[Index] Modifications for KerbalSpaceProgram
Capt'n Skunky replied to cbroughton's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Last Active 7-30-2011. We may have to de-sticky this? The Kerbal Space Repository has basically replaced it anyway. If someone is so inclined, you can view the OPs profile and send him an email to see what's up. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky -
If you land in the water, you sit on top of it like it was blue ground with a water texture. You can even roll around on it. I had a rocket blow up and leave one of those 3m four nozzle thrusters in the water and it looked like it was just sitting on the ground, everything was above the water line. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

It's because the game adds an underscore and instance number when writing craft files, 'sasmodule' becomes 'sasmodule_1' and 'sasmodule_2' if you have two in your craft. When loading, it assumes everything after the underscore is the instance number. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky
-
Doug, that issue with the Estes parachutes was the dreaded underscore error. Check the configs to see if there are underscores in the name attribute. I think the author fixed that. If not, you can fix yourself. This means any existing craft you have using it will fail to load. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

The Kerbal Cup Challenge
Capt'n Skunky replied to GeneKerman's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Holy long ass post Batman! Herra, would you mind wrapping those photos in spoiler tags please? Also, for those that are accidentally hitting space and blowing your last stage off, you can prevent that with the Stage Lock (ALT-L). The stage light will turn purple to let you know you're locked. That's what I was saying, look at how GME handles backups. I realize it doesn't pull from an online source and is more for managing local copies of mods. The best thing would be something like GME that pulls from the repository. Now that's something I'd give a try. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky
-
You should check out how GME does it. I've never had an issue installing or uninstalling a mod, regardless of what's changed. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

I just used texture packs as an example. Any mod that overwrites an existing part, be it a texture, a model, or a config file edit, will not be backed up. I'm not trying to dis your program Vic, just pointing out a pitfall. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky
-
I will ban the next user that posts! Arrr! Capt'n Skunky Note: I didn't say that in my moderator voice so, in fact, no one will get banned. Damned rules!
-
One other downside is that it does not back up files it might overwrite. So if a texture pack installs just texture files over existing parts, you will need to reinstall said parts if you remove the texture pack and this program will just delete everything. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

You can download the part from Kerbal Space Repository.

Modding public service announcement #1: Underscores
Capt'n Skunky replied to NovaSilisko's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
That's not quite what's happening. You are correct that the problem arises in the saving of craft files, but it's because it appends the instance number of the part to the name after an underscore. So if you have two 'sasmodule' parts in your craft, they each get saved as 'sasmodule_1' and 'sasmodule_2'. The game assumes everything after the first underscore is the instance number. This is why a simple appending of 'sasmodule_mycustompart' reverts to the original part when reloaded because the game reads it as simply 'sasmodule'. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky -
I think attachments went to the same place our uploaded avatars went. Deep Space. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

Re-Paints of good models.
Capt'n Skunky replied to FishEagle's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
Good enough. I didn't mean to come off like a dick or anything, it was just that it really didn't seem like you put much effort into making these and were just trying to ride on someone else's work. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky -
The game currently has no way to put a space station in orbit. At best we can try getting a satellite in orbit, but it's still a manned mission. The game is still very early in development but something like this will be possible in the future. You can find the current list of planned features here:http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/index.php?title=Planned_features Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

We already ran this joke into the ground a few weeks ago. k;P Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

Welcome to the KSP Forums! Arrr matey, hop aboard the SS Black Pearl wit' ye Capt'n and you be doin' just fine. Try out me Pirate Pack for the best lookin', plunder plunderin' ships around! Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

k:o Wha wha wha WHAT? Seriously, you are hereby commanded to report to the Sci-Fi Induction Center to hand in your Geek card and get placed in a remedial sci-fi program. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky
-
Wow. we are getting close to the flying pyramids from Stargate! Also, you can move a ship in the VAB to be off center and it will also be off center on the pad. Once you know which direction moves it away from the tower, you can get quite a bit of extra clearance but too far and you risk falling off the side. Arrr! Capt'n Skunky

Re-Paints of good models.
Capt'n Skunky replied to FishEagle's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
Several things here. First, this was the wrong forum to post in. Projects and Releases have their own forum. Second, all you did was paint bucket a bright orange onto the textures and not a very good job at that. Are you trying to learn how to texture? Lastly, do you have permission from the original authors to reused their work, specifically the Rock Bird by Alejandro A Eelman? That last one is a real kicker, people really don't like their work used without their permission and can get you into trouble here. As it stands, I'm not using my Moderator voice as I don't yet see the need to pull rank, but I would like to know what you are trying to accomplish here. Skunky
