I'm having the same issue. The Mk 2 probe core in my Nastybird exploded if I time warped anywhere past 1x in atmo. By "in atmo" I mean anywhere below 70KM altitude. And just the probe core explodes - I don't get any heat warnings on any of my other parts pre or post twain-in-two-ness. I haven't tried the physics.cfg workaround, nor have I tried simply re-launching the craft (it was launched and docked to a station in 1.02, so changes since then might be causing the issue).

I roleplay in Sandbox mode, but then again, I'm the kind of guy that will change my Skyrim player out of their armour and into more comfortable clothes whenever they're in town, even though there's very few gameplay reasons to do so.

Way to use mouse for more precise flying?
moogoob replied to NoobSaibot's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I just use an Xbox 360 gamepad for the analog stick. But as mentioned, there are mods to allow mouse flying. -
Nice to know! Will this work with (say) a size-1 decoupler and a size-2 heat shield? It would help cut down on weight on my (soon-to-be) Eve lander probe's transfer stage if I can use a smaller decoupler. (I could technically "use" the decoupler before, but it would have a ring of fairing hovering over and around it which looks astoundingly ugly.)

How Do You Deal with Inerplanetary Aerocapturing in 1.0.4?
moogoob replied to Geschosskopf's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't. I avoid it, until it's fixed in stock. Then i wouldn't mind playing around with it. -
I've only done a direct redezvous launch once, and it was by accident. They're tricky to time. Mostly I just bring a ton of fuel into orbit and launch into a smaller orbit for later intercept maneuvers. This takes longer, but is much simpler and easier on the brain. The "Big dumb rocket" solution, as it were.

Hilarious! Repped.

Pistachios are green. Kerbals are green. I WANT TO BELIEVE!!

A planet with a Triton-style retrograde moon would be a pretty cool addition to KSP. And I had no idea Venus' day was retrograde. I wonder what caused it to slow down?
-
Nice! Now the Angrybird can match the Nastybird with in-flight lighting. Just gotta get some spare time to install the update...

Nice little guy, Majorjim! How do those tiny wheels work as landing gear?
-
Does anyone ever build really, really tiny shuttles? I've been playing around with the above, and it's pretty fun. Takes one Kerbal to a space station, or Munar orbit. Not really practical, but stylish and recoverable.

Control from here does not work
moogoob replied to Nich's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
For off-centre docking ports i just dock manually using the camera in Staging mode. It's not ideal but works. -
The worst thing about watching KSP on YouTube.
moogoob replied to MacEriu's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yup! Once i yelled "Thats a lunar probe you dont need a barometer!" at a lets play as if the person could hear me. (Though it's been made useful in vacuum since then.) My biggest problem is the video just making me want to play KSP so i don't finish the video. -
How to land an airplane?
moogoob replied to arien101's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I find using flaps helps with some designs, but the biggest issues I have in landing are A) getting speed low enough while still flying and getting my approach to be properly aligned to the runway and not either falling short or missing half the runway. I'm getting better though! My advice is to just practice. Try airbrakes, and flaps, and see what works best for you. -
Do you have a screenshot that makes you laugh every time?
moogoob replied to Randazzo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes, Jeb, that's how you dismount a rover. -
All SpaceM Planes - an accidental chronicle of aviation.
moogoob replied to moogoob's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I like it. It's great for landing, launching and docking and so-so (but manageable) for flight. I couldn't map Kerbal movement so rely on the keyboard for that. Finding one binding that works for everything is tricky. Here's what I use: Left stick: pitch and yaw L/R: roll Right stick: move camera D=pad: translate up/down/left/right Left and right bumper: translate forward/back A: Throttle down B: Throttle up X: Brakes Y: SAS toggle Left stick click: Gear toggle Right stick click: IVA toggle Start: pause Select: stage -
Long story short, I wanted to use an Xbox controller for KSP. I'd set L3 (left stick clicking in) to take a screenshot, then later decided I wanted it to operate the landing gear, but forgot to remove its screenshot binding. This gallery is the result - a chronicle of my messing around in planes! It took a screenshot every time I used the controller to open or close the gears. I picked the best shots from my now swollen screenshot folder and put them in the gallery above. The funny thing is I'm considering changing it back. I never document my plane outings like my rocket ones, so having these shots is nostalgic in a funny way.

My Findings for my current launch problems
moogoob replied to The D Train's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I find Mechjeb worth it for the customizable engineering readouts alone. Of course, Kerbal Engineer does the same thing, too. As far as autopilot is concerned, while I do a fair amount manually still (docking, most landings, all rover driving) I go all the way when using probes - I try to design it so that NO manual input is allowed, only commands through Mechjeb's various autopilot modules. It's a probe, after all. It HAS to land by itself! It becomes an engineering constraint - How can I design this so that even Mechjeb won't mess things up? EDIT: Well, next to no manual input. When doing probe missions I do allow hitting the "stage" button, right-click actions and action groups. They're sometimes needed, but i try to minimize it. -
You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
moogoob replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
1. Built a chemical-rocket-propelled probe to Duna. (my first non-nuke/ion interplanetary trip!) 2. Used Vernors to steer, as Mk3 fuel tanks are heavy as heck. 3. Vernors drained all the fuel from the attached lander probe for some reason. 4. I only found out after staging the lander off the decoupler and trying to perform a deorbit burn. However! I used my transfer stage to push the probe into a deorbit scenario. I was at the very least getting a test of the various chutes I had on the probe. Turned out that one of the small main chutes (that you have at tier 0) and two of the tiny new drogues was enough to do a safe, gentle landing on Duna and I didn't need all that fuel anyways, it just made deorbit a chore not having it. -
Problem with RCS thrustsers on Space Planes
moogoob replied to spikes2020's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I don't have that problem. Maybe check your action groups before flight? The "RCS" action group should automatically add RCS nozzle toggle actions (you can also use this feature to do things like make the "lights" button only turn on certain lights etc), and maybe they aren't getting added due to a bug or something. -
Orbits to Intersect Minmus
moogoob replied to Bosun's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I do a flat intercept burn from an equatorial orbit (IE only a prograde burn, no angle to it), then do a plane change en route - I find that saves me hundreds of meters per second of delta v versus doing a plane change first then burning to intercept. An alternative it launching into Minmus' plane to begin with, but that requires planning and patience beyond what I've got. I've done many, many Minmus missions, manned and otherwise. -
I think career should start with ICBMs, like our own history of space travel. Other than that, each person's game installation is their own to do with what they feel.

My scheme is as follows: Left stick: pitch and yaw L/R: roll Right stick: move camera D=pad: translate up/down/left/right Left and right bumper: translate forward/back A: Throttle down B: Throttle up X: Brakes Y: SAS toggle Left stick click: Gear toggle Right stick click: IVA toggle Start: pause Select: stage Works very well for launches, landings and docking. Is passable for flying planes, kind of like Star Fox 64 with realistic aero. It's useless for EVA though as I haven't found a way to bind kerbal movement to an axis.

I do, but have no idea how to copy the settings. Why not just make your own? It doesn't take too long. Just remember to increase the "dead zone" on the analog sticks slightly as the default tends to drift a tad, at least with my controller. I agree that the Xbox controller is superior in many regards - it has analog inputs, and I can map both rotation and translation to the same controller.
