  1. And now, episode 3!
  2. I'm starting a new career mode playthrough in 1.2 on YouTube, with the goal of making Kerbals a multiplanetary species! I'll be using a handful of mods, including Roverdude's USI Constellation. I'm hoping to post a few of these a week, so please check back on my channel!
  3. That is a super cool rover design. Feels very Mad Max. What sort of speed can you get it up to? How does it handle?
  4. According to nestor, it's because he found another job and left for the new opportunity.
  5. Porkjet left of his own accord weeks ago. Ironically, that's the LEAST dramatic thing that has happened.
  6. Soon(tm) ...But Das said on the stream that it's likely to happen during his stream, which is going on for another 7-8 hours. As always, there are no guarantees, no returns, void where prohibited.
  7. The devs who left were temporary contractors or remote personnel; Squad seems to be shifting to a more local dev team. If you check out this week's Squadcast, UomoCapra is in a room jam-packed full of the new developers working hard on 1.2 AND 1.3. So, no. Not dying.
  8. I'm trying not to be too worried about this, but who is left on the development side at this point? I was thrilled that all of those talented modders were being pulled in to work on the base game, so this is startling.
  9. Clicking "Load Ballast" and "Unload Ballast" on the PAL Counterweight parts gives me a lovely message telling me that I loaded up a bunch of rocks and dirt, but doesn't give any indication that rocks and/or dirt are in fact on board. Instead, it seems to fill and empty the ElectricCharge (100) on that part.
  10. I managed to miss the Shuttle program, despite growing up in the late 80's. KSP has essentially done what the Shuttle program didn't do - turn me into an 8-year old completely in love with everything space and consuming every space-related media available to me, right down to the SLS decorations on my 30th birthday cake. I've attended astronomy lectures, bought piles of books, keep up with every rocket launch I can, and have a hiking/camping trip during the Perseid meteor showers next month to a dark sky site with my new 130mm telescope. So... Yeah, it's been quite the transformative little game that I picked up on a fine Steam Summer Sale.
  11. This sounds amazing, I love your approach. Career just isn't as fun without the wide variety of contracts your mods facilitate, so I'm stoked to see what you come up with here!
  12. Just one crash for me since starting, with 100+ mods installed. It's not only far less crashy, it also runs a bit better, too - my garbage collector is working a little less hard even under the huge mod-load.
  13. I haven't been able to properly enjoy 1.1.2 due to instability and stuttering caused by my towering pile of mods, so I'll take a first class ticket and ride this baby to the land of memory leak patches and CTD fixes.
  14. That fix works great! There's still a spike in memory usage at first, but I can view the planet without the rapid-fire stuttering. Thanks again!
  15. I play a heavily modded install including Kopernicus and OPM, and have been playing around with MemGraph to get an idea of where my massive stuttering lag was coming from. During my testing, I noted that focusing on Sarnus or Neidon's rings in Map view caused massive memory spikes. I confirmed with an install of pure stock + Kopernicus/OPM/dependencies only. Screenshot of memory use follows: The smooth bit in the middle is the time I spent launching a rocket. Long garbage collector intervals, low memory usage. However, the red (GC initation) and green (memory usage) spikes are when I focused on Sarnus, and rotated the map. The smooth bit in between the green spikes is me halting the map rotation and not moving anything - memory usage seems to drop down to normal, until I start spinning the map again. Neidon's usage shows similar patterns, at the far right edge. Any idea what might be causing the spiking memory usage when looking at ringed planets? Here's my log file, if that's useful.
  16. So, I followed up with some testing for the last hour or two. Yanking the visual mods helped a little, but only by a small degree. I spent some time isolating the two things I thought were most at fault - OPM for the map-view stutter, and Contract Configurator (and a giant pile of contract packs) for the general stutter. Each one, even in a pure stock install, seems to cause fairly significant memory spikes. Just like Galen saw in the previous post, I saw zero spikes in a bone-stock install, so it's gotta be mod interactions. I've dropped a bunch of info on the OPM and CC devs, so I guess we'll see!
  17. I play a heavily modded install, and have been playing around with MemGraph to get an idea of where my massive stuttering lag was coming from. During my testing, I noted that I would get frequent, irregular spikes in memory usage in a Career mode game that I wasn't seeing in Sandbox. I tested this in a clean install with only Contract Configurator and a pile of contract packs, leading to the following screenshot of memory usage: The big blob on the left is me loading the game, then getting to the VAB and dropping a pod on the launch pad. From there on, I noted regular, very high spikes in memory of 30-40 MB/s every 10-20 seconds. This seems to be compounded the more contracts I have - in my fully modded install, these spikes cripple my framerate. Even in a mostly stock install, I got odd slowdowns in my framerate, and frequent stutters. Any idea what could be causing this? Here's my log file, if that's helpful.

  19. So, since my first test and screens, I noted that my performance in Career mode is just terrible. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I did install GCMonitor to check on my commit size (although my Task Manager generally says I'm using around 6-8GB of my 16GB of RAM on KSP). New screenshot included below. The relatively flat and smooth parts at the end wrapping around to the beginning are me tinkering in the VAB. The spiky red bit is loading the flight scene, and the rest of the terribleness is just trying and failing to get this thing to orbit - no map view or anything else, just regular flight. This is with one Mod-End press and a tripled padding config. I feel like my results are being messed up by some combination of mods I'm using, so I'll have to narrow that down before my reports become useful. Bonus fun: The memory spikes only happen in career mode. To the right of the blue line is a test flight in career, and to the left is the in-progress sandbox flight of the same rocket. (the thicker red band about 2 minutes in is me going from the VAB to the flight scene.)
  20. First of all, I wanted to thank you for this stutter reduction experiment. I haven't been able to play at all since 1.1.2 because of the frantic garbage collection going on. I was curious, though, if you know what's causing this behavior: Here's a link to my log file. I have a pretty hefty modlist (142 according to CKAN, and a few manually installed visual mods as well), including Kopernicus and OPM, as you can see in the screenshot above. I tripled the size of the padding in the config file, and reduced my frame limit to 60. In flight view, that increased my interval to about 72~ seconds, which is great! (The wide swaths of the second third of the log) But, when switching to map view, it dropped down to 20 seconds briefly (the end of the log and back to the left side), then went back up if I stopped touching things. The real issue issue was when I focused on another planet, the garbage collector seems to have gone into overdrive and was stuttering every few frames. Update: I think this has to do with Kopernicus, OPM, and/or the OPM visual overhaul mod, or some combination thereof. The framerate gets cranky every time I scroll in or out from a particular body, but that seems in line with my thinking as it coincides with the loading/unloading of those bodies. However, anytime I'm focused on a planet with rings, the memory usage and resultant garbage collection shoots through the roof. In any case, this seems unlikely to have anything to do with your mod, so my apologies!
  21. I've tried at a heavily modded install twice in 1.1.2, and had to quit both times due to the stuttering issue. Drives me crazy because in between stutters, it's as smooth as I've ever seen it run - I feel like I'm so close to being able to play the way I've always wanted to.
