  1. 0.o Huh. I don't think I've ever seen body-mounted airbrakes on an airliner before. Even in an airsim. That's roughly how the F16 airbrakes work, though. Air brakes or speedbrakes of a F16 J-512....(13) by John de Grooth, on Flickr
  2. Huh. genuinely did not see that coming, actually. Then again, there weren't many very clear belly shots.
  3. In general, with the new atmospheric model, you're goofing already, simply because of making the assumption that terminal velocity still remains the same regardless of shape, volume and weight. You're better off mapping atmospheric density, which at least remains somewhat the same, assuming conditions (temperature) remain the same. About Kerbin and Duna: That's actually about right. Duna's thinner atmosphere is offset by it's lower gravity. (and lower temperature) TL,DR: The atmospheric model doesn't work that way any more.
  4. I'm not sure what you did wrong, but it's supposed to look like this: [i mg]http://i.imgur.com/0hdICiq.png[/img] Nice little base, by the way. How did you land it? On a more relevant note, here, have some experimentation in 1.02 by me. Also, some asteroid hauling. Some stronger claws would be really, really nice. T.T
  5. Wait, your lill kerbals only have the MK4 cockpit for the whole journey!? D:
  6. We'll rant and we'll roar, like true Kerbal astronauts, We'll rant and we'll roar across the great void. I see what you did there. Also, bah, SOI swaggering. seriously don't get why they've not squashed that bug yet. ALso, for Bill's benefit: surely they have sugary drinks that could be fermented?
  7. I don't know what you did, but you did it wrong. How it should look: [img ur]pcTsO[/imgur]
  8. Good Point. I dislike the new imgur embed they got nowadays, but a link to the albums would be nice for people just looking to read the whole story without all the comments.
  9. But how are you going to get it to not burrow you into that minty-flavoured ground? 0.o I would've expected extreme EVA jetpacking. This, however, has the potential for more coolness.
  10. Hehe. orange tastes great to kerbals, apparently. Countdown? What's that? (Does it taste orange?) I usually just launch as soon as I'm sure it won't explode just because of the physics kicking in...
  11. Well, the new atmosphere should at least provide a much better flying experience. Decreased drag and increased lift should result in a higher flight ceiling, better handling and lower cruise thrust needed, provided you stay below the local speed of sound. The question, however, is whether this is enough to offset the decreased ISPs and thrust...
  12. Perhaps with editor extensions. Stock, not as far as I'm aware. The best solution would be to change around your 4x to 2*2x symmetry.
  13. This is quite the fun read, I must say. refreshing new format, too. As for writing or mission report, I would say if your story is mainly affected by your gameplay, I would say mission report.
  14. be aware - kerbin's surface gravity may have changed since then, throwing off your calculations exponentionally.
  15. I'm in the habit of using entirely SRB-powered first stages for lighter spacecraft up until three-seater pods. Even counting in the added cost of fins (due to lack of gimbaling) and structural parts like TVR400L quadcoupler my S1 SRB-KD25k solution is about √5000 cheaper and about as Dv-capable compared to the LFB KR1-2 version. (which is massively OP in it's own right compared to similar liquid engines, btw) Other SRBs, however, not so much. They need a considerable un-nerfing to be useful again. (Seriously. the LFB KR1-2, substracting the big orange tank it incorporates, has about 4 times the TWR of the S3 KS-25x4 and KR-2L+, it's ridiculous)
  16. That confused me a hell of a lot as well. Doesn't help that the default wide-band scanner map (the only one you get) has hideously low detail as well, meaning that visually speaking, the whole of the planet seems to have about the same percentage of ore. In the end, there's no real incentive to be picky on where you land.
  17. How much was it? If you use the ground analyser it shows the percentage of ore. I haven't seen it above 10% yet however. (Admittedly I haven't gone anywhere with it but kerbin, though) It significantly influences your ore drilling speed though. I turned a medium cargo aircraft into a flying ore driller and refinery. Haven't tried drilling asteroids for ore yet, though. If you want I can make an album depicting my ore shenanigans to share experiences.
  18. Amen, Preacher. I can't even bring myself to mess with my own spacecraft trying to get them to work again like you do. Instead i've been messing about with aircraft, playing with what's (im)possible with the new aero physics. Interesting, certainly, but not very productive for my main space program. Your experimentation with the vertical SSTOs confirms what i already suspected, though. My own designs should need minimal adaptations to work again. My only frustration is that vacuum engine ISPs have been nerfed all around. I'm seriously considering making my own mod/cfg edits to bring back vacuum ISPs back up to proper levels.
  19. OOC: (Pre-1.00 rant) Constellation mission 12: A new station is launched for FLOOYD Dynamics Research Labs on the road towards mun missions and deep space missions. Bill, Bob and Jebediah were working in the crew can of a new space station module in the VAB, giving it the last checks for launch. It would be an construction engineer's job, normally, but after somebody once went up into orbit without any snacks it's been a tradition to have at least one astronaut give it the last checks before rolling any vessels with kerbal capacity onto the pad. "Hold on." Bob was confused. "Don't get me wrong, I'm all for sending more sciencey stuff up, being an engineer and all, but who's going to man it?" "Nobody," Jeb said. "I'm not going to sit in that station doing nothing interesting for who-knows-how-long." "Then what's the point of an unmanned space station? Seems like a waste to me." Asked Bob. "A profitable waste," Bill corrected. "C7 Aerospace Division is paying us for a space station, but the contract says nothing about needing anybody aboard." "So, we're just going to let it sit there in LKO, doing nothing." Bob concluded, not quite convinced yet. "Not quite, Bob. It's going to orbit at around a thousand km, testing systems in high orbit before we're actually going to trust it with lives." "Yeah, about those lives," Jebediah interrupted. "What's with the recruiting stop, anyway? I mean, We've got tons of talented and trained candidates ready, but we don't use them." Bob actually knew the answer to that question. "Balance, Jeb. We're too awesome compared to our new hires. Management wants to introduce a new kind of kerbalnauts to provide a fresh influx of talent and skill besides just the same old recruits we've been having. Unfortunately, they're still in basic training, and there's that issue with their helmets not fitting." "Wait, you mean those girls that have been hanging round the astronaut complex lately?" "Yeap. Those are the ones." Bob nodded. "Huh. I thought those were just the orbital mechanics interns being toured around." Bill said. "It's not that I mind it, I mean space has too many squares in it as far as I'm concerned,bBut that's going to be one blue hell of a change." "Likely," Jeb agreed. "That's why the first crew of ladies will be going to Labrador station, with all the station for themselves. Three of the guys currently there will be going to this one then, and the other, more experienced ones will be brought back home, available for more advanced missions alongside of us." "So," Bill said, "We don't have to be afraid of Jeb getting distracted by ...round faces while flying just yet." Bob sighed relieved. "Yeah, Jeb's piloting is terrible enough as it is already!" "Hey, not my fault you simply can't handle those advanced manoeuvring Gs!" Countered Jeb. "Anyway, this cabinet is properly stocked with freshly preserved snacks too. As far as i'm concerned, It's good to go, guys." "Okay," Bob said, "Then lets get out before they accidentally launch with us still in it. 1000km orbit sounds like a boring place to be stuck at." Surprisingly enough launch control didn't decide to ban to ban Jeb to 1000km for botching up their precious flight plans on a regular basis, so not long after the station, newly minted 'Terok Nor', went up to high orbit in a blaze of jet exhaust.
  20. Yes. Just enter it like this: [img ur]YASSj[/imgur] without spaces, and most importantly, without the '#0' Nice little compact bird, by the way. PS. Huh? brackets don't disable bbcode. ... is up with that?
  21. Has anybody actually confirmed if it's back or not in 1.00?
  22. I'm afraid your image doesn't work, and when i C+P the image into a new page i get a 404 in what I assume is Russian.
  23. It would be nice if somebody made new mass-optimal engine charts again, so that we could SEE, objectively, if the engines are balanced against eachother, but as i understand, the new math required to account for thrust changes isn't done yet.
