  1. Night or day - a diesel electric locomotive at full warcry is a beautiful thing - both engines lit - speed hovering around 28ms
  2. stock articulation joint - stock Infernal robotics - stock KAS.. even a modified version of these squadified would be awesome
  3. KSP and Eurotruck 2 - A hard choice between the two Both use my steering wheel and pedals Pulling on the gearstick expecting to throttle down and it changes gear My Iveco Stralis having 4401 window tags Calling the depot KSC Making the choice between 5 car land train or single car land train Sometimes feels odd Lights, engine, parking brake being all the same buttons between KSC Land trains and Eurotrucks Seeing a double trailer truck at work.. Iveco stralis but thinking more of a KSP land train.. Eyeing the wheels and couplings with curiosity Thinking 30mph in eurotruck is same as 30ms in ksp and not wanting to exceed it And the all time favourate.. Shifting to reverse and reving engine down hills then wonder why the trucks protesting But you know. I wouldnt even flinch in surprise if I saw an iveco truck in KSP Or a ksp land train parked at lights in eurotruck Its all so similar
  4. Ive only played stock for a very short time, to me that part about loading assets takes longest after all parts loaded
  5. Refit 4432 for the mainline In a happy change it seems male kerbals can see over the nose from cab vuew due to height differences these days too All ready for weekends big drive!
  6. Thankyou @SpaceplaneAddict its indeed been a very hard road.. but as my previous post detailed.. and I back it up once again in saying its been totally worth it, shes just a train.. full of modded mods from myself yeah but still just a construct, I can only imagine the pain developers of plugins and standalone mods feel when their beloved creation set free into the wild suddenly stops working with version change.. this community goes through quite alot at times.. im sure its all worth it in the end though Didnt get much done today - home late from work so only 2 hours before sleep - 4432 got her final refit before getting back on the mainline - a little quirk I forgot is when editing the configuration files of certain parts, say a fuel tank to have pure LF vs LFO mix.. the craft file actually contains fuel values.. as such the loaded craft file in SPH will still show the unchanged values.. this little puzzle required a few reloads to remember.. pulling apart a wagon, replacing the old fuel tank with the new one which.. was the same thing except refreshed - now ment 4432 has pure LF fuel and runs 1600 per wagon Im thinking of increasing it an extra wagon just for the range.. Still though like their railbound cousins.. any manner of train works great on the flat level.. its when things get steep and nasty pain sets in.. so we'll have to see Repaints were in order.. and a little feature greatly useful.. a single red indicator light just below the cab door it turns red when brakes are applied.. given the amount of times ive had runaways as a slowly idling diesel electric locomotive has found its footing and eased forward with a mind of its own, despite its somewhat unconventional placement and that im sure it sticks out.. in time its likely going to prove to be a valuable addition to standard operating equiptment abord the 44 class locomotive and all manner trains Here 4432 is seen on strange kind of roads, some would say the very restrictive kind.. ensuring ones direction... nope!. dont like it one bit.. BE FREE!!!
  7. Dampeners dont work on trains..its the enemy.. That said, 4432 and her high speed sistertrain 705 never had a problem crossing one with M1 modified wheels Strangely enough what did was tank tracks Good to see its fixed in 1.29 Now to get modual manager to catch up
  8. Might relate - I run 0.25 spec engines on my diesel locomotives, I used to love when I got an " Overheated!" bar next to.an engine in the staging display after running full warcry for too long.. The engines themselves still work in current versions but the old heat generation value being unspecific in nature to 1.22 actually heats EVERYTHING in a radius around the engine.. Wheels glow red..cab explodes In the absence of any value to specify where the heat goes..thermal runaway is common Quite a few parts last time I looked engine wise..eg ants Still looked as if they used old configuration files.. Could that be similar and or a mod you have? It wouldnt even take an engine.. If somethings heating up with old config files..using time acceleration would likely be fatal
  9. Thankyou Makes the perfect class illumination light and having the fog lights yellow looks awesome
  10. Thankyou my friend its good to see you might just be able to put a train on kerbalx sometime soon..just need alternate 3d models for the now old engines..an easy task configuration files being nowhere close to stock..a bit of model aliasing for the land train M1s and itd be good to go With some luck I may be able to film tonights run..its funny how things never change, even in 2015 the great 4408 had to turn back just the same for a winch and fuel ports 4432 just needs fuel tanks converted to pure LF so not carrying around 4000 units of oxidizer.. Maybe a bit of a repaint too.. KAS fuel port should be useful but having cracked the IVA kracken, coupling up a new fuel wagon also works if sent on a rocket All will be told tonight..headed for bombo outpost, the little crater beach 80km from ksc along the coast Im hoping thats the last stop before following 4408s path to the snow capped mountain Thanks again for dropping by, means alot
  11. My God........ Thats just.. Beautiful Firstly - some music to drive by That has *NOT* changed one bit... how to put it all into words is the hard part.. so much to convey.. preserve.. still feeling the buzz, almost tearworthy revival of a land trains journey.. so much joy.. a familar comfort.. goosebumps.. Why I gave this up was only because KSP changed, I once thought it impossible to get back what was good Tonight.. it was shown to me I was wrong.. Very wrong.. and to any modder, any pilot, any driver that thinks resurrecting an old craft or part isnt worth it, lost in a sea of updates and confusion ... heres a shout out to all those who might have given up and thought it all not worth it... Take it from me, a dedicated land train driver that gained so much and lost alot when versions changed, wheels became faulty and everything fell apart... It is worth every moment... all of it.. so go back to your old mods, fire it up.. work on it.. resurrect that ship that once was the pride of your fleet and the source of joy beyond everything you can describe... its not lost.. just do it Never give up...what you gain when its finished.. you'll know just like I did tonight 4432 Seen here - Prior to her first departure onto the mainline I didnt know what to expect - after so long having a fully capable land train back on the road - all features present and nothing missing, even using the old docking port couplings having slaughtered the stock-kraken known as Autostrut What I got was nothing short of the feeling of walking into a warm heated room on the coldest night - Everything just felt.. Right MC2 Madcatz Xbox wheel infront of me, pedals under my desk serving as the transmission dead man pedal shifting the wheels into full forward drive ready for the generator to pump power into the wheels, Engine 1 was started - the starter motor running momentarily and a thick cloud of smoke rose into the air signalling that the engine was now running. the slow chug of a Detroit diesel bus engine gaining speed to idle.. Ditch lights turned on.. alternating left and right.. headlights on, marker lights on.. Brakes released.. The locomotive started to creep forward at idle...5ms... 10ms.... I hit the throttle to 3/4..high 20s.... 4432 was alive.. Runway lights streaking past, slow turning of the steering wheel mid way - the traditional departure point - 4432 and her train bounced over the hump off the runway and onto the great green mainline.. KSC now becoming scenery.. something ive not done for almost a year.. atleast not anything serious with the intention to not having KSC on the horizon... 4432s journey started.. soon she'll be the lone train in all of kerbin. the empty wasteland .. so beautiful yet so empty.. nothing and no one.... the all that there is.. 4432 vs kerbin.. its a terrifying feeling.. and I mean that with no jest what so ever.. kerbins emptyness does.. feel.. empty. not just the lack of anything.. its something I both missed and.. dislike as much as I like The first hill was reached outside of KSC - 4432s speed started to bleed off sub 15ms.. one unique feature of 4432 unlike her sister trains before her is that she has full power with only one engine, a straight torque curve configuration file.. slow spooling engines.. nothing fake or hidden.. but lighting up the second engine gives absolute power.. uncontrolable speed.. but with it torque a plenty to fight hills I advanced the throttle to full.. hearing the detriot engine slowly spool upto full warcry then lighting engine #2 as they started to syncronise and reverberate with one another,.. goosebumps were felt in all honesty.. with the locomotive now starting to gain speed on the hill, both engines working in harmony.. everything was just perfect.. the sights, the sounds.. the thick exhaust cloud as all engines were at full power. .sparks flying into the nights sky.. beauty in engineering indiscribable so much so that I only wished I had time to film it.. Once she crested the hill, engine #2 was shut down.. leaving engine #1 carrying the train forward.. its now I must also state that I stress none of this made up.. none of this is told for a story.. all this absolutely happens this way.. such is the joy of a proper functioning land train Sadly not everything was going too well.. as the journey went onto around 50km with the mountains used as a navigation waypoint now becoming massive in the cab window, it became evident I forgot RTGs for headlights, power slowly bleeding down to 650 from 1000 or so... in a few hours 4432 wil have no headlights and that simply wont do.. still.. enjoying this so much.. I pushed on both engines lit for a powerful bit of torque to accelerate from 15 to 32ms.. the music for this point in the journey had become less. inspiring to regulate speed and caution - in some strange but familar irony.. it became the theme of this very moment 4432 powered towards the mountains.. slowly a forrest started becoming visible.. with repairs needed and upgrades required.. it was decided this was the terminating point for this service up ahead it was then fate had its say as it usually does.. the mun lining up the the mountain spire, the forest growing close.. despite the darkness, beauty was evident.. the ground was akin to a rolling sea.. engine had been at idle for some time and no sign of slowing down or over speed.. engines were shut down.. silence fell and 4432 coasted a great distance into the forest first lines of trees ahead before coming to a halt to plant a flag, the 63K marker point at 63km from point of origin.. the journey for tonight was over.. it made for an awesome picture none the less.. A flag was planted to resume tomorrow While not much distance was covered.. and in tradition. most of it will be backtracked for upgrades needed before the full journey, its been a very very beautiful first drive... dense in its complex emotions and moments.. certainly everything I missed about driving land trains.. 4432 has become one with the land train lore.. her running number and stories of her anchievements and failures.. will remain with the ranks of 4408, 4016 and 4427 before her.. A fine starting chapter to a locomotive a long time coming.. In short.. as @Fengist once said "Da Choo Choo is back!" Indeed it is good friend and once again thankyou for the inspiration so long ago for all of this
  12. Wow, 2015.. its been that long since ive had a functioning 44 class locomotive and PC... well! heres to a new start.. ive spent 2 entire days real time battling 1.22 KSP, in and out of notepad, SPH and every other thing past the point of sanity the fruits of 2 days work has been 4432 - a fully capable landliner 44 class locomotive with the old diesel electric engine functioning perfectly.. so! This week - is the week.. it starts again.. for better or worse.. they'll be a 44 class plying the lands of kerbin.. ive made 4432 as close to 4408 and her sister trains as I can, nothings been enhanced unrealisticly. she still runs on hot with too much throttle.. has horns to wake all of kerbin and the time honoured detroit engines of 4016 and 4410 I sit here the night before work week starts tomorrow.. yet its not work im thinking about.. its the drive after work of these beautiful, intimidating and deadly machines.. so much lore has been made.. even down to a personal level of chai tea being the official drivers drink of the 44 class locomotive on the elcano challenge. levels of room lighting, insense sticks burning that have to be sandalwood to comply with the original attempts.. pure atmosphere, memories .. ones of loss and success.. I greatly look forward to it so, tomorrow it starts Overland - Signing onto the footplate of 4432 with a long road ahead As tradition would have it, todays struggles including the above hill test with both engines roaring.. wheels slipping and spinning.. the success and failures that have become a signature of driving these engines. was all to this tune.. an accidental playlist progression brought me to it at the right time.. enjoy
  13. Pulled the old 0.25 detroit engine out of google drive - it still works in 1.22 I know sam hall's built a new upgraded version but this is what im used too and suprisingly running on an old 0.25 configuration file including sounds/smoke making slow progress but progress still in ballencing 4432's transmission.. the soothing bass of the engine even at idle is a comforting thing making the task easier shes earnt her running number - around 1 year apart between locos the comparison was required 4432 is born
  14. as a full time driver - sadly if it was just that little crack i'd be happy as all kerbinkind.. with each version we have got more and more cracks.. to the point that now currently they span across kerbin in repeated diamond shapes mostly where terrain changed elevation Back in 0.90 you could only see them with scattermod turned on at the right time of day.. these days.. they're everywhere and visible as day.. its become more and more evident recently and im sure theres a bug tracker about it its extremely disheartening too. .as they arnt just graphic errors but actual terrain gaps.. I tend to blow the air horns as I cross one in a train.. adds a little fun.. but the reality of it is.. its not nice.. theres nothing nice about this at all they span all of kerbin now terrain used to be smooth rolling hills with some extremes .. part of the optimisation things got a little.. jagged.. I think this makes it more apparent Thanks for making the thread, its a known issue but someone has to push for it to be seen Trees also have a shadow problem these days its fixed in 1.29.. but with so many mods broken its not going to be a good change
  15. Actually felt FEAR for the first time due to a kraken... so im in the M1 configuration files wheels wise, editing, chopping and changing things to try and get a suitable land train wheel similar to the one I had pre 1.1 im having some success, the happiest thing is finding angular drag on a part STILL helps wheels track straight on a train (reduces fishtailing) but I wasnt happy with this.. I added a minus value to slip value I loaded up yet unnumbered 4432 her design is mostly of 4429 but the retro air intakes give a nod to the legendary 4408 anyway shes destined for the mainline eventually .... although shes followed tradition of the KTP to the letter The train was running on RTGs, accelerating to 30ms nothing was shaking loose at all. a pleasing result.. no fishtailing no sliding.. OLDSKOOL!! YEAH! her nose plate was left on the runway.. somehow.. im yet to understand how or why but it sat there spinning like a coin then... it happened... a truss strut stretched across the screen, the camera shook.... and 4432 seemingly decided to do the elcano challenge from the air, refusing to relive the fate of her sister trains on the green unforgiving ground.. oddly responsive to RCS sanders and SAS.. yet gravity cheats wernt on at all.. she found a kraken anti gravity drive I FELT....FEAR?! in a way that the unknown has never scared me before, an uncomfortable unease.. I didnt like what was happening but still encapsulated in the old elcano challenge mindset, I slowly started to think that the engine herself was rather willing it and I grew annoyed.. although perfectly understanding that if the locomotive herself was even the slightest but clued upto the terrible fate of her sistertrains.. well.. flying away would be a viable option 4432 doesnt know the true meaning of "fight or flight" isnt exactly what it says on the tin Like any respected galaxy railways train driver, I applied the brake.. in the anime it works perfectly KSP isnt that anime... 4432 exploded in vapors as each part exploded and her cab. still clinging onto a headlight hit 1000s of MS.. she was having none of this braking business! soo.. yeah that happened.. I didnt like it.. but I understood why she did it
  16. Wooo more trains lovely Explode you will But enjoy it greatly you also will
  17. My originals still going from last time awaiting new trains But I might give this a go with a little crew tram while im waiting At 14ms though itll take months but damn I miss it Its so relaxing after work, Havent been outside the loopline mountaun run with one yet though EDIT - Change of mind sorry, but thanks for the inspiration ive spent the last 2 days in and out of SPH, in note pad and google drive digging up old notes and mods Im happy to say Locomotive 4432 has been born and shes had a shakedown cruise ready for the mainline fully diesel electric once again... I'll dig up my old Elcano challenge thread and dust it off.. best of luck to everyone here especially any fellow train drivers its a rewarding, disheartening soulcrushing awesome happy amazing thing to drive a train on kerbin in such a challenge.. You have my respect and admiration
  18. Need any train scenes on kerbin? Scene with a KSC crew train for example?
  19. After telling stories of 4429 and digging up screenshots that show the last of her class in all glory.. I dug deep into mods, other mods and found new/old ways of doing old things ALL HAIL KSPWHEEL AND INFERNAL ROBOTS!! putting *anything* infernal robotics between wagons slaughters the autostrut nicely KSP wheel I presume stops the silliness although I'm seeing little improvement.. does it work on stock wheels? dunno.. anyway its working! a little slow.. I need my old custom wheels back with 500 torque and a diesel electric slow spooling turbine to provide the power required to turn the wheels without ripping the train in half.. but! progress is being made.. and tales may once again be told about the beautiful 44 class KTP locomotive and stablemate (shhh no its not a backwards 44 class!) the 40 class AUTOSTRUT BE GONE FROM THOU COUPLINGS! a piece of infernal robotics is to autostrut, what salt is to snails
  20. Kerbins a big planet.. But its not just that, the elcano challenge I took on honestly changed my life for the better..such a simple thing as taking on a challenge, it became its own story, grew its own life.. Gave purpose and reason to the trains admittedly id experimented with them for months before.. It was for the elcano I plugged in my steering wheel.. Fine tuned a locomotive and set off into the inky blackness of the night As KSP changed for the worse, some would say worst.. Wheels became less capable, needlessly complex and still not as good as they once were.. Heat bugs caused locomotives to glow and explode, engines once redlined in operation up steep hills redlined in thermal runaway at idle Terrain in the recent versions became strangely sharp and unfriendly, terrain now shows visible cracks..with wheels not 100% still.. Trying to recreate a functioning diesel electric transmission and the 100s of reloads it takes until synergy in resources is achieved (never and an exact calculation) .. Has become soulcrushingly difficult Operating engine throttle locked to high torque hungry traction motors. Giving a realistic power curve without drag or overun is hard enough and quite impossible while juggling wheels of a train confused by the multiple joints of a train in current KSP.. Quite simply for me its a bloody mess.. Its stopped my elcano challenge when a 40 class loco detonated while loading and parts broke kerbins atmosphere at light speeds when a new version dropped So why do I keep going? Thats the easy bit Mods such as KSP wheel revitalise wheels once again.. Other mods override the nasty trail of destruction so called "updates" caused Infernal robotics and flexable rover parts kill off the evil most undesirable invisible scourge known also as autostrut New ways are found.. Where squad has faltered and tripped up, mod makers and community core people weather the storm and bring KSP back to KSP While diesel electric trains and thier beautiful detriot engines, EMD engines and the relaxing whine of 12 traction motors remain a distant dream Theyve been replaced by local electric trams puttering around KSC RTG powered trains deliver fuel and ore from place to place and a new is old technology the trijet train becomes a high speed unit New couplings are found..steering drawbar has become the standard vs the old sliding wagons.. Less focus on diesels has my ideas of a steam loco mod swirling in my head again.. In this intermission until we get back to whats good ive learnt much.. Experienced failure and spawned ideas Terrain cracks might give rise to a proper massive kerbalised sno-train landtrain Out of the fire stronger resolve will come I stay because theres no other game of this scale that.does what I want And I stay because trains in KSP while changed, remain a beautiful unexpected thing thats brought me wonderful things
  21. Ive lost half a fuel tanker wagon down a terrain crack before, a train was parked on a gap in the terrain on save..when it loaded half stayed under It is a very big drop though most things popped on hitting the water Can hyperedit be set to minus values? I admit though im envisioning more of a kas winch pulling something under clipping through the terrain But maybe im drifting a bit far off topic? I recall the global ocean was one reason for bad optimisation in the early days
  22. 216km from KSC A record I intend to break soon when 1.29 picks up and I start work on a custom control panel
  23. ALL of it.. Really One thing the terrain crack bugs proven to me..its all water.. Fall below the surface anywhere and you go for a swim
