Google is having problems today, since 7:06am EST (according to downdetector.com). I'm also seeing critical latency between Cogent and Savvis (high packet loss and >180ms latency), plus a lot of traffic and attacking on both the east and west coasts as well as in Europe. Anyone else having troubles pulling up Google or logging in?... Chrome issues?

[KSP v1.1.3] Stock Bug Fix Modules (Release v1.1.3b.1 - 10 Jul 16)

Cool tap water over the wrists works too, as does dampening a towel/cloth and draping it over the back of your neck... conversely as well for warming up. I've heard argument by many about this as well: Drinking a hot liquid on a hot day causes your body to cool itself down, a reaction by the body in its attempt to lower the internal body temperature due to the hot liquid in the stomach. Conversely, drinking a cold liquid on a cold day causes your body to warm itself up, a reaction by the body in its attempt to raise the internal temperature due to the cold liquid in the stomach. I rely on air conditioning in the summer, and hat/coat/boots/gloves in the winter... and brandy, definitely brandy.

Counter to my previous post, I got lucky... the skies cleared for about 20 minutes, a break in the cloud band. I got to see them (yea!), although it was very hazy. Marvelous sight.
-
Very cool! There is a lot to see there... definitely requires an all day visit, and more than one at that. Enjoy!

I was really looking forward to seeing tonight's conjunction, but we've very cloudy overcast skies ... so no viewing for me. The past few days we've had clear skies at night, so I'd been watching the lead-up. Disappointed.

Burdman, Try to observe from a distance where you're not disturbing them (binoculars come in handy for this); Make note of the trees and branches and bushes or open grounds and such that they frequent, and then move in close and camp (try to conceal yourself a bit too). Then it's just a waiting game... much patience required, don't make noise, and limit your movements. Winston, Nice shots. Our Chickadees had 4 hatch, 3 survived (2 females and 1 male). The chicks have all left the nest at this point. Funny, it was the male who was the last to leave, and for several days had spent a lot of time hanging around sitting on the birdhouse begging his parents for food. Since then, we now have two (new? same?) residents with a new batch of eggs which have hatched already... I can hear the peeps of the chicks inside the birdhouse, but have not caught sight of them yet. The Wren we had hanging around, the male seems to have lost his mate (don't know how). He's still staying in close proximity to the Wren birdhouse trying to attract another mate (singing all day). And the Goldfinches are hanging around my garden (our State bird), they're after the black-eyed-susan (Rudbeckia hirta) seeds.

Summer you say? (just ran across this) How your brain knows it's summer.

I seem to recall a day when Steam informed me I could no longer play DOD (Day Of Defeat) because their requirements exceeded what WinXP could provide, and it refused to function further. And with that, I could no longer play DOD, not even local with my bots. That's the day I dumped Steam. I'm quite sure you'll be facing the same for Win7 someday.

No thank you.

These two just in: [h=1]With SpaceX Rocket Failure, NASA's Now Had Three Cargo Failures From Three Providers[/h]- http://www.forbes.com/sites/alexknapp/2015/06/28/with-spacex-rocket-failure-nasas-now-had-three-cargo-failures-from-three-providers/ [h=1]NASA chief says SpaceX explosion will not deter human space flight program[/h]- http://in.reuters.com/article/2015/06/28/us-space-spacex-launch-bolden-idINKCN0P80U720150628 I'll take it such things were expected up front, and built into the budget.

Rocket patents: "Coming in hot!" edition - reentry stuff!
LordFerret replied to RainDreamer's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I think those two reentry devices should fall under the reentry cremation category lol. Reminds me of a fire-escape device someone invented, which was a bag/tube which ran down the side of the building... you jump into it and slide down. As I recall, the first test didn't go so well. -
1 minute 4 seconds here (on a laptop, with 2 mods loading, 95 patches applied). It's actually quicker now than previous versions, but I'm down a mod (docking cam).

I must be missing something. How does a Kerbal get into a probe core???

"Amber is one of several technically defined colors used in automotive signal lamps. In North America, SAE standard J578 governs the colorimetry of vehicle lights,[2] while outside North America the internationalized European ECE regulations hold force.[3] Both standards designate a range of orange-yellow hues in the CIE color space as "amber". In the past, the ECE amber definition was more restrictive than the SAE definition, but the current ECE definition is identical to the more permissive SAE standard. The SAE formally uses the term "yellow amber", though the color is most often referred to as "yellow". This is not the same as selective yellow, a color used in some fog lamps and headlamps. " - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber_%28color%29#SAE.2FECE_amber It might be referred to as "yellow", but by standards definition it is "amber"... my point. http://www.cie.co.at/index.php/Publications/index.php?i_ca_id=466 http://cie.mogi.bme.hu/cie_arch/kee/newcie/publ/abst/s004.html

"Space Launch Complex 40, Cape Canaveral, Florida, Earth" Really. lol

I can't tell you how many times I'd been raked over the coals for this when I was in my teens (driver's Edu)..... but: It's an "Amber" light, not 'Yellow'. This is defined pretty much globally by the SAE. Despite that, I'll guess 99% of the world refers to it as 'Yellow'; I've even heard police and court judges refer to it as such lol. Previous posters are correct. The amber light is a signal of pending red (stop) light, and is allegedly timed for roadway posted speed and distance to intersection for normal breaking/stopping. Here where I live, for a while we had to deal with 'red light cameras', which would monitor and record drivers running through red lights and issue them a ticket/fine (they've since been over-ruled, for now). Anyway, some of the roadways had been marked with a narrow reflective white line (perpendicular to the road) to indicate and inform drivers if they could 'safely' pass through the amber light. There wasn't much notice made about this, and I think it was in experimental stages. What it boiled down to is: If you're doing the posted speed limit and you've crossed the line already when the light turns amber, you'll pass safely ... but if the light turns amber before you reach that line - you're not going to make it. I found it quite helpful myself. Zero tickets here. Of course the old joke is: Green light means 'Go', Amber light means 'Go Faster'.

Hollywood will leave you with unrealistic expectations about everything, as it should, because nothing about Hollywood is real. Not a good day for SpaceX.

Don't tell me; She studied ... wait for it ..... spaceflight? lol

Perhaps it's the complete UI overhaul that's been mentioned elsewhere in these forums?

Could be a refurbished drive.
