Gyroscopic precession? If the launcher is spinning, not only are the RCS thrusters spinning, but their effect on your heading is offset 90* so that pitch becomes yaw. I guess they decided that the additional RCS propellant was less of a headache. Best, -Slashy

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the OP meant "gravity". Yes, you are correct. It's not possible. Best, -Slashy

We *Need* to stop climate change
GoSlash27 replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in The Lounge
Oh, rest assured I'm not taking any jabs at you personally. I'm merely pointing out that the people who are *supposed* to be the voice of reason in this discussion are the ones I usually see resorting to irrational arguments and behavior in this debate. We're all rational, science- minded folks here. I would think that sort of thing wouldn't be necessary. Your strawman, for example, isn't something I've seen only from you; it's pretty widespread and several examples of it can be found in this thread from quite a few different posters. Moreover, it's just one example of many: "You think we shouldn't do anything" <-- strawman, false choice "You're just like everyone else who says..." <-- ad hom "You're a denialist" <-- ad hom All of these are tactics to attack the poster rather than the argument. Not only are they unnecessarily hostile and distracting, but I think they're counterproductive as far as furthering the discussion. So my apologies if you took that personally; it wasn't intended that way. Best, -Slashy -
We *Need* to stop climate change
GoSlash27 replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in The Lounge
If I am like any of them, it doesn't extend to the notion that we "shouldn't do anything". This strawman is just one more example of fallacious reasoning exhibited by the folks who are *supposed* to be the rational ones in the discussion. Best, -Slashy Nibb, Bad analogy, as reducing greenhouse gas emissions as far as humanly possible doesn't "give you a bit more time". I do hear a lot of people claiming it "might" as an argument tactic, but the data doesn't support that as anything more than wishful thinking. Apologies, -Slashy -
We *Need* to stop climate change
GoSlash27 replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in The Lounge
This. The natural sources of greenhouse gases are now much larger than the man- made sources, and so it is impossible for changes in human behavior to have any effect on it (positive or negative). It's incorrect to claim that we can reduce it's impact, which is why I liken it to "driving off a cliff". Best, -Slashy -
Nobody ever accused me of being normal Best, -Slashy

Can I turn off explosions?
GoSlash27 replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You can go into the parts config files and disable explosions there. If I understand the program correctly, tho', it's not the explosions that are sucking up your memory. It's the modeling of all the independent parts. Thus you would still have this problem even without the explosions. Best, -Slashy -
I tried dabbling around with hobby motors. Wasn't able to come up with anything that could achieve that DV. Going with a 3 stage kerosene/ LOX rocket, it worked out to roughly 22 tonnes by my math. No guarantee that it would actually work, either... Best, -Slashy

We *Need* to stop climate change
GoSlash27 replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in The Lounge
Actually, he/she is not. Climate change affects long term trends, not short term weather. ^ Correlation <> causation. Best, -Slashy -
I'll do a crude back of the envelope estimate later today. Best, -Slashy

Yeah... I don't even have a guess for this one. Best, -Slashy

Thinkin' about it further, this. Ships that have been engineered to to the job as efficiently as possible without regard to any other factors wind up having a utilitarian style that I find very attractive. Best, -Slashy

Walk across the street like "What up, I'm like a big rat" Naw I'm just pumped about nibblin' on that dead cat The odor I'm emitting, it's so damn rotten people be like "dayum, that's a dead-ass possum!" Best, -Slashy

Kaboom, Some of this is flat-out impossible. For example, you can't make an Ion powered craft with a 2.0 t/w on Eve. Tylo isn't going to happen either, I don't think. You can't make 1:1 t/w with enough DV to land. Should be a fun challenge for those that have the patience for it. Have fun! -Slashy

In terms of career mode, it's a mistake to get into spaceplanes if you don't have the technology. A basic jet plane for exploration, OTOH, is an excellent idea. It is in your best interest to learn the ins and outs of spaceplane construction once you have the tech to pull it off. It helps tremendously later on in the game. Best, -Slashy

We *Need* to stop climate change
GoSlash27 replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in The Lounge
Agreed, with the emphasis on "looking for". We also want that path to survival to not be worse than the climate change itself. Best, -Slashy -
Are Sabre Engines More Efficient?
GoSlash27 replied to Blondai's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Oh, sure they will. It's just a matter of allowing it to build speed at 32km altitude. The trick is to not climb too fast past 20km, leaving you high and slow. If you pace yourself and reduce throttle at flameout, you can still achieve orbital velocity with very little intake area. The example I knocked together for this demo uses 2 XM-G50 intakes, which is comparable to a single ram intake or shock cone and weighs about 13.5 tonnes. It would still work with a single intake or even less, but then real-estate to mount the intakes becomes a problem on my design. Here's an example with less than 1 standard intake: This is true, although as you said upstream the entire thing hinges on the vehicle being properly designed and flown. If it's too heavy, doesn't have enough wings, or is flown like a rocket... then closed cycle thrust becomes non-trivial and the RAPIER can become preferable. Best, -Slashy -
Negatory. Looks like somebody's breaking the streak...

Well... this one isn't going to be very good. Might be a bit obscure... Apologies for taking so long to post it; had a social obligation... They say that my name is 3 lies in one And when stuck with my company, they don't have much fun Just find "a rock or something" and give me a minute You'll find my contents aren't bad... if you could just get in it Best, -Slashy

Wow, uhh... Okay. Heading home in 10 minutes. I'll post one when I get there... Best, -Slashy

*DINGDINGDING!!!* Starwhip's got it. Should be self-explanatory, but if anyone wants me to explain it, just let me know. Best, -Slashy
