  1. Sorry i'm not an english native so sometime i get confuse by how should i say something. edit: ok i prefer to delete that part so my inability to say something to complicated in a foreign language will not affect the question.
  2. I know and that was not my question. This is the question, you work with it, you use the system in your everyday life (it's your job), but how long did it takes you to adapt to it, to adapt your mind to the result it gives you. (I should have gone for the hexadecimal as an example ) if i ask you to remake all the calculus in science and give result in hexadecimal only to someone who never use it, how long do you think will it take to that person to understand what your are talking about? (let's just say that that person is a scientist that never use hexadecimal.) I can say, as a financial adviser, i'm used to do calculus but if someone give me the result of my return of investment ration in hexadecimal, the number i will see will make no sense to me, and I can't say how long will take for me to have the figures have a sense again.( if I were to switch to hexadecimal).
  3. Hi guys, This was bugging me after the last metric vs imperial thread. What if we use a non 10 based number system? Ok let's just take the one that all imperial system based know, the 12 based but instead of going from 1 to 12 it goes from 1 to 10 (e.g. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-a-b-10) a and be replace 11 and 12. it result in 10/3 to be equal to 4 instead of 1,3333 (or 1/3) in the 10 based system, 3*5 = 13 instead of 15, 5*2 is a instead of 10 and so on (i guess you see what i meant). How much will that affect all the calculus made in history and can someone with the 10 based system understand the result of those calculus if you explain them how your system work? How long will it take for him to understand? 12 base is pretty easy but imagine it's a little more complicated, let say 14 based one or 22 based one. This is a part of what if we meet an intelligent life form, can we understand each other can, can we understand their math?
  4. Ok so we are back to the "Squad is loaded with money" thing... Which is not an argument guys, if you know a little about finance you will know that. Here is the thing it's not about the money, the store can deal with the normal update, it does do what it is needed for, this opt-in beta pre-release is not a normal thing, the store was not created fore that, Squad can certainly change it given enough time but do they really have that time right now? (or do you want the real release to be pulled back a few more month so you can participate the open beta) Do you really think the management team say who care we are loaded with money just wait and give it to them.... No one in his righteous mind will do that, especially that close to the (real) release. AND before you counter me, I don't think it was something they wanted to do in the first place but decided that it would be good for the community. The only thing i hope now is that all that useless drama here stop and the open beta end with some very good result so Squad cant take the time to change the store so next time we won't be left behind. Yeah i'm frustrated that I can't participate the beta because i brought the game from the store but I also understand that due to time constrain, technical difficulties and lake of manpower, SQUAD couldn't make it happened (at least this time). As I said, the silent 1.0.5 change in build number disaster convince me it can't be done right now.
  5. It's even harder then that, the silent update of 1.0.5 prove that the store is not ready (at the moment) to handle an open beta. I think Valve will have something to say about that. Won't happen.
  6. Guys, it's not worth it, don't buy another copy just to have access to an open beta. unless you really want it on Steam.
  7. so much drama. I was going to say something but it seems that it won't be of any use as any of my argument have been said by some and ignored by others. I hope not. this is a good idea, it was something 1.0 was lacking.
  8. It's all part of the cgf, you define the path to your .mu file with : MODEL { model = your path to your .mu } in your mod, the cgf indicate this: MODEL { model = NEBULA/decals/decal position = 0.0, 0.0, 0.0 scale = 1.0, 1.0, 1.0 rotation = 0, 0, 0 texture = decal, NEBULA/decals/textures/dcl } model = NEBULA/decals/decal try to change it to model = GAS/decals/the .mu file that should do the trick.
  9. This is something I said earlier but I guess people didn't understand why I emphasis the "business partnership" so much. Let me explain a little, like it or not, Curse is a company, they have financial guaranties, they won't shut down tomorrow. And if something goes wrong (server went down, download time is long etc), they (curse) are entitle by contract to repair it as soon as it happened. For a company, those guaranties are very important, that's why I ask, can you provide this kind of business partnership to Squad? And before someone reply to me, I'm repeating myself: i'm a financial adviser, this is my analysis of why Curse is to stay (this and some other reason I can easily see but don't need to explain), it's not my opinion on the mater at hand.
  10. Ok il' give you that, but it was your mod not every mod that is on Curse. (and not just now) Still i'm sure that withing the community and modder, Spacedock will be the popular one, I will put my mod on it for the next update. Right now don't have time.
  11. I do to... and really hope this dream come true. I will not argue against that. As a financial adviser, I think I know some of the reason why Curse is still to stay but that is not the purpose of this topic. My last off topic have already been deleted, it's a good reason for me to not challenge the mods any further.
  12. You know i'm certainly not the one to say if curse was a good or bad choice (KSP is my first heavily modded game so first time using that kind of site), my statement was merely to reply to Redneck that say that no one use Curse. Time to change is now, may be but can we give a business partnership to SQUAD that rival that of Curse is the question.
  13. Because we haven't had enough of this debate i guess.
  14. The fact is, people do use it: modders do use curse and players do download mod from curse. So yes, curse do serves Squad needs... for now. Until that fact change to a radical point, Curse is here to stay.
  15. Ok fair enough, indeed there are many systems in use that are not intended for humans. As for alien, until we meet them, there no way to really know.
  16. Well it's what i said, they will have something that will look nothing like what we have due to all our system were created for human use.
  17. may be but why that precise atom, how would you be sure the will choose that atom to define a second? It still is an arbitrary decision by a human but it will make gloofy to metric conversion easier.
  18. They will use gloofies... If a civilization happen to exist there, their unit of measurement will look nothing like what we have here on earth, this is due to the really arbitrary way imperial, US customary and metric unit were created to begin with ( created for human use only). But due to the nature of physic, i'm sure they will be a way to convert alien gloofies to metric, imperial or US customary units.
  19. Yeah reread the devnote, I can't believe i've missed that line. can't wait for 1.1 to come out to try it out.
  20. didn't see that? where on the devnote is it written.
  21. Another thread about this, another heated debat from both side, another closing coming in. Seriously, this is a sterile debate not because one or another is the best system, (in fact none is as the universe don't care about metric or imperial so for human observation, both work well it just depend on where you were born), but to the amount of "I don't care about you i'm right your wrong" going on here. How many thread about this have appeared in this forum? How many time did it devolve to "i'm right your wrong" debate? I say ENOUGH!!!
  22. I just noticed, the cargo bay of this first release didn't protect part from aerodynamic forces, it have been fixed and is ready for next release. But I think I will be waiting for 1.1 to come out before releasing anything. Here some WIP of the next part to be added.
  23. Indeed it is (for us who play the game at least).
  24. yeah managerial expense depend on a lot of thing (who know how much the CEO is paid) I will say my 600 000$ is reasonable. I'm sure Squad is backed by some bank, i'ts a business, not a one man adventure into the unknown, and for what i can take from devnote, the producer team is certainly looking for more investors/business partner. No worry about immediate future for them. well no, we aren't, we have bought the game at one point. The future of Squad is not our concern after that (it is only because we like the game) a real stakeholder is more concerned about hi investment, the income it will give him. A buyer don't take the same risk. all the up date Squad gived us are bonuses.
  25. Well as a finance specialist (that's my job), i will say that those figures are not that impressive, it's 1 000 000 copies over the course of 3 years with an average price of 20$ (promotion and early access price were way lower) a dev cost 30 000$ per year, managerial team will coast 600 000 to 1 00 000 $ per year (that include business travel, meeting, conference etc). Unity, the office, the web site, the forum, taxes etc will take least 30% of the income. Have to say for an indy game dev company, it's a pretty good figure but they are far from being loaded with money, and they still give those million buyer free update... (don't ask me to make calculation, it's not needed)
