KSP Interstellar Extended Continued Development Thread
raxo2222 replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Ah so fluid traveling between generator and radiator is compressed when entering radiator and decompressed when entering back to generator. This means huge pressures and temperature variations if fluid can have 4400 K just before entering radiator. How pipes don't crack and burst from those temperatures and pressures? There is thermal expansion if stuff gets hot. Is graphene that heat resistant? I think pipes carrying fluids, that are 1000 - 4400 K hot would have to be made with graphene and ceramics. Pipes in current powerplants even don't get to see 1000 K hot fluids. -

@FreeThinker I broke physics - radiators are hotter than reactor core. -
What are mods with bigger docking parts?

Minor nitpick: Radiator glow is tied to wasteheat not its temperature. 800K hot radiator should be barely visible in space. FAR is crazy with 5m Magnetic Scoop. -

You forgot to upload version for 1.4.5 :p Unless Curseforge is THAT slow. -
Rescaleable docking parts would be very nice.

Could be fault of KJR How do I take magnetic scoop with spaceplane? It can't be scaled down below 2.5m Best spaceplane would have ARCJET engines for hovering on planets without atmosphere, thermal fusion engines with thermal turbojets for dense atmosphere (Highest thrust per MW), plasma engine with antimatter or antimatter initiated fusion reactor (Good thrust, ISP and wasteheat efficiency) and fusion engine , that has highest ISP (Low thrust but can do beelines from planet to planet). Unless it isn't possible and at best you would have mothership capable of shooting trough solar system in straight lines and spaceplane lander capable of hovering, traveling in dense atmosphere and ascent to orbit from gas giants. -

It appears Antimatter Initiated Fusion reactor produces only 50% of max power when connected to charged particles generator. Still its most compact way to get 8 GW of electricity in 2.5m radius package. -

Ah so wakefield isn't for lower atmosphere. Basically I have to climb out to 25 - 30 km for graphene radiators to be effective. Wakefield for full thrust needs 30 GW, but my setup provides only 16 GW of power or so - Antimatter Fusion is most energy dense reactor not counting antimatter ones. I added two thermal turbojets with thermal fusion engines on wing tips and moved atmospheric collector to bottom - I used procedual parts for connecting things. -

It appears WAKEFIELD is completely nonviable for atmospheric planets. My spacecraft overheats very easily with 2.5m Antimatter Initiated reactor, Charged Particles Generator and Wakefield engine. https://www.dropbox.com/s/grw6zxhz2oudvss/A Spaceplane.craft?dl=0 -

Weird that no one reported this earlier.... Is no one flying spaceplaces with DR and RSS? Thanks on fix.- 5,919 replies

No idea what I'm doing wrong, but its too easy to melt gears. I use RSS, FAR, KSP Interstellar Extended among with other smaller mods. For example Extra Large Gear has internal/skin max temperature of 1073/1353 K. Maybe I should reinstall DR and scrap current sandbox scenario, that I use for tests. That is somehow temsp are incorrect.. And temperature limits are unchanged. There could be upgrade tech, that increases max skin temperature, so fat heavy nuclear space planes wouldn't melt too easily their undersides. Changed temp limit to 4400 K (KSP Interstellar likes hot thing) and scale limit to 1 Now max skin temp of gears is 2300 K.- 5,919 replies

To be honest I forgot, that Dropbox exists :p I play with Deadly Reentry, it might nerf too much some parts -

I meant I wanted to show you craft, so you can see its hard to get out of atmosphere like spaceplane. -

Cool, I mean hot :p I think there should be tech, that increases maximum skin/internal temperature. My 40 something ton craft lost gears and then precooler while climbing out of atmosphere. It uses plasma engine along with high temperature thermal fusion reactor, so I can use atmospheric nitrogen as fuel. TWR is around 1 at >20 km Here is craft (link expires in week): https://we.tl/t-S8Y37d07XG What is proper uploading site, that doesn't display ads and doesn't make antiviruses screech? -

@FreeThinker Goddamnit with broken forum tagging. I noticed, that radiators can have temperature up to 4400 K How they simply don't evaporate at this temperature? -

Looks like this mod isn't compatible with Adanced Jet Engines - it seems to remove IntakeAtm resource, that is used by KSP Interstellar. -

Yes, if you are using electricity from reactor - otherwise if reactor, that produces charged and thermal energy had no thermal generator, thermal energy would be wasted. On other hand charged particles if unused can be used by thermal engines as thermal engine. -

If it can't handle 5000 patches, then it can't handle this mods complexity -

I know, I meant which one is better at producing electricity. Why beam core one can't be used with MHD, but just with normal thermal generator? -

raxo2222 replied to FreeThinker's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
If I want antimatter reactor to produce electricity, then I should use positron antimatter reactor, right? Also magnetic scoop is very useful for feeding QSR, as it produces antiprotons effectively. Or just use both antimatter reactors. As for engine mach effect one sounds good, -

Just antiprotons, or positrons too? -
Technically for now surface of sun is like core of sun.
