  1. Heresy!! I say if you have enough DV to squander on aesthetics, your rocket is too big! Best, -Slashy
  2. I run mine by pitch benchmarks. At each waypoint, I want to be at a certain altitude. I also continually reduce my thrust to maintain an acceleration of 2sin(pitch). Vertical boost: Pitch=90* and acceleration =< 1.7G Maintain until 6km altitude. Gravity kick: Pitch=80* and acceleration =<2.0G Maintain until prograde marker falls into line with heading bug, then let the nose fall in line with prograde marker. 68* pitch: Altitude=12km and acceleration=<1.9G 45* pitch: Altitude=20km and acceleration=1.4G 30* pitch: Altitude=35km and acceleration=1.0G Switch to map view. Injection: Burn prograde at 1.0G acceleration until apoapsis achieved. Pitch to 0* and throttle as necessary to maintain apoapsis. Circularization: At 30 seconds to apoapsis, throttle to maintain apoapsis distance. Repeat for 15 seconds distance and 5 second distance. Hold apoapsis 5 seconds ahead until circularized. Best, -Slashy
  3. I don't care what it looks like. I just want it to do the job as cheaply and efficiently as possible. Best, -Slashy
  4. Someday down the road, we'll have a director at NASA who used to play KSP. He/ she will no doubt approach it the right way 'round; "I want to execute this mission within this budget. How do I make that happen?" Best, -Slashy
  5. Sadly there are no rep points in the game forum. But the E.T. reference was definitely rep-worthy. Best, -Slashy
  6. Aye. It is even more true that the authorization of the Apollo program in the first place was strictly political. The continued existence and funding of NASA beyond Apollo was likewise political. The reduced role and funding weren't the fault of politics, but rather lack of public interest. Politics simply wasn't able to overcome that after we beat the Soviets to the moon. Best, -Slashy
  7. I think it's more accurate to say that politics made the moon landings. Best, -Slashy
  8. I would've repped you for this Best, -Slashy
  9. Your Jakeium collapses the hill under it's weight, developing a sinkhole that swallows you. I mosey on in and take over. My sinkhole.
  10. Well... To be fair, he didn't forget about it. He asserted that it can be changed. He just didn't provide any information regarding how he would do that. Best, -Slashy
  11. I'm not even sure what "the talk" is in this case. I don't see anything concrete in this proposal. Best, -Slashy
  12. "Piggly-Wiggly" is a chain of grocery stores in the southeastern United States. I shoulda specified. Still funny, tho' Best, -Slashy

It's a ship's mast. I'm sure of it... Best, -Slashy
  14. 1) a 2) c- I use a different method. 3) b Best, -Slashy
  15. I love that one! I will refrain from answering to give someone else a chance. Best, -Slashy
  16. Quick 'n' dirty rule of thumb for stock: You will spend the first 1,500 m/sec in vertical boost. This phase needs 1.7:1 t/w ratio. You should burnout right around 7km altitude. The next transstage 1,500 m/sec phase will get you to roughly 45* pitch. T/W should be 1.4:1. You should burnout around 25km altitude. The last 1,500 m/sec is insertion. 1.2 t/w will be fine, and it can taper back to less than 1:1 as you tip prograde. I don't necessarily use a single stage for each phase, and may occasionally have a stage bridge these phases (or even one stage do all 3). Best, -Slashy
  17. I issue a writ of eminent domain and turn your hill into a piggly- wiggly. My piggly- wiggly.
  18. Cirocco, Yeah, we're in agreement. Empiro, I'm talking about stock. Best, -Slashy

I think I read too much into it. An old sailing ship-of-the-line?
  20. ^3770. Although I flew a circumnavigation flight this weekend and my distance was over 4200 km, so maybe there's something to it... Best, -Slashy
  21. Not true. I correct you and take the hill. My hill.
  22. Glad that's over with! A complete circumnavigation of Kerbin with a return to KSC. 10 1/2 days and over 4,300 km. I could've gone much farther, but frankly I'm sick of it! NCS class. Best, -Slashy
  23. Wow, you think that's boring, wait'll you get a load of my last flight! It's still in progress...
  24. Chuck Norris decides he won't let you. Chuck Norris' hill.
