Hi All My nutty Chiefengineer Bi... errr... well... ah yes,... ...we have sienced the sience of massive SSTO overpowering in Stock 1.0.2 Thats all. The Craft Name is BLOCK fOUR b and it can lift 185 tons to LKO 100x100 (or more...) Below is a downloadlink for the craftfile: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8u28fasyoyot9ma/BLOCK%20fOUR%20b.craft?dl=0 Maybe you need a fast PC, there are some engines taped to it. And get Kerbal Joint reinforcement, really FAQs: - does it fly? - sure - can it land? - sure, depends on you - why does my computer burn up? - i really do not know - it looks dangerous, is it? - sure - can i put my Kerbals in careerplay into it? - sure - how many? - enough - can i put a fairing to the payloadmounting? - sure, as you wish - it flys like a pregnant swan, is this intended? - sure - you forgot to put some A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S. to it, thats not good... - sure

I assembled my Jool Explorer, after lots of testing and many flights to put this thing together during the last days.

post all your unconventional idea ! ( ONLY stock part )
Mikki replied to matthias123's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yes. here is a pic that explains more. This plane has the max load of 82.6tons LFO in MK3 tanks in the fairings. The wings are swept up, the engines can be toggled asymetric verticaly to enable stable flight in any situation, hence the CoM and CoT differ while operation. I can show precise Pics if anybody is interested... the payload mount is also much variable, easy to do in SPH depending the size of desired modules/ tanks/ whatever. Depending on the size of the Load some 3 Part or 5 Part fairing is mandatory, RCS downwards gently while opening, before circularisation burn so they dont end up as orbiting trash (obsolete, thanks Captain Sierra) The upper is the same plane body but with crewcapsule in front, 4 engines fewer, fewer LFO tank in front, depleted fairingmount detached and heatshield behind with airbrakes, after landing. -

Mikki replied to matthias123's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Bring up oversize Modules in fairings with a large SSTO. Here its a Jool Tug, 4 LV-Ns attached to a MK3 liquidfueltank. A large size heatshield is in front of the tug, and a decoupler/ clamp for another LFO tug to pull the whole assembly (about 60m long finally) around in Kerbin SOI until the journey begins. -
Eve for Valentine (Val's journey to purple planet)
Mikki replied to Mesklin's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
MESKLIN you have become a god . Glory Koviet engineering success, congratulations! Very impressive and motivating me to think again about a kerbaled evelanding, i never tried seriously. Have a good Time -
...disable SAS during reentry and executing an unplanned EVA is truly bada... ... err... ...for sience!

R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hm, its matter of purpose... i do not want to go laythe or so with an ssto as it was possible days ago, i never did also. To me is simply putting up gear to LKO the reason, i dont dump any equipment any more, or at least not so much... (fairings, decouplers etc...). I fact i try to dump nothing around kerbin, while going further visiting other bodys, dumping equipment somewhere looks sometimes mandatory... Its kind of a thinking challenge about reasonable ressourceuse..? i really dont know how much or few others reuse, or if they dont mind the cost (done work...) of some hundred kilos Kerbalbugs to go to space each time. Fuel is cheap somehow, dumped stuff is gone... forever, and with it the value once invested. its hard enough to have a crashlanding and loose the half of the funds for a large ssto. Would be interesting to know exactly how people play this game... -
R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hi there herbal SP I am verry interested reading your experience, in the moment i use a 2 R.A.P.I.E.R. per one Turbo Ramjet system, more or less proportionaly. You are right, the soundbarriers are somehow a horseshoethrowinglike thing, i also tested endlessly heavy planes to put some gear up. The reason for my engineless mainfuselage design is that i started putting up heavy and wide equipment, with a orbitalstation as dockingtarget in 100x100 LKO. I like to meet up with the station immediatly several minutes after takeoff, or be at least some two handfull klicks away to unload/ dock/ eventually bring down used modules for refunds... The thing with nukes i think is that is not so exact to rendezvous in at least one orbit... but as you say i have to try this system and follow your advice how to start with, thanks alot for your response! I like alot the old wingparts and simply dont get warm with the new ones, hm... they look good and all, but give not much choice to assemble. My priority is allways that the craft is somehow dockable, "careerproof", good landable , safe and has some room for changes in purpose, thats also the reason why some are bit overpowered, i use to detach engines when putting up depleted Modules, and i prefer to do fueling mission separatly with designated "idiotproof" (me is the idiot ...) fuelsstos witch behave i exactly know. Docking mediumsized clampotrons with some 200 or more not allways well balanced tons of Kerbal engineeringwonders is not fun, takes sometimes near half an hour!! Have a good time -
Hi Shifter20 I build anything in career, and i need a interplanetary LV-N Tug... up in space. Now i can do some big wide modules and assemble them in my orbitalstation. I launched alot with rockets but its really to expensive, all the parts that go lost... anything counts. This is a smaller "BABY SPACEGUPPY ", it has a mk2 crewcabin, two dockingports, and fewer engines than the other one. On his back the LV-N Tug with two disposable Mk3 liquid fuel tanks attached, empty lifted... I am going to Jool soon with two ships and two crews. But i still dont have the thermoelectric power supply... Soon i am ready to go. Gonna make some landers and sience things with the other team, when one team gets in trouble, the other can maybe help. "Hey Doodock, what do you think, should Valentina captain the other team to Jool?" "Hm Jeb... i dont know... maybe Enemy should assist her.. he has the most experience in deep space exploration... they make the sience there. You and me... we gonna make the hard stuff up there as allways. I hope we find a tough girl that wants to join us... the journey is gonna be boring without the gals... outch the ladder is hot!"

EXPERIMENTAL "SPACEGUPPY" My wildest dreams come true with the new parts from KSP release 1.x While looking for saving funds in careermode my chiefengineer build this: A MK2 drone core guids this crazy work of Bill Kerman, famous Kerbalnautveteran... Despite all rumours that he has went completly nuts after a mysteryous incident with a crazy cow while mowing the lawn to the north of the KSC runway... it seems to fly and do its job. Jebediah and all the other KSC crewmembers clapped with their hands as they witnessed the orbit insertion and release of a testpayload... Valentina Kerman was hugging Bill and commentet: "Hey Bill, you are maybe nuts, but nuts are my prefered snack, and so are you my prefered engineer!"...

Hi GusTurbo To your question, i had to enhance the "SPACEGUPPY" a bit . And the most interesting thing is this: The Spaceplane was 360 tons at take off, it ran out of tarmac, but if had lowered the reargear it would have easy come off the ground. Speed was 230m/s... Payload was 82,23 tons, after release i had about 1200 oxidizer and more than 2500 liquid fuel left, Orbit was 120x115. I added a short MK3 LFO to the front and taped another four R.A.P.I.E.R.s to the wingbase in line with other engines. To keep the center of thrust inline with the changing CoM i did some actiongroup engine toggling, very easy, but before i knew how to do... I accidently burned off the oxidizer at descend to lower atmosphere... I entered to early (as most of the time) over the desert, but i surfed the plane over at 20000m at 2000m/s to 1600m/s, without any engines i arrived at the KSP kontinent. Did not use the airbrakes, just gently sailing down. This is to me surly the biggest load with this spaceplane, i have tried four or five different things to put up the Mk3 Size Tanks. Its real crazy, and it flys real good. Just have to pump all the remaining fuel to the verry front before descending. The only way to save some... funds. Have a good time and greetings ahh okay... another interesting pic for some

I just threw a random Labmodule from my Subassemblies into the fairing... i had many situations where the MK3 Bay simply was not wide enough. And launching everything with Rockets is too expensive in careermode, really. Its good to put up some Stationrigparts or maybe Modules for an interplanetary journey up... i mean contracts. Its even possible to land a bulky outdated Module, just put a heatshield on its front somehow and get the scrap down for refunds, and if it burns up... we have to try - or never know. I play career. I dont like wasting stuff... Launchers are good but you wont get rich with it. Ask NASA or Roscosmos what the real problem is. Money... errr funds.
-
Hi GusTurbo The engines and the overall lift can pull two Jumbotanks up... way more than 100x100km, just lenghten the body a bit. The mounting of the fairing is easely changable with the conic and slantet tanks. I dont want to show more pics, its a huge spoil i think. If anybody tries to rebuild it... its not so simple as it seems. Its Stockparts, Kerbal joint reinforcement is obviously mandatory. No clipping, minor offset of the wingparts. I have researched the propulsion intensivly ... Its real crazy.

Hi All My Chiefengineer build this: Now you ask yourself whats inside?? Now you maybe ask yourself, does it Fly stable in any Situation? Yes. Do i need Launchers anymore?

R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I am gonna make further experiments with this Plane, its a careerproof (safe...) Aircraftdesign, good allroundspecs, good Highspeedhandling, compact size in dimensions, good lowspeedhandling, safely landable... Trying to build up speed in upper atmosphere is not so easy as some may think of. Above 20000m is still a lot of drag, maybe i go an strap some LV-Ns... I am sure with RAPIERs only its possible to decrease the amount of Engines about minus two, maybe four. The RAPIER is probably the best overall. The lifting surface is quite limited on this plane... and its overall drag is huge. Good Thing to compare engine combos. -
R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hi, i know why i taped the Twinboar... perfect for this Task. 2000Kn Thrust, nothing else matters here. The Mainsail has only 1500kn. Time is here more important than Isp or efficiency... -
A new way to build modular bases
Mikki replied to Callmedave's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hey CallmeDave Thats the first that i see in the Forum, you are a Genious! I think i have to go to Space again with Launchers... You gave me just what i was looking for all the time since we can mine in Stock Game... Have some REP! Forklifter... Why did i not had the idea by myself? I allways picked up, but lifting up is maybe way better! IMAGINE TWO KORKLIFTER WORKING TOGETHER, BIGGER LOADS AND SAFER... OMG !!! -
I really dont know but i depends also where exactly you install your Reaction Wheel Modules... To me it seems like putting them precise in CoM, or when two of them in same distance to it gives a significant advantage. Putting them aside the main Root of the craft in pairs and opposite to each other is for me obviously a very bad idea. I tried alot of things, planes are prone to bad Reaction Wheel placement, Launchers not so much i think. Carreer Pilots with 3-4 stars and more are for me the best solution. Very accurate manouvering, no overshooting, no unnecessary rotating. I sometimes have an Issue with lateral drift to the Right in Level Flight in Athmosphere, switching off and on again solves the Thing allways.

R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The "R.A.P.I.E.R.s only" Test had nearly the same ascendprofile like the Turbo Ramjet/ Twinboar setting. Very interessting to me too! At 60000m Apoapsis during burn i installed "Prograde" in every Test btw... Greetings - - - Updated - - - I think there is no chance, the Time is way to short for the Nukes, and Time is rare firing up 300tons ... I simply see no way how to do that... -
R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hi KerikBalm I taped a R.A.P.I.E.R.s only together, same weight, same Payload, approximatly same Lift, and it had success. You know i know youre right, thats why i call it comparison Test ... My Engineer redux readout has some weird problems with the many tiny engines... bad thing. The Ramjet/ Twinboar had the most Fuel left. Its still my favour in this Thread. Greetings -
R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hi there This is simply a test to show that Engines need a design that fit their specifications... To me its clear that the 12ton of Twinboar engines are "dead" Weight for the Modeswitchers...(But nice 4000kn Thrust, Time is sometimes the key...) While ascending i had to fire the Twinboars for about 200dv at 12500m, because the Rapiers simply do not thrust as like the Ramjets... And still... flighttime is fuel consumption Time, i had to decide to get the Plane out of the Soup as fast as possible... This Deltarocket system is also based on Ramjets from scratch... i does not mean other engines are useless. (The Plane is simply too heavy for Rapiers, as you say, KerikBalm, Twinboar off, Raps in, gonna try...) I am gonna strap the aerospike engines now...and see what happens . -
R.A.P.I.E.R. versus Turboramjet? Surprise, surprise
Mikki replied to Mikki's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes, a third test will be done with... the crazy RAPIERSPIKE hang on guys DONE: added RAPIERSPIKE -
This is a Airbreathe, allround Performance comparison Test Same Aircraft (Spaceplane, its native idea is ramjetdesign) Target Orbit is 80x80 LKO. 45tons Payload aboard. Pics taken at Liftoff, 7500m, 15000m, 25000m, 50000m, 70000m, Orbit insertion, Payload undock (If Possible...). The MK3 SSTO has two Twinboars to achieve final orbital velocity (Exception made for KerikBalm...) All Flights at optimised Ascend flown, as good as possible (At least 2 Runs to Check...). Post your Comments, what do you think? Turbo Ramjet http://imgur.com/a/r4emd R.A.P.I.E.R. http://imgur.com/a/pMTeR RAPIERSPIKE (Invention of Communitymember) http://imgur.com/a/itdnc R.A.P.I.E.R.s only (TwinBoar off, Raps in ) http://imgur.com/a/eHB0y R.A.P.I.E.R.s only (Two engines off, now 24) http://imgur.com/a/92Otx R.A.P.I.E.Rs and Turboramjets... (no Questions left for me...) http://imgur.com/a/BDgak I was wondering how one could not even achieve Orbit, the other has some 750oxidizer left... And the other one creates crazy phantomkrakenforces... Finally one other had successfull Payload undock... my first Rapieronly SSTO!!!!) Aerospike test obsolete... LFO only... Rapiers seem good so far, but still not much dV left... ... yeah after the last Test i must say... WOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW...lots of dV left

RAPIER vs Turbojet and Rocket engines?
Mikki replied to SpaceToad's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hi SpaceToad Me i dont like the Rapiers, they lack of thrust in 10000- 15000m somehow. Try these shapes: Make some delta configs with stable CoM, and the CoL very close to it behind: Problem in KSP is the limitation of the Enginesize of the airbreathers... I tried anything with Rapiers but i had no success... Turbojets are best in my Opinion still . Greetings -
I am Pushing my newest V.A.L.K.Y.R.I.E generation SSTO`s to show off: The upper is V.A.L.K.Y.R.I.E 6424 EES (Emergency escape system)(Startweight 315tons) Two Twinboars and 20 Turboramjets do the Job here, 50+tons to 100x100 LKO, enhanced RCS The lower is V.A.L.K.Y.R.I.E 6464 EES (Startweight 375tons, lifts off runway) Two Twinboars and errr... 28 Turboramjets kick this Spaceplane to 150x150 LKO, with 75+tons Payload, and there is lots of dv left, have to make a real benchmarktest with it, crazy. Yes ahhh... tape some Twinboars to your SSTO, and all is gonna go... well .
