  1. A few questions - since 1.5.88 came out, there's been a new version of Kopernicus and several new versions if Sigma Replacements. Does anyone know if these new versions are good to go, or should they be avoided for the time being?
  2. @Galileo and @OhioBob hit Eta... ...before high-tailing it home. Wow, that's a lot of ribbons. And both Galileo and OhioBob were promoted to five stars thanks to the 59 (!) experience points that each gained on the trip. With all Gaelans safely home, it's time to enter the GPP 1.5.88 space/time vortex and see if we can pass through to the other side. Fingers are crossed.
  3. @AmpCat Sounds like you're looking for the Alien Space Program mod, which allows exactly what you describe in the stock system (such as basing your space program on Duna). Be forewarned, however, that Tellumo is a bear. Atmospheric pressure, gravity, and size conspire to make reaching orbit from Tellumo extremely difficult. Unless you already love operations on and around Eve, I'd stay away from any sort of extended operations on Tellumo.
  4. Woohoo! I'm now officially motivated to get a GPP install going in 1.3.1.
  5. That's actually one of my self-imposed role-playing rules. On those rare occasions when I use fuel crossfeed, it can only be from two side boosters into the central core, as was originally proposed (but since abandoned) in the Falcon Heavy.
  6. @Shadowmage It may be unrealistic, but it works. I've used the shielded docking ports in the deployed position as an airbrake for quite some time, opening and closing sometimes as needed to adjust the range during a reentry. Here's a picture of a craft using the technique:
  7. Just a picture of Galileo and OhioBob standing victoriously (but briefly) on Icarus: Stock heat resistance on all parts, and 100% heating. Edit: And since they were in the neighborhood, Galileo and OhioBob decided to swing by Thalia as well. We'll definitely set foot on Eta, but we'll have to see just how well the lander handles Thalia's brutal heat.
  8. It's just one of those things that happens from time to time. Generally, if you do a quicksave (F5) followed by a quickload (F9) then the procedural tank ends will go back to where they're supposed to be.
  9. Karborundum has successfully been retrieved from an undisclosed altitude above Ciro. Unlike my previous Karborundum harvesting attempts, all parts had their stock heat resistance, resulting in this unusual design: Most of the ship, including the majority of the radiators, is hiding in the shadow of an inflatable heat shield. I was a bit impatient and only made it back to Gael with 40,000 units of Karborundum, but now we can start exploring the outer system with Kerbals without it taking forever. The new word of the day is "Brachistochrone".
  10. Just a note to say that exploration of the outer planets is proceeding well in my 2.5x career:
  11. Massive Scale Launches is a strategy I always have running. When combined with Stage Recovery and thrifty rocket design, it's possible to loft some significant payloads at very low cost. Basically, you get the economics of spaceplanes without the tedium of having to make precision landings after achieving orbit.
  12. For what it's worth, the Career Evolution pack has lost a bit of its luster. The further you get in your career, the less useful it seems. At this point I'm thinking about disabling it, since it never seems to do what I want it to do (like offer a contract for a new station core around a distant planet).
  13. I believe that Realistic atmospheres is built in to Sigma Dimensions at this point, so it should already be running in a rescaled system. @OhioBob is the mod's author, and he's also part of the GPP team.
  14. Everywhere manned in stock, including two Jool-5 missions. In GPP, manned from Icarus to Tellumo, and probes as far as Gauss.
  15. I've always used a hybrid approach with upscale GPP. I'll manually install all the universe-defining mods (GPP, Kopernicus, Sigma Dimensions, high detail terrain settings, etc.) then use CKAN for parts packs (Near Future, USI, Vens) and smaller mods (Better Burn Time, Landing Height Indicator, etc.) SSTU is a funny duck, and I have yet to use it in a way that feels right at a scale larger than 2.5x. (The 6.4x config floating around is wildly inconsistent and occasionally very OP.) If you want to try 10.625x, I'd stay away from SSTU and lean more on Vens, SpaceY and Near Future while using SMURFF at full lever. And as you noted, everything takes a lot longer in 10.625x. It's not for everyone. I've settled on 2.5x for my current save, and am liking it a lot. If RL and time wasn't a factor, I'd be playing at a larger scale. One more thing - check out Real Scale Boosters if you're playing in 10.625x. Part costs need a balance pass, but mass and performance are spot on. 600 ton shuttle SRB? Check. F-1, F-1A and F-1B? Check. Saturn multi body and Carrack from ETS? Check.
  16. Just wanted to say that the terrain in 2.5x GPP continues to impress. Here are two shots of a probe coming down over Niven's Varicose: Thalia is clearly visible (and labeled!) low over the horizon in the second shot, courtesy of DOE.
  17. I'll definitely have to try the new version when I update my install, which probably won't be until some time after 1.3.1 drops. In the meantime, here's a screenshot featuring Isk as viewed down near Icarus:
  18. That doesn't appear too glossy to me. That said, I've read that Research Bodies can make the planets look shinier than normal.
  19. PSA: Many parts of Iota are not flat. Like, not flat in the slightest.
  20. I found that four of the small TCS panels were enough for a small probe. The only manned vessel I ever set down on Thalia had six of the medium TCS panels, but it didn't stay on the surface for very long.
