  1. Dr. Phibes, The answer to your question is "no", sadly. There is no precision navigation system to bring you back to KSC. At least... not in stock, although I have seen VOR implemented in mods. The way we do it in stock is by VFR and checkpoints. Retroburn at the southern rim of the crater, defined altitude/ speeds at coastlines, mountains/ etc. It gets easier with practice, but it's all manual. I tried making PAPI lights and a meatball in stock. They worked as advertised, but the visual range was too short and they lagged pretty badly due to the processing requirements of raycasting. I found that it was actually easier to eyeball the approach. Perhaps a crude ILS system would work and not put so much strain on the processor... Best, -Slashy
  2. It's about 13 times farther than Minmus *edit* it's nearly out of Earth's SoI altogether now. Best, -Slashy
  3. I don't mean to come off as whiny, but I am completely burned out on "flat- earthers". I've followed 2 launch attempts this past week (Mad Mike and Falcon Heavy) and this subject seems to infest every conversation. I'm sick of hearing their theories and questions. I'm sick of watching the arguments. I'm even sick of people complaining about them. I don't mean to be poopy about it, but I think it would be nice to spend some time far away from that subject. Sorry, carry on -Slashy
  4. I didn't hear anything in the PC to corroborate that figure. Best, -Slashy
  5. So now that we have a couple hours until TMI reignition, thoughts and impressions? I played hooky from a work- related class to witness the launch as it happened, and it was everything I expected it to be. Doubly- exciting since there were no spoilers. I was cheering like a maniac during all of the landmarks that went right, plus the absurdity of watching Spaceman chillin' in his roadster :D. Simultaneous booster flyback in formation... How cool was that?? Best, -Slashy
  6. End of PC and Starman's back up. I say you steal the avatar. Best, -Slashy
  7. Correction: Possible suborbital test flights of BFR next year
  8. Elon Musk predicts potential BFR space flights next year...
  9. Looks like Starman is down and the PC is about to start. Best, -Slashy
  10. ... Or not Best way to keep Jeb from sneaking into your unmanned rescue pods is to strand him in interplanetary space. Best, -Slashy
  11. And also higher dry mass than a standard Falcon 9. It may take a few launches to get it dialed in.
  12. I concur. I think that the fact that we haven't had confirmation of success on the core stage by now is a sign in and of itself, tho'. Still... I didn't expect them to even attempt to recover the core stage until last night, so I don't really consider that a failure. Best, -Slashy
  13. Anyone know how long to TMI injection? Best, -Slashy
  14. ... Driver? What, are they doing a Heavy Metal remake, or is Jeb going for a joyride? (Please tell me it's Jeb)...
  15. Even more hypey! 3 recoveries on the same launch?? Best, -Slashy
  16. Are you kiddin' me?? They're gonna do 2 simultaneous first stage recoveries (I don't believe they're going for 3 on this one) and flinging a sportscar to Mars with the radio blasting "Space Oddity" from the most powerful launcher in existence. And nobody knows if it's going to work or just blow up! I mean... not Mars, Mars, but still... How is this not the most hypey, awesome spectacle of the 21st century? Best, -Slashy
  17. I and 2 of my coworkers are supposed to be in training, but we took an hour of vacation so we can watch the launch instead. The hype is real -Slashy
  18. Statement from Mad Mike Hughes following yesterday's failed launch attempt. This should've been posted to social media yesterday, but the people at "NoizeTV" are clearly half- wits. Reading between the lines, I don't think he'll have another go at it for a while. *EDIT* There also seems to be a disparity between the time this video was posted and the time it was claimed to have been taken. Best, -Slashy
  19. Starman4308, Not for me I have a spreadsheet that does that. I just plug in the requirements for the stage (payload, DV, minimum t/w) and it tells me exactly what I need to build. Since my payloads are reusable and modular, my launchers do wind up being sort of standardized anyway. Best, -Slashy
