  1. Arrgghhh....never got a screenshot of Harry's rocket but I will say, after a little advice, he launched one that touched 300km straight up.....no manoeuvre nodes needed here Gotta pack laptop away as having Sunday dinner soon but the boy understands how to "fly a rocket"...we had many fails and many spins yet on each build adaptation he told me " this feels better"....also got him now reducing thrust at about 450...500ms on his own so getting there
  2. Even though it's not happened yet, within 2 hours of this post my friend is bringing her 3 children here and 1 of them, Harry, aged 9, wants me to let him build a space rocket He likes Minecraft and Lego and recently he's taken an interest in my telescope....he's seen through it the Moon, Pleiades, Orion Nebula, Mars and Venus a few mornings ago (looks so bright and in cresent shape from UK)...... I'm really looking forward to seeing him build....build what ya like!! If it fails to fly I know he will ask "why" it didn't fly.......then I can start teaching the basics and hope we have a new player in the making..... If all goes well I'll post a picture of his first build later on today
  3. I was going to suggest a dV map and Transfer Window Planner but no need!! It's been said. Never fails to amaze me how this community never gets tired of repeating/reposting links or answers to new and old players alike... It's a refreshing feeling....
  4. So, I've nearly built my first "boat" type cradle to get the rover to the mainland and while it looks completely ridiculous its doing the job (ill post a piccy soon) Surprisingly being on the water is great fun and, when I have some time I may try to build something to travel down the long river system on Gael I spotted from orbit..... This game never stops giving.....
  5. @4x4cheesecake well it does work in 1.6.....don't know what I did wrong before but thankyou for your help....btw...I love it!!
  6. I would guess KSP 1.3.1 A very solid version with more mods than you can shake a stick at.
  7. @4x4cheesecake thankyou. I will try again. One thing though, just incase it's me doing something wrong.....do I just download and extract to the GameData folder as per most mods or is there more to do (such as the Unity thing the OP wrote which i dont understand)?
  8. I have tried this in 1.6 and nothing changed so I'm presuming it's not compatible. Has anyone got it working in 1.6 though?
  9. Hmmmm...I've never attempted any form of travel on water....I'm basically a rocket only guy. That's actually a very good idea as the mainland is not far away from the launch pad in GPP so that could be a viable option. Cheers for giving me more to build and test....this game never gets old.....always a new problem to overcome.....love it
  10. I'm glad you did. I appreciate your reply. I, obviously like you, see no care in a Kerbal except I prefer to make sure these green things get to where I'd like them. Must ask them what they want...
  11. On this play I'm using a different planet pack..search for GPP.... The launch pad is on an island so have to "fly" to the mainland.... If we don't die on landing, myself and my Kerbals will drive, walk or whatever else we can do to get there.... .....I've 2 things built and going through a vigours testing phase.....
  12. @HvP thanks for your reply. As for landing without a runway I can't land WITH one! Maybe I will try and build a VTOL however I've tried to pilot one before and found it......challenging
  13. Can't say I've noticed any blurryness on any parts. Are you sure your settings havnt changed? Graphic card drivers up to date?
  14. Hi all..... So, currently I'm playing sandbox and im in the VAB on Gael, the GPP side of KSP. I will build a rover-esq thingy that I want to take to an icy mountain not far west of the launch pad. Getting there is not an issue....I do feel a plane is the obvious choice but I struggle with landing planes....(I've tried so many times to land on the runway and failed 95% of the time) My question is what's the best way to get my rover there? My gut instinct tells me to fly a cargo plane there, decouple the rover and land via parachutes.... My gut also tells me that that's "an easy way out" but it would work.... Thoughts anyone? I will read/take advice from the community.....
  15. Nice! Will definitely be getting this....great find
  16. Are you in an early career game? If so you have to upgrade the tracking station and mission control buildings to have the icons. You can check everything's working by starting a new sandbox save....your icons will all be there
  17. This....totally...(sorry for double post...I messed up!!)
  18. Sandbox for me, always has been. I've tried career so many times and always end up feeling I'm up against a losing battle..... I tried a new career last week in 1.6 and the contract was to test a decoupler whilst on the launch pad at Kerbin...... After at least 20 goes using different variations of the test it just would not complete...even though every staging condition was met.... At least with sandbox I can go "right....Kerbal to Duna and let's go mining"...
  19. Well, whatever the reason it's works perfectly.....
  20. As the title says I'm using the RSS mod for KSP 1.4.5 on my 1.6 version and it works perfectly however I've found it to run soooo much better on 1.6 than 1.4.5.... Is this just down to 1.6 being more "optimized"?
  21. Why would you? I thought the whole purpose of playing a game was to go with the tools you've got. I mod KSP sometimes however I have/do play stock....I just can't see why something should be changed?...seems to me like it's a bit cheaty if I'm honest... I know I'll get hung for saying cheaty yet when I play Asseto Corsa should I increase my top speed before I hit the limiter via a settings file? I also know that changing a part for some players is essential to how they play, and cheaty then doesn't apply. Please don't kill me....just my thoughts
  22. @TimKerbin I havnt played much with 1.6 yet I have read that they are still a little "delicate" shall we say. Also, girders could be your landing legs until they are "fixed"..... Check a parts impact tolerance and use them for now. You can test this on the launch pad by making a very small test rocket....get to a low height (2km maybe) then go thru a landing procedure to see what's best on landing. Frustrating I agree yet also could make for a new breed of designs Also, take a look at this thread, may help you more than I can.
  23. Amen to that....I was going to post exactly the same thing. Achieving orbit for the first time was an amazing feeling but docking..... I wasn't very good at reading the navball back then and I remember trying to eyeball the docking port. Good job I had plenty of RCS as it took about 25 minutes of translating up, down, sideways, forward and back until I eventually made it. I could almost hear the blood rushing in my ears and felt beads of sweat on my forehead.. An amazing experience
  24. Every time! Why not? If KSP was a "single release game" I'd stick with until I out-played it. With most updates there's always something new to play with....makes doing what we've done before a little different, sometimes better...keeps it "fresh-er"....Not many things In real life can do that.....nor do we have a chance to...
  25. I actually feel a little embarrassed that I didn't try something I "know" to try but I panicked! Relieved I'm not the one! Off topic from my original post, I have noticed that, now 1.6 is running properly, my laptops heat has dramatically dropped. Where I use my mouse it could blow so hot my thumb nail (I'm left handed and vent is on left side) would get so hot it hurt...now, after 3 hours of playing it's only just warm.......
