  1. im shocked that the thing worked, at least the 1/3 scale model of thing.
  2. idk what he is doing anymore. he has been in 3 low budget scifi movies in recent years. after watching the first one i decided not to watch the others. they are that bad.
  3. i was all kinds of distracted yesterday. that was supposed to be a sin() i even edited it, but i guess i didnt post the corrections, will do now. i usually break out a quaternion or matrix when i want to rotate something. eulers introduce all kinds of gimbal lock. im also not as familiar with orbital reference frames as i should be.
  4. ignore my previous post, that was for 2d. i had to go do something and had to finish it up in a hurry, not to mention i had a cat in the way and i didn't have time to test it. x = sin(heading)*cos(pitch)y = cos(heading)*cos(pitch) z = cos(pitch) z = sin(pitch) ignore the sine and cosine being reversed, i think im using a different handedness. this will convert heading and pitch to a unit vector indicating direction, then multiply that by magnitude to get velocity.
  5. be sure to convert degrees to radians and vise versa as needed. most trig functions operate on radians. also a vector cannot have a negative magnitude. so if you get one you might have a problem. you need to compute each component separately. x = sin(heading) y = cos(heading) i want to say z would be the sine of the pitch but im not 100% sure right now.
  6. then i would advise them to take whatever precautions they can to stay safe.
  7. anti-vaxxer, no. but im done with masking. its not my job to protect people who wont protect themselves.
  8. i got my booster. all 3 shots have been moderna. i think the nurse said it was a baby dose. the shot seems to have had different side effects every time. first time hardly anything, second time i slept for 2 days, this time my arm is a little sore. now looking at the 4th blank space on my vax card.
  9. i feel like ive seen this movie before.
  10. the music takes up too much of the audio bandwidth, and they compressed the hell out of it to the point where it kind of sounds flat and loud. its the same problem with almost all popular music today. did they autotune the choir? it could have been great but i think they took too many shortcuts in the mixing. its too digital and it doesnt fit in a universe that has banned computers. of course i haven't seen it in the theatre yet so it may sound better than the stream. i mean its a small nitpick of a great film. the other problem is rebecca ferguson. she just doesn't know how to speak up! its like shes trying to whisper over a cacophony.
  11. seems like movies drop seemingly random now. and usually before i hear about them. i recently discovered that they fixed the equipment failure at the local theater and dune is now on the list, in 3 weeks. makes me somewhat regret jumping the gun and watching it on streaming. but its not like i don't know what was going to happen. ive read the book, twice, listened to the audio book, and watched every conceivable permutation of lynch dune (this movie has an absurdly large number of cuts and fan edits) and the miniseries and i was able to casually predict the next line of dialog in at least 9 places.
  12. its a hold over from another game community which was in turn a hold over from earlier times. honestly ive long sense retired it. does make it convenient for a certain beneath the planet of the apes reference.
  13. i imagine they read like an engineering manual.
  14. unless you want to go through the process of de-soldering all the dram chips. i do not recommend it. ive actually done this before all the ram chips went leadless packages (i can handle tqfps pretty well), i needed some memory for an fpga project.
  15. its amazing how many fields in which this is a useful technique. we still haven't done proton decay.
  16. i use the coleman propane canisters all the time. they are well built and never had one do anything weird. though the regulator that came with my cheep bbq grill tends to freeze up from time to time with a new canister. one time i tried to thaw it out by dumping a glass of hot water on it, and the mass release of liquid propane into the lit grill this caused was rather explosive. the grill contained it.
  17. ive more than once gone fishing caught a couple small (at least by alaskan standards) fish and just built a camp fire by the water side and cooked em on the spot. find a couple natural y branches, stick em in the ground at either side of the fire. grab a strong stick and strip off the bark (brownie points if you know what woods make your food taste better). clean the fish in the usual way (split the belly, remove the organs, take the head and tail off. a fish cleaned in this way will easily straddle the cleaned stick, simply place it over the fire using the y sticks. use the cook time to clean and stow your fishing gear. you can also eat foods that need no cooking. hot dogs and outer saussages are usually safe to eat right out of the package, as is anything canned. i once disgusted my sister by eating corned beef hash right out of the can without heating it. most canned goods can also be heated directly in fire provided you open them first (my sister once burned herself pretty badly by opening a can of beans that was sitting on the wood stove, she didnt understand how heat and pressure are related). if a can opener is used i usually open the can about 60-75% but leave the lid attached. with pull tops you can kind of leave it half on. when done you should take it out of the fire and let it settle for a couple minutes before opening the rest of the can. use of a pot holder or tongs is highly recommended. i cant imagine it would be too much of an issue to have a propane stove in your trunk. just pull over at a rest stop and cook right out the back of your car. cooking while on the move is bad. source.

its very watchable thus far. but i dont know how it will hold up. its a show that is going to need to jump around a lot in time, possibly every season or a couple times a season. whether or not its good in the long run really depends on how well it handles the time jumps. especially if those jumps cause a lot of cast rotations. i find shows with a lot of cast changeups to be rather tedious to watch. its part of the reason why the walking dead and its spinoffs have become kind of pointless for me, i still watch them, but its not something il watch a second time (meanwhile ive watched the expanse at least 4 or 5 times). game of thrones was also hard to watch due to cast rotations (nobody had plot armor in that one) and will not be watched a second time, nor will i care about its spinoffs (i only watched it because scifi tv was kind of in a drought when it came out). i worry foundation is going to have a really good first season and then drop the ball in subsequent seasons (got did this in a bad way).
  19. its an old trucker thing. a frozen burrito wrapped in tinfoil is probibly ok to sit in the engine compartment for a few miles. provided your engine compartment isn't oozing oil or antifreeze.
  20. depends on whether or not your car has a sunroof. or do it the redneck way and cook your food right on the engine. and frankly something like 75% of the energy that goes into your engine is waste heat. use it, its good for the environment.
  21. everyone trying to capitalize on the hype that is not their own. idk how that became a business model. maybe put that money into something original instead? i guess there have always been b movies, but seriously, classic b movies are better than this drivel. i also watched star trek prodigy, it was not terrible. though i wish they would have saved the caitian kitten. the only thing that i didnt like about it was that they brought back the kazon, worst star trek villain ever. star trek picard kind of hinted that the borg went and ravaged the delta quadrant after voyager went through it, so it definitely needs more borg. though the general grevious that has been taken over by hal 9000 was pretty good.
  22. when i mean sealed i mean they are usually a continuous tunnel that never touch any of the electronics from the inside (thermal interface is usually through a heat pipe or vapor chamber), so its pretty safe to vacuum or blow out so long as you take care not to damage the fans. static is really not an issue if you have the laptop grounded (just plug it, the cooling unit is usually grounded internally). like i said check the service manuals to make sure the geometry is what you think it is. last laptop i owned went tango uniform literally a week after the warranty expired. when i opened it up to see if i could fix it, it was alarmingly clean, never did find the cause of death. the battery was good and every part i salvaged was functional, including the cpu. i really didnt want to shell out for a new mobo.
  23. i think this is my only issue with kerbals. if you have ever made a cockpit or command pod mod, you know how awkward it can be to design a cockpit for short creatures with big heads. still you could have my kerbals when you pry them out of my cold dead hands burning space debris.
  24. never owned a laptop that didnt eventually cook itself off at some point. the thermodynamic margins are so thin on these things that any degradation in performance from the heat management system can be lethal to the machine. virus, ha! it was probibly a windows update. and my virus scanner acts more like a virus than my eth miner. a lot of these coolers are sealed end to end for compactness and ease of cleaning. i dont think it would hurt it too much. i recommend going in through the exhaust side to reduce the risk of damaging the fans. do check any documentation you can find for your laptop, try to find a service manual.
  25. i gave in and watched dune on streaming, i have no idea if or when we will get it on the big screen. i think it was trimmed down a little bit more in editing than it should have been. especially disappointed that we didnt get the scene where jessica smacks duncan around after he comes back drunk on spice beer. after 3 adaptations i think we should have got this by now.
