  1. Thank you, like you and Slugy I let it run off the end of the runway, getting as much speed as I can down low, pitch about 10', it naturally pitches up very slowly over time so at about 4700m its at about 12 or 13', I shallowed the Pitch to about 7' this got it into the power band, I let it just naturally fly from about 5000m to 11k. By now it's pushing 1000m/s and I shallow it again to 7' as the thrust has reached max and I want to go as fast as possible. From there I let it go by itself, top speed around 1348m/s on air at about 22-23k, pitch has increased to about 20', taking your hint, switch to closed and wait for apoapsis, instead of pitching up further. This attempt was just shy of orbit by a couple of hundred m/s at 39.5% PF. I'm sure a better pilot could do better. I am adding toroidal tanks in the bay to top up the LF to try and achieve orbit at this fraction, which may be replaced by a 100 soon. Then I am going to up the fraction again. Craft
  2. That is awesome. If you want to flip the decoupler, use the a or d key then attach it to the end of a rapier, attach your cargo, detach and then you should be able to attach it to the front of the cargo bay. My latest effort (which has not quite obtained orbit yet) has been adjusting down from 50% Payload Fraction, now sadly i am already under your fraction, but I am still hopeful of beating Slugy's yet for second place. She is very light, 88t at start for 37.4t of cargo, i am balancing LF and O at the moment, plenty of performance, she rips through the power barrier without much more than a slight dip in AOA at about 7000m.
  3. If you go straight up, you come straight down, that's suborbital and lethal, in real life too.
  4. Yep, been in tech support for 20 years, people lie, "no I never dunked the computer in the Atlantic and recovered it six months later, it just happened on it's own".
  5. My Payload Fraction challenge entry from last night (which is no record breaker) is at about 16.5t per Rapier.
  6. It isn't stable for some people there is no overall bug. My macbook 2011 runs it perfectly and I can't even remember if I have had a crash to desktop, i run 10.10.3, even with mods (not visual ones or big parts packs). You may see an FPS increase because of using Directx 9 with Windows which seems faster than OpenGL
  7. I noticed it as well, earlier, no one cared but it was in a fairing
  8. OK here is my SSTO Spaceplane entry, bug or not, the Commite'. It was designed using every piece of advice I could find on the forums from Slashy's Post to small landing gear, and it looks like it. I had a small malfunction in orbit. I still had 198 fuel and plenty of oxidizer but had turned my torque off (some other advice), and run out of mono-propellent. My periapsis was 69,900m, I could have circularized to bring it above 70km but instead stupidly reverted thinking something was wrong before realising about the torque. Still I will include the craft file, I am sure you can verify it works. 15' from takeoff, 10' at 10km once over 600m/s start pulling up slowly, use action group 1 to switch to closed cycle when the thrust tails off, point to 40' and hold for 71km apoapsis. SMA Prototype A - Commite' 66.36t on the pad 17.1t of Cargo A payload Fraction of 25.79% not enough to displace anyone, but it's my first go Craft File Edit: Moved Craft File
  9. You might need to redownload a fresh version, just to make sure you have no remnants, it probably won't fix it but good to know it's completely stock.
  10. You mean something like pick up Derwent from Minmus base, refuel and take him to relieve Bill at Duna base, bring Bill home safely. I can see how that would be appealing for empire builders.
  11. I have not had these issues, though I run the osx game at minimum. Maybe it is related to what gpu the apple has. My Intel while not very powerful chugs along fine with no issues. Latest OSX.
  12. Heat seems to flow everywhere, through docking ports, decouplers etc. Heat moves from hot to cold. Some things cannot survive exposure to much heat. There seems to be issues where things that don't have a way to sink heat, like being attached to a tank or radiator can overheat. For me it is large SAS wheels. They heat up very fast if the are not attached to a sink.
  13. Pedant! Yeah, but we had 1.03 for so little time it felt wrong referring to it.
  14. I was getting about 12FPS, I posted in another thread about it. 40-50fps with a twin turbo plane, 12 with this monster. Core i5, GTX570, Ubuntu 15.04. I think the FPS has actually been better since 1.0, but worse than .90. Thats how it feels but this monster lagged terribly in .90 as well.
  15. A single Rapier and some very small wings was enough to SSTO in 1.02-3, have not tried in 1.04 but I expect it to work. This is my Jool GT Lander, and overly complex Kerbal deposit infrastructure. - - - Updated - - - Yes, I know about Take Command, now
  16. Did not know about that, oh well still happy, I imagine Steam might be a touch easier, select game and stream.
  17. I discovered Non Linux 64bit users have another option now to to play the game at 64bit on a non-linux machine (note does require second computer). Steam streaming for KSP finally works. I was playing 64bit yesterday with all the glorious EVE mods on my 2011 macbook at good frame rates. Not sure when it started working, I try every now and again, but this is the first day it has ever worked for me.
  18. I guess what has happened is the needle has swung back towards fun but with more realistic consequences.
  19. Built myself a Cargo SSTO, then took a Rover and put her somewhere on Kerbin, some guy is in it. Jebs dead in a mountaineering accident, Valentina is stuck in an old Eve Mission craft in orbit that is being left there as a monument. Decided I had better get Bill and Bob back to base to go return Valentina. She's a pretty plane, first shot is a prior version, changed mainsail to Rapiers, added some struts and stuff.
  20. I seem to have 0.90 craft coming back to life, some even better than before. As a test for something else I launched a 0.90 465 part 1336.1t Eve Mission craft yesterday (it used Procedural Fairings previously) that I updated with stock parts. To my surprise it made orbit, it had never done that before, even in 0.90. I have been testing a few others and they seem to mostly work too. Only the most un-aerodynamic craft seem hobbled. It's a somewhat pleasant surprise and I am liking it a lot.
  21. Linux has to work around sometimes deliberate efforts and more often complete disregard from manufacturers and Microsoft. Microsoft pushed for secureboot and to have the option turned on by default. Are you trying to do this on a laptop? If it's a whizzing laptop and not a Lenovo or Macbook you are probably gonna have a rough time with any distribution. It works best on a straight Intel chipset motherboard with discrete Nvidia or Intel Graphics. Everething else is going to give you hassles to a greater or lesser extent. it's not Linuxes fault, it's just a small percentage of users on the desktop and manufacturers do not always take it seriously. - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - Try looking up your laptop model and see if someone has done a howto Linux - - - Updated - - - Now all we need is someone else to suggest arch
  22. I think your both right, yes it was an experiment that was possibly flawed. Yes they listened to users requests. The contradiction comes from who the users were. Essentially alpha testers. The game was in alpha. Only someone who completely ignored that fact would think they had a right to complain about a broken early release alpha. This is a problem with all early release games. At least squad was listening at that point unlike many developers.
  23. You are better off forcing fxaa anyway, quicker, dirtier but not noticeably might as well claw back some frames
