  1. Now then, after this is made... ...We need a mod that auto-tracks all this and makes a map after you complete a mission. (not like that'd be extremely hard or anything)
  2. Heh, that's great! I was just working on something similar earlier, a smallish fuel tank with a small engine, and a solar panel and a battery (with a command seat) The idea was that it'd be all you'd need to send a kerbal back down to the ground! (It worked, somewhat, the engine exploded on impact, but the kerbal survived)
  3. Great to see this is picking up steam Point of note, what if you have a second stage on a mothership or lander? I think that not TOO many landers or mothership use them, but some certainly do. It'd be nice to see where a ship performs a staging. A Jool-5 lander could shed a stage after it lands on Tylo, for example. Currently there's no way to show that in the guide (I think, I could of easily missed it). Also, what about if there should be any distinction between low orbit and High orbit (or even a hyperbolic orbit?) I'm not sure if it'd ever make a large impact on mission planning on execution, if, say, you were in low orbit of the Mun, or High orbit, but it could make a world of difference for Jool. That could be saved for version 2.0, though
  4. This needs to happen. Can someone with more programming experience than I make this? The graphics could be changed later on, as long as someone gets the UI for checkboxes etc done. +rep for idea
  5. Nice! I look forward to seeing the craft; Jool missions are always fun
  6. Pff, who needs electricity to rebuild civilization?
  7. (sentence breaks mine, see above post) This sums my attitude towards it perfectly, career mode is a great idea (and it's probably going to be the main mode), but it's just not finished yet. At all. Heck, the entire GAME isn't finished yet. It needs more work, and i'll give it that time. For now, i'll just play sandbox until i'm happy with career mode. Sailing among the stars, like those who came before us in the sea. (note, if you search "space ship", it'll give you a spacecraft. I had to search "sea vessel in space" )
  8. It produces renewable energy! *batteries not included
  9. This does something LIKE what you're looking for, but it also tracks it individually, per kerbal: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67246-0-23-Final-Frontier-0-3-9 edit: Sadly, if you land/do something with a probe, it doesn't track it.
  10. To be clear, i'm not sure it'd be the best idea to wipe the ubuntu USB stick... WHILE ubuntu is using it? Unless you wipe it from another computer, of course. (fyi, mounting basically means "being able to use an external storage device", like a USB stick. It's a bit of a pain (speaking from personal experience, I had to do it with an Raspberry Pi and a external harddrive) The reason it might be protected is because it would contain all the stuff ubuntu needs to operate inside, so it'd have strict permissions. I don't know how you would be able to wipe it (or if windows respects linux permissions), but you'd probably have to change it's permissions with sudo (or being root)
  11. Jool missions. The prep beforehand, the moons, Tylo gravity assists... Unfortunately, I've only been there once Close second would be Duna missions.
  12. I don't do it because I don't want to get the statistics from ALL the parts in a single stage (Which could be a LOT for larger rockets), add all that up, and then patch it through the rocket equation. This could take minutes (And then i'd have to change the rocket if the numbers were inadequite). Next, do that for every stage. 6 minutes. not TOO long, but then i'd have to recalculate some stages after I change them to be more effecient. 10 minutes. This makes making rockets LONGER, almost twice as long. It's not too hard, but remembering all the values of the parts is just tedious. Sure, I could, but KER can do it for me in 2 seconds, so why bother?
  13. One solitary thing, Adrift in the open glades, Pausing to watch the passing Of the armies on the tide. ..I was just in the riddles thread.

    Riddles

...The internet? Or an old webpage. reasoning: A playful thing, Lost amidst the living spires, Waiting and wandering With neither reason nor end. Old webpages tend to stick around. Not that anyone looks at them. It is "lost" in the living spires (the internet that is active today). It is waiting, and wandering (okay, wandering might have me stumped), but it is without reason (or forseeable end) Many sorrowful things, Cast into the crying abyss, Tumbling over and down Into the darkness' blend. Many a sad story has been posted to the internet. Many vengeful things, Astride the roiling pitch, Rent asunder, cast about, Turned about and cast aside. ...okay to be fair I have no idea about this one One solitary thing, Adrift in the open glades, Pausing to watch the passing Of the armies on the tide. The open glades is the internet. the solitary thing could be a user, or the webpage. Pausing to watch the armies (all the information on the 'net). Who are you? My friend, you are one of the following: Internet, Old Webpage, or an internet user (okay, that's somewhat a stretch, but nobodies been able to figure it out so far, and I suck at riddles, but I figured i'd give it a go) For the record, IF THIS IS RIGHT, I am terrible at making riddles, so if it turns out i'm right the next person to post can have it. (As per the rules in the OP)
  15. Yup, you can push a ship with the EVA pack. A bit of an oversight, as *technically* any manned ship can refuel an EVA pack to full, regardless if the capsule has any fuel in it or not. Thus, infinite fuel, thus, infinite Delta-V. A bit tedious for large ships and large currection burns, but perfect for nudging a capsule into the atmosphere. Just ram into the ship using the EVA jetpack and it'll push it.
  16. Delta-V is, literally, "Change in velocity". If you have a ship that's going 0 m/s relative to another object, a ship with a delta-v of 500 m/s after burning all it's fuel, will be going 500 m/s relative to that other object. 4500 Delta-V is the amount required to get into Kerbin orbit, a lot is lost to the inaccurate drag model, and to Kerbin's gravity as you go up. (It applies a LOT more drag than it should). The rest is used on the circuralization burn. Delta-V is hard to figure out ingame, you can do it manually with a calculator and all that, but there's a mod that can do it for you. Kerbal engineer redux. I don't know anything about TWR (All I know is that it should be around that range, like you) or figuring delta-V out manually, i'm afraid.
  17. Nothing? My defence can be relaxing then. Oh, hi there! You're about to be destroyed by the next attack! Aint that nice.
  18. Welcome to Kerbal Space Program! (docking and landing on the Mun are two impressive feats, especially for someone new to the game!) The game certainly gets more interesting the more you learn about it and do in it. Eventually, landing on the mun may seem routine, but landing on one of the harder planets to get to, like Eeloo (pluto) or Moho (mercury) certainly wont. It's replayability (if that's a word) is certainly high, since you can do multiple missions to the Mun, or to Duna, or anywhere else really. Self-imposed limits can also make the game more interesting. (For example, not being able to use a certain engine, or docking ports), but it's generally best to stay away from those until you've really mastered the game. The game without limitations is hard enough for a new player anyways (Speaking from experience of having to send 10 ships to the Mun, many of which ended up in solar orbit, never to return) It's worth noting that the career mode isn't fully balanced yet (The next update will give new missions/contracts, which will really change things up), but it's certainly a good place to start. My moment would probably be when I finally got to Duna, that red dot growing bigger and bigger as I timewarped to it, aerobraking, and then going too shallow and having to quicksave back. (It's probably worthwhile to tell you, a thing to look into after you get fairly deep into the game is mods, since they can give new parts to play with, or just tell you the scientific stats of your rocket)
  19. If you don't already know about it, you can use alt + . (time warp button) to enter Physics Warp, like what would happen if you used time warp in the atmosphere while flying. It goes up to x4 and it let's you use your engines while warping. Since it can speed up time by 4 times, it turns that 10 minute burn to 2 and a half minutes of real time, making it a lot shorter. However, physics warp, since it speeds up time, CAN destroy the ship, so be careful with it.
  20. Eh, I hardly ever use the star ratings (if at all), since nobody seems to use them. If more people started to use them, then maybe more people would follow, then again, trying to get humans to decide on a standard is like trying to herd cats. If you're a sociologist/other expert on the subject. If you're not an expert, then it's like trying to herd cats that happen to be in various sunbeams and want nothing to do with you at that moment. see: incredibly difficult I can see it now, motivational posters encouraging people to use star ratings! "Vote that thread five stars! It needs it!" Then again, that may be overkill and not an important issue at all. I just stick to rep, most people seem to use that, and I can at least provide a message saying WHY I liked a post, as opposed to "I liked this post". But there's a problem with rep, Nobody else can see it. You can see rep for a person, but not for a post. That's where star ratings would come in, if people used them. I find that if you like something, you should say WHY you like it. Otherwise it's just saying "I liked this post", and that doesn't help at all, did you like the formatting? the humour? the 10 by 50 spreadsheet on data for kerbal impact tolerances? You can do this with rep, but not star ratings. Of course, the same logic should be applied for disliking a post. Star ratings ARE helpful for finding out the overall consensus about a thread at a glance though, but when nobody uses them, there IS no "consensus" to speak of, making the star ratings useless. It's like reading a review that has 2 reviews, one 5 star, and one 1 star. You'd see "3 stars average", but that doesn't really sum up the whole story, now does it? -my two funds and hopefully not too long. tl;dr: star ratings are useless because nobody uses them, if people used them, then they'd be incredibly useful
  21. This, to be honest, I like KerbalStuff vast amounts more than Curse. I don't know why, but I just like it's simple, non-cluttered interface more. I don't know if SQUAD got locked into some contract with Curse, though, so i'm not sure if this will happen. EVERYONE seems to post their mod links on the forums though, so I suppose that's a universal source (unless i'm wrong and I've been missing out on dozens of mods?)
  22. Congrats, the first Duna landing is always a great one, even if the landing gears don't deploy (or it can't return)! My most recent duna landing was with a small probe, on the edge of a hill. It kept falling, so I just rolled it down that hill for 12 minutes until it reached half way to the bottom, then I just gave up and got it semi-upright with SAS.
