Guess i was wrong about heat can damage everything.
moogoob replied to TokiTech's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm going to try mounting the nuke engine to that part. -
...Pol contracts, already!?
moogoob replied to SkyRender's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Maybe they wanted to find out what those rock spires were made of. Pure ragweed pollen? How is the contract system supposed to pick them, anyways? Is it reputation? You may have gotten a surge doing mun contracts and BAM Pol? I usually get it after Duna and Eve, though. EDIT: Though one time I got explore contracts for Jool, Pol and Bop. Did them all in one go with probes in one relatively modest-sized launch. -
Even the simplest rockets flip over!
moogoob replied to giltirn's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Sorry to quote myself - went back and tested this (new career save) and yes the rigid fins make turning a real chore. Only solution is to wait until the LV-t45 and start turning right away or keep your speed low and pray. That sometimes works. Man, 1.0 is exciting. It's a crapshoot even ascending, and they didn't have to model random part failure or anything to do it. -
I like the tiny ones though! The fixed ones and steerable one are great for little jets.
-
I was wondering what that was supposed to be...

Even the simplest rockets flip over!
moogoob replied to giltirn's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The key if using un-controlled fins is to not use too many - just enough to bring drag backwards. The new atmo is thin enough to do a proper gravity turn if you start it early enough, even with static fins. -

D'oh meant drag. -
Why the across the board LFO engine ISP nerfs?
moogoob replied to panzer1b's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The NERV has one big issue now - overheating. On small craft, the whole craft gets hot enough to start blowing up attached batteries on a simple 850m/s munar burn. Need parts as heat sinks (more mass!) to compensate. So yeah, they've been nerfed pretty good. -
Can second the fragile batteries. I had a transfer stage with nuke and did a munar transfer burn. 3/4 of the way through the whole thing is glowing dull red and my four radial batteries mounted near the engine explode. Need to try that heat-sink wing strategy.

Interestingly, Jacksepticeye's (he's another popular youtuber and knows poods) first KSP video (or two) was kind of like that. Then he started watching Scott Manley, learned to orbit, made it to the moon, and even learned how to dock. So who knows? EDIT: Can't much stand poods myself though for very long. His video was somewhat painful.

Not necessarily - any fins that move the centre of mass far enough back will do. -
Does anyone know what all the engines are being named?
moogoob replied to boxley's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The LV-T30 is the "Reliant" and the 45 is the "Swivel". -
There are such a thing as periodic "moons" in real life - the Apollo 11 third stage became one at one point. They orbit a few times then go back to a heliocentric orbit until earth/dres catches up with them again.
-
We must have been watching the same stream. Scott Manley's on later today though so he should give a nice runthrough of new features EDIT: Twitch streams are like that I suppose. You end up with 5-minute stretches of descriptions or settings changing between the good parts. Keep it running in the background and make yourself a pot of coffee or something. That's what I do!

I'd vote for persistence, too. The ability to co-ordinate multiple flights of craft all over the solar system and have it all work pretty flawlessly blew my mind when I first played the game.

What's your "just one last mission" for 0.90?
moogoob replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My "final mission" is building plane after plane in sandbox, to give the old soupy atmosphere a good send off. -
Remember when hitting the troposphere meant instant 1000m/s deceleration from the soup? (I can't believe I'm saying it but I'm actually looking forward to having to use air brakes)

Which (dwarf)planet do you find most interesting?
moogoob replied to CaptRobau's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Jool, cause moons. I sometimes wish it were closer to Kerbin, but getting there's half the fun of it. -
I went to Dres once... because I was intent to send a probe to every planet (even Jool got a descender). Dres was second last. That should tell you something. The only place in the Kerbol system I find less interesting than Dres is Ike, which was the last place visited. Ike to me is "that big moon you have to avoid anytime you try to approach or leave Duna." EDIT: That I couldn't be arsed to visit it (other than an orbit or two) in my many, many Duna missions should also tell you something about my feelings toward Ike.

My guess was one day off. Cheers Squad! EDIT: And three days after my birthday, to boot. Thanks for the present!

The stock parts that you never ever ever use/hate.
moogoob replied to ron1n1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I never use the detachable pylon. The other pylon though is great for landing gear. I never use the medium-size donut-like rover wheels... what else... I actually do use a large number of repeat offenders on this thread. The giant rover wheels make for astounding (and expensive) Duna lab rovers, mobile bases and the like. Their top speed isn't astounding but that just makes them harder to flip. I love the inline cockpit for fast fighters with a big spike intake up front and Ant engines are great when you need thrust but don't care much about how strong or how much - like satellites that don't need to change their position that often. The poodle looks pretty cool and isn't really that bad - it's been occasionally useful for me, anyways. -

Those cargo bays! Nice! Like the intakes, too. -
The ROUND8 memorial thread - UPDATE: It's alive!
moogoob replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Aww I'll miss the golden donut. It was one of those parts that just made your design look "spacey".
