Why does my ramp explode on Minmus?
Hcube replied to ghostbuzzer7's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I dont want to sound like this one usual repetitive boring ***hole but the second natural satellite of Kerbin is called minmus. (And not minimus). Anyway, good luck with your ramp ! It sure does look cool, i wonder how it will perform -
This is really awesome ! Yeah, at the moment Europa is the new hype planet for life research. NASA is studying a Europa mission with the SLS, and ESA is planning missions there too after the Rosetta success. The problem about Europa though is that its ocean is well under the surface : There is no way you can drill deep enough to get to the actual liquid water when the delta-V needed restricts the mass of the probes you can send there to some hundred kgs...

Time to make SRB "better"?
Hcube replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
yeah but then make it a bit longer otherwise it would be a huge nerf to it... and maybe making it blue-grey instead of yellow would be cool too. Yellow makes it look not serious enough on a rocket -
Time to make SRB "better"?
Hcube replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I totally agree with this thrust curve system ! Id love to have it stock... Since the SRBs are a bit trashed in KSP, its really needed ! (Also IRL they have gimbals, an not in ksp) I do not agree with you since i believe that we (the ksp players) too often see the new players as ignorant newbies incapable of figuring out anything by themselves... Just add something to the VAB tutorial saying that it is more advanced ! People that buy ksp obviously are somehow into space, science and discoveries, they can explore the game And it DOES add a lot to the gameplay, especially with the new aerodynamics model !! -
The Completely Agreed Addition Thread
Hcube replied to quasarrgames's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I do not want volcanoes and geysers either. Sounds time consuming for squad, full of bugs and pretty useless. Id like - cockpit lights - airbrakes -hinges and motors -more smoke when burning SRBs : even a scripted smoke would be cool, just a big cloud that floats around the pad for like a minute after the rocket takes off -option to have an umbilical tower on the launchpad -
I have no complaints with the game (but a lot of suggestions and some constructive criticism) and i disapprove the idea of a complaint thread.

Nooooo i'm missing it right now :/ I hope that the video will be available later, after the live coverage ! Thanks for the info anyway !

Just saying : Im myself not sure if i want to risk my vision on a Pringles crisps box and tape... I dont know how much protection glasses cost, but i think that as long as it is not overly-crazy-insane expensive its a expense worth the price : in fact, i will probably not live until 2081 to see the next one
-
Wait... A 93 second burn only changed its velocity by 1.14 m/s ??? Given the power of the average hydrazine thruster and the mass of New Horizons, something must be wrong here... o.O Did you rather mean 114m/s ? That would be a more plausible Delta-V for a final course correction to pluto... Please tell me if im wrong ! (EDIT: typo.)

Luckily the class i will have to skip in order to watch the eclipse is history and not physics (studying Kepler laws right now, as a ksp player i would never miss that )
-
Hey i didnt see any posts about it so i'm sharing this here since i guess everyone is into space stuff here There will be a solar eclipse visible in north-western europe the 20th of March this year ! If anyone here lives in UK, France or Netherlands it will be the last one you will be able to see until 2081 ! The eclipse will be maximal in Iceland... It will be at around 10:10am in France, paris time Looking forward to this, gotta get a pair of special glasses for this ! (Obviously dont use any regular sunglasses if you enjoy having a retina)

Hey, I wish we had a 1.25 parachute the size of a Mk16-XL but that would allow you to put other parts such as decouplers or docking ports on top of it ! Right now if you use a Launch Escape System you have to use radial-mounted parachutes (and i don't like those). I would like to detach the LES and then fire the parachute underneath ! Same goes with docking ports : you have to choose between radial parachutes or radial docking ports ! How about both ? From top to bottom you would have a docking port, a decoupler, the chute, and your capsule. Once you are done with docking, jettison the docking port for re-entry and expose the parachute ! What do you think about that ?

No pictures, but i landed my very first rover on the Mun this afternoon using a ridiculously overkill rocket. WAAAY easier than i thought, i was always afraid of trying something too hard; but it was quite easy and satisfying afterall ! Next step is Duna ! (i'll take some pics for this one)

What is Kerbal Space Program in your perspective?
Hcube replied to Columbia's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Didn't vote nor read the comments yet- WHY is there no "all of the above" button ? EDIT : ended up choosing the exploration option. It is the one that best contains all of the others ! -
I have a cheap computer with a somewhat good processor, the worst graphics card you can dream of, and 8GB or RAM(wich is nice). In over 220 hours of stock ksp i have never crashed and my frames are alright (around 30 with regular ships) and i have literally got 1 bug in those 220 hours. Not 2, not 500, just 1. I feel like 0.90.0 is VERY stable on my omputer, and i hope that 1.0 will be the same (or better ?)
-
I remapped the yaw/roll keys AND i use a french keyboard, so i end up using A and E to do my gravity turn I tend to land in a different way : i just burn retrograde at very low thrust from high up and if i luck out my velocity reaches 0 when i touch the ground its like a very slow, long, and careful suicide burn. I dock with the up/down right/left and +\- keys in staging mode because the docking UI is pointless (will get an upgrade in 1.0 btw) and i find HJIKLN to be impractical. No docking assists btw, i eyeball everything !

List of suggestions for updates
Hcube replied to Columbia's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I don't agree with a new size for parts since it would add a lot of parts to the game that aren't really needed: i mean, a fuel tank is a fuel tank, if squad is going to add more parts i want those to be stuff like the new drill, resource stuff, fairings... Not a new size that will have only 2 tanks, 1 engine and 1 SRB... I also don't think a water revamp is in order now. Water certainly sucks, but it does allow you to splash harder than on land without crashing, it is fine for capsule landings ! And above all, KSP is not a sailing game, its about rockets and space ! Seriously, who cares about the water ? (Its just that damn blue thing empty boosters fall into, isnt it ? ) I LOVE the camera idea ! i would love my satellites to be somehow useful, a polar orbit satellite with a camera would certainly be great for taking pictures of surface, and maybe show where the different biomes are ? (I still struggle to find the badlands ) About the mk3 parts, dont worry : the new aero system will make wings way more effective an realistic : every part will have WAY more lift (lift will be based on v^2 and not v) so you wont need to go to 250m/s in order to get off the runway i like the new mk3 parts right now, and the new landing gear will make them even better -
Not sure if you are aware of this but observe closely and you'll see that the gears do not move in any way, and so they shouldn't be reducing preformance much... Gtx 980 and lagging ? Really ? I have a crappy 65$ card and the games runs "smoothly" between 30 and 40 fps ( good enough for me) as long as the size of my ships is "within the current bounds of sanity" (tech tree ref btw )

Resource connectors while landed
Hcube replied to DoToH's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
But using a claw will be very hard if you want to refuel a ship at a big ground base ! What is needed is an extensible thing that will allow players to transfer fuel without direct contact but through some kind of tubing that will let you transfer fuel if the 2 crafts are, say 5-10m away from each other Unless they make the claw telescopic or extensible i doubt it will be used for that -
About the turbojet engine : "Designed for high atmospheric performance...[...] C7 engineers assure us all those leaks stop once it gets up there" I also like the one in space near Kerbin : "The sky seems to be mosly below us" Apart from that the part descriptions in the VAB are all very funny
-
What i enjoy doing the most is certainly docking without any assists/mods ! It's pretty hard but you feel so great when the camera swings and your ships are docked

Part upgrades in tech tree
Hcube replied to Frozen_Heart's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Oh yeah i was talking about pure math and volume, but you are completely right about the walls and the temperatures, i'm just thinking that it would feel weird to see the same tank getting more fuel what would be cool is getting a description in the science tree like the ones we have now, saying like "new pressure performances and fuel conditionments allow our engineers to put more fuel in smaller tanks" Because bigger is always better ! If all the parts get upgraded then i totally approve this idea maybe another tech tree dedicated to the upgrades, parallel to the original ? -
Part upgrades in tech tree
Hcube replied to Frozen_Heart's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Wouldn't it be super-complicated ? Squad is trying to balance all the parts out now, and it seems rather complicated enough. Also the game is about green men, but also about physics, and physics tell you that there is no way you can put more fuel in a tank without increasing its size But the real thing is that once you would have unlocked all the parts to max upgrade, all the others would become useless ! Why use an obsolete engine when you have its upgraded version ? Unless you are talking about a system that transforms the part into a new better one when tou upgrade it thus you having only 1 at the time Still once you would have upgraded everything the game would feel like easy mode -
Ahem, i think a memorial for armstrong is normal since he is the one guy that first set foot on the Moon. Whatever you might say about engineers doing all the job (wich is true), he is the one that actually walked there. Gagarin probably deserves one, but this is for another thread : P On the other hand, a memorial for an actor from star trek ? Sorey if i offend the fans, but this guy was not a oscar-level actor and had a role in a sci-fi series. Not the same level as armstrong if you ask me. Then, if you start putting memorials for anyone, you end up having a 30m bronze statue of, say, tom cruise on minmus ! (I hate tom cruise's acting skills, just so you know ) Lets keep the memorial stuff for the people that really did something, alright ?
