  1. Would this work for you? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/81543-0-90-NavHud-a-NavBall-inspired-Heads-Up-Display-1-1-4

  3. Does the rover have to start on the ice? Or, can it be at the top of a big hill, with the ramp on the ice.
  4. Mono storage is much smaller per unit fuel. Being able to build a more compact craft can be a huge benefit.
  5. I respectfully refute your position http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sample_return_mission http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_(spacecraft) (Did not get full science recovery because the chute failed) http://setas-www.larc.nasa.gov/meep/30-day/odc/odc_30_day.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Duration_Exposure_Facility
  6. They WILL work in the 180 position, correct? Just not the +90 or -90.
  7. Anomaly hunting is the best thing ever. The only one I don't have is the Vallhenge, because my Jool-5 save got corrupted before I got there. Stunt flying in Kerbin's mountain ranges is a close second. I think I've buzzed every mountain range on Kerbin. Finding and exploring interesting landforms is fun. It's not as simple as anomaly hunting. You really have to study maps, pay attention to your surroundings when zooming about, and set your own goals.
  8. Sure thing. Sorry if I appeared terse...I was typing in a hurry. I wish I could have found a reference for you. Just because it's not a new issue doesn't mean a lot of people aren't aware of it, or that it isn't worth discussing further. Thank you for rekindling it so thoroughly. - - - Updated - - - Is there a story behind the 9.82 thing? I was only aware it was an issue, but not the origin of it.
  9. That's not the correct value in this universe ;-) http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Specific_impulse#Conversion_factor
  10. Excellent job finding it, but it's a long-term known issue. I couldn't find any reference on the bugtracker, but I've seen it in plenty of spaceplane threads..
  11. That's how ISP is defined. Think of it more as a conversion factor and don't worry about the source. There are non-geocentric ways of defining ISP. This is just how KSP and most of the scientific world do it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_impulse#Specific_impulse_as_a_speed_.28effective_exhaust_velocity.29
  12. Damn, this is depressing. This is the first I've heard of his passing. I voted yes on the memorial, even though I'm a little unsure as to the appropriateness of it. I DO think Nimoy was the kind of well-rounded person one should strive to be, and he contributed to our culture's enthusiasm for space in a big way. As far as the location...Perfect. _\V/
  13. Very cool data. Even cooler if you correlated it with a GPS track.
  14. Well, now I know what I have to try tonight...you jerk ;-P Easy Mode: Gigantors Hard Mode: OX-4L Inconceivable Mode: OX-STAT
  15. I don't use Rapiers. I clip an LV-N, 48-7S, or an Aerospike inside my turbojets. Leaving the turbos running (even at reduced throttle) while your rockets are on is a huge fuel savings. I switch over to pure rocket mode when my total thrust from throttled Turbos + Rockets = 100% Rocket power.

  17. Yes, thanks for the input. I'm going to try mounting them on suspensions per Overfloater and Vagiani's work. If that doesn't work, I'm going back to 8 wheels and hoping it survives on Eve. - - - Updated - - - This is very common. The Kerbals end up getting set as "debris". You have to fix it by manually editing your persistent.sfs file (it's just text). I can't remember what they're supposed to be set to, but just look at another (healthy) Kerbal in the file.
  18. Stability control will NOT let you do passive (or active) braking if you have fewer wheels on the ground than the limiter allows. Go take a look at the (Waypoint?) settings. When that fails, I have 300 units of Mono to play with. I need to do some experimenting when I get home tonight, but I'm going to try 25% of the wheels (default is 75%), and 10 m/s for some steep downhills. I made a 12-wheeled version of the rover in my post, and I'm having a harder time keeping wheels on the ground than on the 8-wheel. Very frustrating. I want to drive about 200km on Eve and I'm looking for solutions. - - - Updated - - - Do the wings act as suspension? Do they flex noticeably? I'm having a hard time deciding if my wheels are too stiff or too loose.
  19. You're a little something, all right.
  20. I just started playing with the Rover Autopilot myself. I built a similar rover to yours (2.5m, 8 rail-mounted wheels, 15 tons). I installed some very low-slung skidplates/bumpers on the ends. When the brakes or terrain tip it forward, the skidplate catches and pops the nose back up. It's scary as hell, but I have enough SAS on it that the Stability Control flattens it out in mid-air. It'll safely sustain 23m/s in moderate terrain on Kerbin, and 12m/s on the Mun. Just rebuilt a simplified version:
