  2. I have been trying to figure out a way to make an orion engine, but can't think of any way to make the pulsed thrust work. The rest you could do with a throttle based animation. Maybe make a generator that used electricity to very slowly made a resource, call it PulseUnit or something, have the capability to only store 1 unit in the engine, and have the engine burn the entire unit each time it fires? Not really sure how well that would work out.
  3. That is a cool idea! Now if I just had something to base a model off of. You are correct in that it would be somewhat game breaking though. The only real balancing factor I can see is if the engine and fuel were fairly massive.
  4. try leaving a sort of mother ship in orbit with the FFRs have you lander re-orbit and dock. I t may be a little more feasable

  6. actually i was considering altering the xenon: accelerant ratio from 22:.4 to 22:1. I'll give this a shot and post a download link here to test if you'd like. The Isp of both engines is insanely high the way they are, so i dunno about raising them much.

  9. Perhaps I will make up an "afterburner" version as well that will use LiquidFuel as well to provide more thrust, but, obviously ther are the weight and size penalties that go along with it. maybe even xenon or monopropellant

  11. The edge of the boxes can not be inside of the model, they have to be on the surface or even slightly away from it. Here is a brief tutorial: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Adding_Airlocks_and_Ladders_to_Parts Basically your Kerbal will spawn in the inside of the back wall of the bounding box and hold onto the ladder at that point.
  12. More importantly i can;t really think of a good way to model it in KSP. Also, can anyone confirm that you can not use both throttle and heat emissives on a single part in KSP? I can get the throttle glows around the reactors and the magnetic field to change, but when I do the heat emissives no longer work. I seems like there is only one sort of parent animation in unity, with the others linked to it, but I have no idea how to use them then
  13. Does anyone know if it is possible to have 2 different animation for different emissives on one game object? For example on controlled by heat and the other controlled by throttle?

  16. Oddly enough there is a FFR version that does use a liquid fuel as a type of afterburner, sort of, in like a 22:1 ratio
  17. Well, I think I need to make a very basic engine and play with the emissives. There are just too many bits to this particular one and after changing some of the textures and adding emissives and animations KSP freezes.

  19. The fun thing is that the engines are actually less efficient Isp wise than the real engines are projected to be. With the second version of the engines they think they can get upwards of 1,000,000 Isp. My real concern is: Are they fun? Hence considering changing up the Isp and thrust. As far as the glass, I am not a talented enough modder to make a visible magnetically focused area that varies with thrust, so, semi-transparent permanently lit glass.
  20. Introducing the SM Fission Fragment Rocket! It has poor thrust, it is massive, it can not be refueled after launch, no addition fuel tanks are possible, you have to provide it with a source of electricity and it generates a truly frightening amount of waste heat. Why would you possibly want it?? 500,000 Isp. Now, before all the purists get all ornery with me, go read this. If some of you people would be kind enough to try this out (make sure to use the included heat shield) and give me some feed back, I would appreciate it. I am considering lowering the Isp and increasing the thrust, probably by a factor of 2 for both if I do. Spaceport download link is embedded in the photo. Have fun.
  21. While the forums where down a put up a few new goodies. Small and large modular sky cranes with a heat shield: The SM Heavy SkyCrane. The SM SkyCrane HeatShield for use with the SM Heavy SkyCrane. The SM SkyCrane for the little rovers. None of these are probes or have any sort of command part. Both of the sky cranes have their own internal fuel supply. The large crane can be used with up to 8 engines, the small only 4. Spaceport links are embedded in the pictures. Have fun.

  23. The key seems to be to make sure the hinges and stuff are in their starting position before warping, although usually my stuff will pop back into place after warp.

I may remove a some of the ion engines as well
