What is your biggest science pet peeve in movies?
Hary R replied to todofwar's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I was watching fast and furious 6 the other night, and yes it far from being a scientifically accurate movie but one thing bugs me (more than anything else), at the very end the final chase on the runway, an Antonov 225 landed, pick up the villain while still moving, and tooke off. The chase lasted 15 minute or so long. Tell me, how long was that runway???. Come on, chasing a plane at near takeoff speed for more than 15 minutes. How long do you think a runway is in real life Hollywood. Well, someone looked into it and gives 28,75 miles long or 45 Km for metric people. Funny thing is, they were at the end of the runway when the chase ended. -
1.1 is seriously bugged, but comes it as a surprise...

Quot of the plote from wiki: Is that the one you are talking about, i'm laughing just by reading this. -
If you are still playing it, you are not in the hate category but not being in the hate category doesn't mean you are in the fan boy category. The thing is the kind of reply the OP gets was expected. Most people are here because they find enjoyment with the game and want to share it.

Well your're in the KSP forum, what kind of people did you expect here, people that hate the game? Seriously, you are new to the game and you didn't went through all of what we "older" player have seen, especial the "release of 1.0", when it become full price but was crippled by bugs. We endured it because we knew that this game was worth it. And you arrived at a very special time, a change in the game engine which mean, a lot of new bug. The bug you are complaining is a known one and I've seen worst in older version. It will be fixed Finally, don't think that we are just a bunch of nerd fan boy that try to destroy every non fan that don't like the game, no the KSP community is not like that. Oh and by the way, if you don't know, for the price, your game will be updated for free until Squad decide to stop the update, nothing like that have been heard up until now. I think it's worth noting.

What is your biggest science pet peeve in movies?

- Ask the witless elders in public transport - the same that yell into their phones as if it was a phone made with cans and a line .. Well yeah, It just annoys me that in every movie a touchscreen need make a sound and no one find it annoying. I've recently watched a movie that have this trope but show a window with a command line in it and I was like "finally". It was just a little window in a wide variety of windows showing picture, report and videos but that little detail explained all the taping. -

I don't remember fully to, maybe you are right but still he did it through wireless connection... on a flash drive. Spy don't put your data on that device it can be remotely wiped. -

Here is something that make me go "that doesn't make sense" a bit, in the last Impossible Mission (rogue nation), at some point a British agent is meeting with her boss, she gave him an USB flash drive with valuable and he tricked her by literal sucking all the data into his phone thought wireless connection. My problem was not if a flash drive is equipped with a wireless connection (why not), my problem is why did a spy put some very valuable data on such a vulnerable device? -

Hary R replied to todofwar's topic in Science & Spaceflight
This one don't really bothers me but still pretty stupid: if someone fall, if you just stop him abruptly (superman catching Lois in mid air or a rope that stop the hero a few centimeters from the ground), chance are you just applied the same amount of force as if that someone actually hit the ground. in the same style, in any sword fight, any expendable will die as soon as a blade touch them but the hero or the main antagonist.... even after being impaled, they will fight as if nothing happened. Oh, and hero, if you get hit in the head (back of the head in many movies), the consequence will be far worst than just a little headache. -
Where will we be in 1,000,000 Years?

optimistically, this: realistically, homo sapiens will be long extinct. I don't see our species to last more than a dozen of millennia.- 38 replies

Problems with KSP 1.1
Hary R replied to coyotepunk05's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Indeed but anyone who rely on mod should always be aware of their potential to break after even the most insignificant bug fix (slight over exaggeration but still true). Also, i've noticed that the OP was changed and the most rant worthy part was removed, good. If I agree that the graphic look...different, this update was all about changing to unity 5 and of course making all the change in the code for that. The code cleaning they did for the update was necessary, but for the average costumer, it was nearly invisible, which is in fact good, I don't want KSP to radically change just because of Unity 5.So, unity5 and a stable X64 for windows + all the code change (and bug fixed) are something necessary that this update have added. -
Problems with KSP 1.1
Hary R replied to coyotepunk05's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
First post on the forum and you chose that...sorry if i'm going to be rude but that post is always here each time an update came out. don't read the next part if you don't want to see my rant. Well still if you read my rant sorry it wasn't against you, welcome to the forum. -
Wait, if the challenge was posted today, be happy because 1.1 was released and is available for everyone, if the challenge was posted before today, that's not cool guys.

What is your biggest science pet peeve in movies?

ok for google, with the advance of technology it way more plausible. I was thinking of movie in the mid 2000. For the keyboard if what they were doing was a commend line i'll be ok but most of the time, in movie, they use a graphical user interface, no commend line ever appear on the screen and by frenetically taping on the keyboard, suddenly they got what they want.... general a loading bare a slow one for tension... worst case i've seen, an animation appeared as the character tape the keyboard (in real time).... some other one - Have anybody mention the epic walking away from a (pretty close) explosion? - Any planet killer that destroy the planet. - planets being (visually) very close to one another (yeah force awakening, you are the one i'm talking about) -

- For whatever reason, spaceship are the greatest VTOL ever created (you see that everywhere) some don't even need lift engine (Xwing i'm looking a you) - Why do your phone ( tablet , computer whatever) make strange noise when you use the touchscreen? - Even at Starwars level this one bugs me, why your space fighter when flying on a planet fly slower than a moderne jet plane? - Why do you use you computer's keybord that much? and why do you never use you mouse? - How in the world your search engine gives you the exact answer to your search on first try - How do you make a 52*52 pixel picture as clear as a 4k image? - why do alien have humane like body (to put it clear why do female alien have boobs?) - going strait up to space (thanks to KSP, i can't stand that anymore) - When in micro gravity, thing go just fly around for no apparent reason. - (weird me but), thunder and lightning rarely occur at the same time. - why do a planet only have one kind of biome (dune is the only exception in my eyes) -
Bah, il faut dire qu'on pase le plus claire de notre temps dans les section anglophone.

Don't bring me back bad memory please, i'm trying to pretend i've never knew ME (the blue screen still haunts me).... In fact I try to pretend that I get from 95 (first use of a mouse in an OS for me before it was all DOS) to XP directly.

This is what me and my brother were talking about the other day, the average PC user are part of the people who don't care or don't know or both and will use windows. Why? Because everyone use it and it was made to be attractive to the average users. Most linux user are more capable users when it come to get your way around computers, and linux offer them the freedom they need. If you ask me, i'm part of those who don't care.
