but lighter to launch and send out to the other areas of the Kerbin System for points. We do need a Kerbal version of the Gecko Experiment, without it's conclusion of course. -
To me, saves and quick saves, nothing like being in the middle of a mission that went awry, for most of us that is due to ourselves However deciding to then hit F9 and find I'm taken via WABAC to a period three missions before just kills it for me - current mission I was on gone, but the ship i designed is still there in the VAB, but with non authorized parts because I'm set back before I unlocked the tech tree node, etc. My second peeve is the staging order getting skewed when adding a subassembly, or even (to me) when building out a set of stages, sometimes the engines get "placed" higher up in the order then the current stage level I'm currently adding to ... (I hope those who have more time in the game know what I'm saying here.) Overall though, I love the game. I may get even less time to play in the future - my gals have put their feet down and we're getting a dog, we all know who's going to end up entertaining the pup. Hmm, pupnik one ... but without the Gecko drama or conclusion, there's an idea!

Yes, I meant the adjustment handles, likely i was using an edge on view earlier to get them in sight. And I agree, the mouse wheel is still a bit sensitive/buggy. I'll look at precise node as well, though lately I've just been playing stock.

I know if you select a planet and plan an intercept, once the plotted course is set in the SOI of the planet, you can tab to the planet and see that intercept and then tweak it, which I thought was excellent. I've forgotten HOW I can tweak it, as when I tab to the planet I lose the maneuver options, etc. Just brain fade here, can someone re-tutorial me? Thanks.

Unload 90% of the solid fuel to make it lighter, and if necessary limit thrust to 5-10% so when lit off it doesn't throw you off course.

Hehehe, mine was saving gamedata before switching to x64, but not the saves folder - all earlier progress, my stations around Kerbin, Mun, Minimus - gone. I had seen earlier that my saves were in fact converted to the new career mode, but on second launch of the program it was not running, so I wanted to do a fresh install. My bad there. But all in all so far it's a lot of fun trying the contracts and getting myself up in the tech tree again! Questions: Funds and buying parts, not yet implemented? I can unlock nodes, but not yet purchase parts needed but not researched? Or are they placeholders to indicate how much of your available funds will be used if implemented when unlocked? Declining contracts - I would believe that might impact your status, but can we get clarification on it? IOW, if a contract is declined, how might that affect new contract generation from that company, or in general towards you? Lastly, I'm noticing that to stage it seems I have to hit spacebar twice, investigating on my end, only mod installed is the enhanced navball. Running the 0.24x64.

Perhaps the real KSP folders are blurred and you ARE looking at his p0rn folders, cleverly disguised.

Hey LD, thanks for answering. I'll let the launcher update the current install, then look in the directory to see what I get. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Hi gang, I'm overthinking this I suppose.... Ok, I DL'd both the 32 and 64 installers to have them ready for use later this afternoon when I return to domicile. Of course my current install is x32 on windows, and I can upgrade that one. Is my supposition correct that I wouldn't be able to upgrade that one to x64 and keep my saves that I had there? If a procedure is warranted to do so, please share hehehe. I'm not that concerned if I lose stuff, but I have several stations around Kerbin, Mun and Minimus. I'm likely to begin a science career anyways to try out contracts, but wanted to ask the best way to approach this "upgrade" Thanks beforehand as always, and of course; play safe, stay safe.

My congratulations to the entire KSP Dev Team! I'll be grabbing later today, I'm sure that you guys have earned a weekend of rest and relaxation for all the hard work you have done thus far.

When you finally get near to that asteroid, separate from your delivery stage, wait a few moments, then flip and burn in the opposite direction to match speeds and come back and hit your delivery stage destroying the ship ... (Capsule now on escape trajectory from Kerbin, likely into a Kerbolcentric Orbit)

I'm curious, while equipped with super draco thrusters for landing, just how much room for fuel will be in the capsule? I'm wondering how much would be needed as they say it will decelerate and then maneuver to land where ever it is targeted. The chutes are a backup. I just don't see how they'll carry enough fuel for that, the empty pressurized cargo bay would be discarded before re-entry, so it can't be there ...

This, though if it doesn't suffice, then precise node is an option. drag it out to hit SOI, focus on planet and adjust, neat to see as well IMHO. - - - Updated - - - This, though if it doesn't suffice, then precise node is an option. drag it out to hit SOI, focus on planet and adjust, neat to see as well IMHO.

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
RW-1 replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Wouldn't be the first time someone upgraded a system just to play a particular game. When "Descent 3" came out, many didn't have 3DFX Graphics cards, myself included, at that point a new MB was in order to go with the bus for the card, and a new processor to go with the new MB, and RAM, and .... XP to run it all vice '98SE ... -
I've always appeared cute, but was never described as "Tiny" by the women ..... Wouldn't the explosive force of an asteroid also be in part due to its composition? Maybe some of ours are composed of light grey Styrofoam ...

Last night, decided to create a small disposable probe, could either transmit science or await removal by a kerbalnaut. Launched, the looked at what had options for, dres looked favorable, matched orbits and had an intercept planned into SOI. Coming up on node ... Can't move ... Argh. Kerbol angles. Booster blocked solar panels from charging. All was not lost, if I wanted to stay in Kerbol orbit and await re-charging. Terminated it though. Ahh, the fun and relaxation. I currently now have: Stations around Kerbin, Mun and Minimus. A lander with rover on the mun. Other lander is docked at Minimus Station One.

I was just about to chime in on that as well, but having a properly configured SSD might get that faster - (most of these tips are for OS setup when you get an SSD, to ensure windows behaves with it - Latest firmware for the SSD ACHI mode for the controller Reset the drive if possible (Typically) a clean OS install to the drive

I had three in orbit around minimus once, the forth was called home plate.

After you separate, my guess is.... that you were still focused on your other ship or you didn't re-designate where to control your lander from ... I'm not saying you have to but if we had a pic of both we could tell easily. Try this, separate, then use [ and ] to switch, and when on your lander, select it's docking port right click and choose to control from here. I believe that should take care of your naviball and control issue. It really comes down to making sure you are on your ship, and selecting the end for control that you want. If not, please elaborate for the group, and we can go from there. I'm certain others will chime in here as well.

Over the last couple of days, I - Sent a lander up and over to Munar Station One, forgot batteries on this one while staging, but decided we'll do major ops in daylight Sent the core for Minimus Station One to Minimus. On this one, I must have switched to target vice orbit just when doing my MOI, and ended up luckily in a polar inclined orbit. While nice for science, I would have preferred a more equatorial orbit. That said though, the tug I put with it has RCS, but also one ION engine and 12 tanks of xenon, so I'm sure I can nudge it back to equatorial if need be.

Another idiot who can't dock.
RW-1 replied to King_Gus_Man's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Only one thing I see missing here for a complete docking, add step 5.5 (Actually could eb anytime, but easier when you are in range) - click on target docking port and select as target. -
Design a grapple ship, grab from opposite end, deliver it back to Kerbin and drop from 10-20M, ladder should break and hopefully the container will be ok (Experiment with the right height), and then roll it if needed and Jeb can exit? You have nothing to lose at the moment giving it a shot.

How to design a Skycrane?
