There is an old bug with the docking ports where sometimes the state of the port is saved incorrectly. It can be fixed by editing the persistence file. There is a mod which makes editing the persistence file vastly easier: Hope this helps. Happy landings!

When this question was first asked by Tex many of the default keybindings were not the same as they are now. The KSP Wiki keybinding page should have an up to date list of the current keyboard controls. Locking this thread to avoid further confusion.

Interesting! I haven't tried a MJ docking in years. I always found MJ hugely wasteful of monoprop. Perhaps that's changed in newer versions. Happy landings!
