Dawn, sometimes dusk... but yeah, especially with EVE and PlanetShine, it's more cinematic. Oh, and it's the first thing that comes after night, so if I rollout a rocket in KCT during the middle of the night, I just wait until sunrise to launch. My Kerbals need some sleep, right?

[1.1] RemoteTech v1.6.10 [2016-04-12]
Nitrous Oxide replied to Peppie23's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
My LKO networks is as cheap as I can make it, often ~6 part satellites: a probe core, a battery, 2 solar panels and 2 antennas. I'm also using KCT, so if I build my rockets properly, I can get around 60-70% of my launch costs back (and make the next one a bit quicker to build). Of course, this all depends on where your sliders are at and also what other mods you're using. Something like Tantares is insanely useful because you can get an orbital engine with built-in RCS. -
Yeah, it's super awkward... I flipped out about that last page, kinda sorta (not exactly, but the dimming could use a rework, eh). Yeah, I've noticed that too. Most of the time it's just for a second or two until it refreshes, try changing the camera angle a bit maybe? Also, no matter what I've tried, my vessel names never show up when I hover the flares. Yes, everything is set properly. It worked once... so I know it can happen... but either the area I have to hover over is so tiny that I never hit it... or it's not working for me... I see the flares fine, just no names when for my my satellites like when I hover over the planet flares...

WIP - Environmental Visual Enhancements Development
Nitrous Oxide replied to rbray89's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
+1 If it wasn't for people like rbray pushing this game to the limits, I probably would have moved on to playing something else a long time ago. Certain mods accomplish things that Squad themselves say isn't possible. EVE is one of the best examples. -
[0.25/0.90] Better Atmospheres [V5 - June 14th, 2014]
Nitrous Oxide replied to Thesonicgalaxy's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Also worth noting, you can install only the mods you want... EVE does the clouds and atmospheric effects, Texture Replacer handles the new skybox, Custom Asteroids add asteroids to Jool, Kittopia adds rings to Jool, and DOE is recommended but not required. So it's possible for example to use only the new skybox & sun flare and not the clouds, rings or asteroids in case you are low on RAM. Also, yeah. It's probably a good idea to use the latest RSS dll. That's what I was doing. -
[1.1] RemoteTech v1.6.10 [2016-04-12]
Nitrous Oxide replied to Peppie23's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hmm, that's odd... I'm not too familiar with RSS, but maybe there's an issue with the antenna range? Sounds to me like the antenna isn't being registered by RT... maybe there's conflicting MM patches? And I can safely say RT works fine without RSS... so don't go saying this mod is broken. -
[1.1] RemoteTech v1.6.10 [2016-04-12]
Nitrous Oxide replied to Peppie23's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Yeah, looks like you're slightly under the horizon... this is why I set up my LKO network ASAP... satellites have better LOS than the ground stations, better coverage angles and more chances your connection will hit something. Here's a rudimentary diagram explaining the problem and why you can't connect to the ground station... I've had that happen to me a couple times... if your satellite is good though, just wait until it comes back around the orbit (assuming you made it) and it'll eventually link up and you'll be able to send whatever commands you still need to send. Also, you can use the flight computer to queue commands before you lose link, and your sat will execute them even if it doesn't have link at the maneuver node or whatnot. -
[1.1] RemoteTech v1.6.10 [2016-04-12]
Nitrous Oxide replied to Peppie23's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Was the antenna on? Were you above the ground station's horizon? I've never had issues, but then again, my first network is always a series of 6 relays in LKO that cover the equator and always have a reliable connection to the KSC for other sats to piggyback from. Oh boy is that fun to set up... -
Aye, I know the difference, but most people don't. But whatever, it's such a non-issue because everyone knows you probably mean the one right now anyways. And this isn't exactly the 90th minor release, so it's a little silly... most developers at least have a scheme... Squad's is pulled out of a magical hat... should have gone with 0.99 imo.

Show off your awesome KSP pictures!
Nitrous Oxide replied to NuclearWarfare's topic in KSP Fan Works
High-res textures? Check. Playable frame rate? Check. Enough mods but not so many that my game breaks every 10 minutes? Check. Time to start a real career mode, guess it bodes well if that's a shot from my very first ground test... I never used to take screenshots obsessively in games, but KSP is just too nice, especially with all these visual mods. -
Squad set themselves up for that, 0.90 and 0.9 are the same mathematically. It makes more sense to refer to the old version as 0.09 now that we have a 0.90.

Aye, and the new SAS makes it especially painful. Thankfully there's mods to make the start fun again (thanks RoverDude). Also, why would I launch a satellite with a pilot? Doesn't that defeat the whole point of an unmanned craft? Also, career has a 30 part restriction, so that makes satellites a no go until my space program is well established considering it takes more parts to add a pilot and return capabilities that I might as well just do the whole damn mission manned... wat. Apparently humans went into space first to check if we could launch Sputnik...

Sherman Kerman and Billy-Bobrim Kerman take the cake for me. Two of the best recruits my space program could ever ask for.
-
Flags, eh? I've got a few... I always make flat versions too... And a custom flag set... And I wasn't sure about the stars, so I made another set... Feel free to use these. EDIT: more here --> http://n2odesigns.imgur.com/

Amateur, by the end of the first week, my Kerbals have a space program that would make NASA jealous... Time is meaningless in KSP... there's little reason to actually plan something like a Grand Tour because you can just sim to whatever launch window works best... Career mode desperately needs something like KCT, time is still as irrelevant as in sandbox.

KSP - game or simulator?
Nitrous Oxide replied to ArgenTum's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This begs the question, is something like Sim City a game or a simulation? Does it even matter? -
There's also airbags in Lack's SXT. --> http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79542

Attack of the Pink Textures
Nitrous Oxide replied to Grim187's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Aye, copy & pasted straight from the Unity manual and everything. This is my output_log from last play session, and my Steam currently reads '-force-d3d11-no-singlethreaded -popupwindow'. Initialize engine version: 4.5.5f1 (7684ad0c5a44) GfxDevice: creating device client; threaded=1 Direct3D: Version: Direct3D 9.0c [aticfx32.dll 8.17.10.1119] Renderer: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Vendor: Intel VRAM: 2085 MB (via DXGI) Caps: Shader=30 DepthRT=1 NativeDepth=1 NativeShadow=1 DF16=1 INTZ=1 RAWZ=0 NULL=1 RESZ=1 SlowINTZ=0 Heh... I still use it because it seems to work better... -
I am saddened by this but, I'm getting bored.
Nitrous Oxide replied to LostElement's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Closing on 550 hours, I'm bored. Game feels like a chore now with zero progress since 0.90 and trying to figure out a working combo of mods while still keeping full-res textures... I've done the altitude record missions like 50 times now... as you can see, I've become quite creative in my approach... but sadly it feels like I've done everything there is to do in the game. Landing on any body is mostly exactly the same, so I haven't even set out to the better half of them... because it just seems like more time for pretty much the same thing... I'd be more inclined to play if I could take epic screenshots or videos or something... but KSP seems to be the only Unity game that gives me <30 FPS... go figure. All these mods look so cool and so interesting, but really only being able to install a small handful at a time is a real bummer. -
[0.25] 6S Service Compartment Tubes - "Design smooth!"
Nitrous Oxide replied to nothke's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Protip: You don't need KAS for any mods with KAS compatibility (like this, BoxSat, CactEye, etc.). These are perfect aerodynamic shields otherwise, great for actually recovering science experiments when using FAR+DRE. -
Attack of the Pink Textures
Nitrous Oxide replied to Grim187's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I'm skeptical this even works as intended... I've noticed from my logs that when using -no-singlethreaded, it doesn't even use DX11, but goes back to DX9...
