1. Parts LV-1 "Ant" key = 0 315 key = 1 85 key = 3 0.001 LV-1R "Spider" key = 0 290 key = 1 260 key = 8 0.001 I get the intent, but you'd think it would be better for gameplay if they were nearly equivalent. Compare and contrast to: 48-7S key = 0 300 key = 1 270 key = 7 0.001 24-77 key = 0 290 key = 1 250 key = 7 0.001
2. I'm having the same crash. Unfortunately, I'm not getting crash logs. Thanks for figuring out it was the temp gauges. It kept hitting my spaceplanes after about 5 minutes of flight. I had well over a dozen bars showing.
3. My other issue with post-1.0 KSP and the move towards realism: I no longer feel comfortable sitting down with an 8-year-old and having them build and fly rockets. Yeah, you can turn off aero failures and heating, but thrust scaling with ISP is a LOT harder for a kid to wrap their heads around. I was about to introduce KSP to my nephew and my ex's kids, now I don't think it's viable. Anyone else here have kids? Would you, do you still play with them?
4. Take a look at MechJeb if you have it. It's either in the Translatron, or RCS Settings. (Sorry, my memory is broken.)
5. That's a thought I've been having for a while. One of the great things about KSP is being a member of a community--Being able to share crafts, diagnose each other's problems, etc. If everyone is operating in universes with slightly different physical constants, the community gets fragmented. It was manageable when we only had Stock vs. FAR, but further fragmentation is, as you said, is a bad precedent.
6. Other than in the build screens? Not that I'm aware of. Hitting the F10 key will give you temperature bars on all the parts approaching overheat.
7. Those are some nice looking planes Wish I had time to play right now, I'd give them a spin.
8. Do the Home and End keys not work any more? I haven't tried 1.0 yet.
9. Try using the ScanSat mod to help you find all these anomalies. It's one of my favorite activities.
10. All you goofballs are great, but THIS is a thing of beauty.
11. What you're talking about is listed as the Sidereal Rotational Velocity, and it's in the sidebar: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Kerbin This varies with the cosine of the latitude. Kerbin has the highest SRV of all the bodies you can land on. For all the rest, it's not really worth accounting for (except maybe Eeloo).
12. MechJeb's Rendezvous tool will tell you the encounter distance while you're fiddling with nodes.
13. If thrust lasts longer than 4 hours, please consult a doctor.
14. 60kN + 2(30kN) -------------------- = 487s 60kN 2(30kN) ------ + --------- 800s 350s My mass flow (denominator) calculates to the same volumetric flow as shown on the wiki.
15. Thanks, I'd lost that link. It's the best watercraft resource I've found for KSP.
16. That doesn't take into account the curvature on a small, low-grav world. Get up fast, turn off the 48-7Ss, and aim flat. A constant-altitude takeoff, if you will. Found the study I was looking for: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/39812-Landing-and-Takeoff-Delta-V-vs-TWR-and-specific-impulse As you can see, 1.3 TWR is pretty bad. 2.0 is definitely a sweet spot.
17. http://garycourt.github.io/korc/ I'm doing this from memory, but I think the lightest you can do is about 30-35 tons with 48-7s, The lightest you can do with aerospikes is about 65 tons. My Eve ascent vehicle was about 75 with aerospikes, but it wasn't perfectly optimal. Oops, these numbers are for version 0.25 and an OCTO2. It's heavier now.
18. Someone made a graph of TWR efficiency on airless worlds (probably travert). I think 2-3 was pretty efficient. At 1.3, you'll be losing quite a bit to gravity drag. If you're only using the 48-7s for the first 5-10 seconds, it's probably worth it. Assuming 2 * 48-7S per 1 * LV-N, the combined ISP is 487.
19. I find turning off the gimbal on your VTOL engines to be invaluable. Your whole craft is your gimbal when in VTOL mode. It's very hard to do precision flying when you're competing with the engine.
20. Any of the Babylon 5 ships. So many styles to chose from. The Terran ones are probably the only ones you could reasonably do in KSP. So: --Star Fury --Someone already made a decent Agamemnon. EDIT: The Narn and the Centauri cruisers should be doable.
21. Huffing. It makes my voice all squeaky.
