I can't tell you how much that paint misalignment bothers me. But I would not want the S3 tanks to change to orange. That would mess up a lot of my designs, visual wise. I second the idea of orange 5m parts. But then I'd also like some fat new engines

Tylo VS Laythe VS Duna - To Kolonize or not to kolonize?
ShadowZone replied to Sharkman Briton's topic in KSP1 Discussion
While I like theorising about colony concepts, when it all comes back to the GAME aspect of KSP, I always feel a pointlessness after establishing a big ground base somewhere. Yeah, you can go biome crawling (which takes ages...) or produce resources... but aside from that it is pretty bleak in regards to what you can actually do. -
If you watch my video in the first "Spoiler" link, I have constructed orbital cranes that deliver S3-7200 tanks outfitted with docking ports and landing legs. The crane leaves the tank, a cargo rover picks it up and docks it with the station on the ground. A bit complicated, but it worked. You could also just use a claw to avoid tedious surface docking. Just get your vehicle close, connect it to the station and transfer the resources.

But as it turned out, that was very tedious. And for missions where I needed refueling, it was never close enough to be efficient. Yep. Land a 200 ton ship on Minmus or other smaller planets/moons to get ore and then produce the fuel yourself. This adds about 5,5 tons to your vehicle (ISRU + 1 drill + small tank as "cache" since you can't convert directly from the drill). I am currently looking into a similar setup to use as my Grand Tour vehicle.

I finally finished my "Ozymandias" tour of the Outer Planets Mod bodies. Have to make a coherent string of videos out of the raw footage, but the current episode features a harebrain dive through a gas giant's atmosphere. While firing the engines to keep speed up. It's the Kerbal way The entire album of the mission so far: And here's a video of that part of the experience:

I have replicated the problem on another sandbox game on the same installation. Priax was fine, Tal delivered the same problem as described. So far I was able to scan Ovok, Priax, Nissee, Thatmo and Plock without incident. Haven't tried the others yet. Tal is special since it is a moon of a moon. Maybe that has something to do with it? I would have to experiment further.

I have played KSP on my SP3. Not as smooth as I would like, but it was doable

I have a very weird problem. I am using the Outer Planets Mod and have sent a probe to Tal (one small moon) to scan it for resources. The moment the survey completes, everything goes wrong: There are no resource overlays. When I enter map mode, my craft disappear (all of them) and also the orbital paths of the celestial bodies. Sometimes I can go to the Space Center and then get back to my craft if I am lucky. But as soon as I focus on Tal, the problem acts up again. I am basically stuck with a broken savegame due to this particular moon not wanting to be scanned. Any ideas how I could get that working again? Does anyone of you already have tried scanning Tal in OPM?

What's the furthest planet or celestial body you've visited?

So far? Sarnus. I plan on going to Urlum, Neidon and Plock in the same mission: Ozymandias - Outer Planets Conquest: -
Yes, please! I want this! To respond to OP: I am now 36 years old and KSP is the only game that doesn't bore me to tears after 2 hours, even though I have clocked in over 2000 hours. Why? I played Quake (1996) on semi pro level (if there ever was such a thing back then) - every other shooter since then was just meh for me. "Action adventure"? Press A to jump, B to interact, X to punch, RT to fire. Yawn. KSP is the only game that doesn't limit my creativity (unless my designs break my computer - see my Normandy recreation on my YT channel, link in sig). I come up with my own mission ideas (currently doing sort of an Outer Planets Tour thing). And stuff I see, I read about or I hear from other people inspires me to create new designs. I am honestly more of a builder than an explorer. I have 2000 hours and never finished career mode. I don't really do contacts. I have never been to Moho, Ike or Dres. I have yet to do a grand tour. Or visit certain anomaly sites (Vallhenge or the Bop Kraken come to mind). I am still struggling trying to build an SSTO able to carry a full 82t S3 tank to orbit. With a cargo bay made out of one huge fairing. Please don't take my post as me knocking your decision to quit KSP. I understand and I have felt the same in the past. I can't remember what inspired me to continue... maybe it was reading The Martian. Maybe it was my deep desire to one day really fly into space (unlikely, but I still dream about it). I don't know. Just wanted to share my thoughts on this and wish you best of luck. Hope you stay in the forums though

I have a question regarding Tekto. I got a lander with dV of 3500 m/s or something. I found a dV map claiming Tekto needs 2600 m/s of dV to escape from. Thing is: I can't get even close to escaping from that deadly green monster of a moon. Landed the dV rating says 2953 m/s at about 500m ASL and I got a TWR of 5.6 thanks to two aerospikes. What am I doing wrong? Did I consult the wrong dV map? Do I have to fly a very specific ascent profile? Help! EDIT: Never mind. I made it. Had to go a lot gentler on the throttle. Hammering it to 100% all the way didn cut it

Ok, so this post is about two things. First of all, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love the KSP community. There were many instances where I would have quit the game were it not for some new inspirations you guys here, on reddit or on youtube gave me. Such an inspiration happened this week... I had a mission gone bad (the lander for an Outer Planets Mod exploration mission was destroyed - thankfully the pilot survived with all the science) and was planning to send another lander out there. I could have gone the easy way and just build a new transfer vehicle and send the lander to Sarnus. But then one YouTube commenter suggested I used an old rocket that was still in LKO. It was called the "Joolishka" and I used it to complete my Jool-5 mission successfully. However, it was still from version 0.90 and had 21 nuke engines that - back then - used not just liquid fuel but also oxidizer and didn't require radiators. So yeah... quite the conundrum. However, I managed to upgrade the old girl with some parts and brought the new lander to my OPM mission craft. That was really an awesome experience and I wouldn't have had that if I hadn't got the idea from within the KSP community. Conclusion: It seems like you can actually use some of your old nuke ships, if they have enough docking ports to attach some radiators and additional fuel tanks Second conclusion: KSP rocks! The final 12 images in this album are relevant to what I have written here. Video of the retrofitting of the 0.90 vehicle.

Two things: First, I am in the middle of my Outer Planets mission: Second, I am working on a really weird crazy ship, the "Tristar Titanic":
-
The most annoying thing: No stock weather system (clouds!) and constant game crashes with standard sized craft (>500 parts)
-
I put together my collection of the "Ozymandias" deep space exploration vehicles. Seven have failed, one will go to the Outer Planets to explore them. Here are the vehicles as still pictures http://imgur.com/a/Fe6hs Here are the vehicles as moving pictures

I am doing an Outer Planets Exploration mission until 1.1 is there. Hopefully I get it done until then
-
Didn't exactly do it "today", but I built a ship called the "Over 9000!" after reaching more than 9000 subscribers on YouTube And of course it has more than 9000m/s of dV

WIP - Environmental Visual Enhancements Development
ShadowZone replied to rbray89's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Has anyone already got this working with the Outer Planet Mods in a reliable fashion? Are there some configs available? I want to make an exploration there but it would not be the same without some cool atmospheric effects -
Yeah, that worries me as well... if you know me (see YT-Channel in sig) then you know that is an average part count for me That on the other hand could enable me to use two 1000 part craft at once, for instance docking them or whatnot, without too much of a performance loss. At least I hope so. One can dream
