  1. My Minmus station, which had generated a ton of science for me, just before I deorbited it... Landing in the shadow of a giant (a Mun arch)...
  2. Gulf Shores, Alabama! Does that count? Actually, the beach / shore area right here in NJ can get pretty grueling, if not downright disgusting. With temperatures in the high 90's (or over 100 even), and humidity at 100%... ugh!
  3. Today my encounter with Moho came up, a SCANsat mission launched early in my Science game before obtaining the Hi-Res scanner. Due to the approach, not wanting a retrograde orbit for the accompanying relay satellites, an adjustment burn was made just as Moho's SOI was encountered. The burn, which was not in the planning, took a little longer than desired, and as a result the transfer stage was short of fuel for a full orbital insertion burn. Fortunately, the probe and relay platform had fuel enough to finish the job and accomplish orbit... but not before mission control (me) went into full panic mode. As if running short on fuel wasn't enough; Without relay satellites, being behind Moho at this point, control of the probe was lost right in the middle of the burn. The panic was short lived however, as the probe regained signal a few moments later. Currently I've 3 relay satellites orbiting Moho at 500km, and a SCANsat probe in polar orbit at 250km doing its thing. The image below is of the probe and relay platform in orbit, circularizing before releasing the payload. Next encounter is another SCANsat mission, to Eve, 32 days.
  4. I do not have access to editing on Wiki (nor do I want it), but if you do... all you need is SCANsat. Scan the bodies and generate the biome maps, then you can label them.
  5. Wow, I didn't know plants grew on Duna! @TheSaint; Texas. Heat. Heat? The first time I went to Austin there was a cold snap, bitter cold. The trip following, it was so hot, ridiculous heat, that upon leaving the airport and stepping outside, hitting that "wall", I almost said screw it, tempted to turn around to book a flight back home.
  6. ! Never thought of that. Handy. Added to the list of 'stuff'.
  7. Speaking of winter, and snow... we got our first snow just last night, a light dusting.
  8. I have a hunch this is directly tied to The Peter Principle. You could sprinkle a little of The Dilbert Principle on that as well.
  9. Finally got something going with Imgur again. It took a new account, and new email account host, to accomplish it... pain in the butt that they are. So yea, I built a jet. It flies. Fast.
  10. SunDiver did just that today, all for science. This model didn't fair as well as previous versions (done in previous versions of KSP). Its heat shielding went at 668,495K, although I did get to send out some science before it did. I didn't get to run all of the experiments however, as I was wanting to get in much closer. The unshielded batteries went next, and that put an end to sending science. The remainder of the ship folded gradually, a bit here, a bit there, starting around 280,100K. Kerbol was mighty big at that point, filling the screen... and it just kept getting bigger. Finally at 139,635K, falling in at 75,303m/s, the rest of the ship folded. It was of course an unmanned probe! I'm still having problems with Imgur. They've got my email hosting service's domain blocked, something about spam accounts. So, until I come up with an alternative, no pictures ..... but I promise you, it did happen!
  11. My fault... I'd not gone into that forums section, I just came into here and made the post. Pardon.
  12. The mark of an era gone by, and a sad one at that. Things were definitely better back then, to that I'll testify. RIP John Glenn. I remember your flight like it was yesterday. Godspeed. http://www.space.com/34969-john-glenn-astronaut-spaceflight-legacy.html http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/08/us/john-glenn-dies.html?_r=0
  13. French toast is definitely a win. We've had this very poll before, maybe 1 or 2 years ago(?). Waffles was the clear winner, by quite a margin.
  14. Is there a box alongside the bed that you put quarters in?
  15. That's what I was referring to with 'too close for comfort'. Meeting up with your spacestation, coming up on it fast, not realizing or paying attention to how fast, watching it grow bigger and bigger in the view, because it's pretty and all that... and then all of the sudden it's like, Whoa! Brakes! Fun stuff.
  16. I watched one video, forget who's it was (maybe Scott Manley's?), and after that it all just clicked. Now, at this point, I can consistently rendezvous between 1000m to 500m separation... and a few of those times it was just too close for comfort. There's nothing like being spot-on target. The docking itself is a breeze, actually fun, with a docking camera. This is all manual mind you, no MechJeb here.
  17. Boy does that sound bring back memories. During the late 50's and throughout the 60's, air raid sirens were tested every Saturday at noon all over our state (pretty much all over the eastern coast of the US as well). A 60 second long 'alert' burst was sounded. It was LOUD and you heard it no matter where you were. Having practiced it regularly in elementary school, we kids would play 'air raid' and do a duck and cover whenever the sirens sounded.
  18. She said, and I quote... "No way in hell."
  19. *** KSC NEWS HEADLINES *** Giant mushroom seen growing on launchpad! Scientists baffled!
  20. I'd have to ask her what she wrote to quote it exactly; But, it's something about her remembering these civilian policemen in the streets when she lived in Moscow (a long time ago). I had showed her the sash, and she knew immediately what it was.
  21. Showed this to M'Lady, and she said (written herself)... V bivshem Sovetskom souze kogda ia jila v Moskve tam xodili drujiniki i navodili poriadok, eto bilo oshen udobno. A te kotorie ne swlushalis Drujiniki to v tom slushae vizivali milicionera tak nazivali policiu ranshe...Tak-shto Drujinik eto oshen cenni shelovek....
  22. Not quite, but almost. After planting a flag atop a Mun arch, Dottie Kerman took a step back to admire her work... but then proceeded to slide off the edge. Falling, a slow fall, she 'came to' just in time for her jetpack to be activated; But, alas, not in time to go full thrust and break her fall. She hit the surface and went poof! in a cloud of dust. A later rescue mission, bringing another pilot to fly Dottie's ship back, may have had Dottie stowed away onboard for the return trip without anyone knowing. Back at the KSC, she showed up for work the next day instead of on the MIA list. In other news: For the time being, I cannot post any more Imgur images. It seems Imgur has blocked all email accounts from the domain I use from uploading images. Imgur claims this was done because of excessive spam coming from the domain in question. No time has been given as to how long this will last. This is as per one of the Imgur Support Reps. I personally, doubt this very highly as the domain in question has a very long outstanding track record. Anyone else with similar Imgur problems within the past two weeks, I'd be interested in hearing about.
  23. I've been quietly thinking the same. You might as well go ahead @eloquentJane, because resistance is futile.
